You'll have access to miles of hiking trails right outside our door. Admire a sky full of stars at night, and then fall asleep with the gentle mountain breeze and the sound of the creeks outside.
Quiet and private, our neighbors are not visible or close to the house. You'll need a car- Stardust Cottage is nestled 'back in the holler'!
We may greet you at your arrival, see you off when checking out as we arrive to prepare the cottage for the next guests, or -rarely- during your stay if anything needs attention. Mostly we will leave you to enjoy the peace and privacy we love about this property. We live in Asheville and can assist you by email, phone or in person, if needed. Welcome to the Appalachian mountains!
Hi! We love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. We've lived in the Asheville area since our college years, and have two great kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and we like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.
Owner/ Property Manager purchased this house in 2002
We bought this place as our primary residence and lived here for eleven years. We loved it from the minute we saw it and still do! Big Sandymush Valley is the best preserved farming valley in the southern Appalachians. Thousands of acres of conservation lands are adjacent to the property, organic farms are abundant here.
Stardust Cottage is private and relaxing in a gorgeous natural setting.
It's modern and comfortable, with soft sheets and down comforters
You can get to Asheville for city fun, but no need to!
Had a wonderful time! Secluded and absolutely beautiful scenery. Yet we were able to make the trip into Asheville easy enough when we wanted to dine out.
This house is every bit as beautiful as the pictures! We enjoyed the quiet solitude of the location, and big porch for listening to the creek and enjoying mountain views. We visited in early spring before the trees had their leaves back, and the mountain views were lovely, but I bet it would be gorgeous in the late spring and summer when everything is green! Beds are comfortable, the house was extremely clean, we found everything we needed in the kitchen, which was stocked with basic cooking utensils. It took us a minute to sort out the heat situation, it might be helpful to put a general instruction sheet out for guests telling them how to use basic functions of the house like the heat/AC or wood stove (there's a monitor heater downstairs and a central unit for the bedrooms). The creek was a huge hit with our toddler! It might be worth noting that even though it looks like there's a trampoline in one of the pictures, there is no longer a trampoline on the property. The drive out to the property from asheville is every bit of 30 minutes and quite rustic, but not unenjoyable :) We would stay here again without hesitation!
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Stardust Cottage. The cabin was private and cozy yet near enough to Ashville. We enjoyed the views and seeing the nearby farms. The cabin had everything we could need or want to include a well stocked kitchen, wood burning stove and games and books. I would also like to comment how great it was to have baby/toddler items provided such as a high chair, pack and play and children's eating and drinkware. If you are looking for a low key and cozy getaway I highly recommend this cottage.
We had a great trip. The house was beautiful, clean and stocked with great books and games. Kama was extremely helpful with options for groceries and guiding us to the house (make sure to follow her directions, GPS won't get you there!). We are already planning a trip back in the fall.
My family and I have enjoyed this wonderful cabin on several occasions. This month we spent our Thanksgiving holiday there! It's perfect. We had everything we needed to prepare and enjoy our meal. The beautiful setting was the perfect backdrop for Thanksgiving! Kama does a wonderful job of making the cabin welcoming and warm! I hate to say too much because I'm afraid it will book up and I will miss out on booking it….but really it's my favorite place to stay when visiting Asheville!
Stardust cottage is absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to visit. The drive was a little tricky but once we found a good route not as big of a deal as we originally thought. Kama was an accommodating host and made it her goal that we were happy! Would recommend for anyone wanting to escape from the every day and might enjoy a long relax on a hammock.
Asheville is a sophisticated small city in a mountain valley in the southeastern United States. It's a very popular and well known tourist area. The city is very walkable with shops, galleries, and restaurants on every corner. Asheville is know for its foodie culture, including lots of vegetarian choices. The varied nightlife scene and many cultural activities and festivals will keep you busy if you like. The area is also known for its many artists and crafts people. Just south of downtown is the Biltmore House; the largest private residence in the USA. The house and its thousands of acres are open to the public. The Blue Ridge parkway also passes through the area. This is an incredibly scenic drive through the national forests in the area, with world class views, and many interesting stops along the way for hiking, picnicking, looking at waterfalls, or frolicking in the cool mountain streams.
Endless opportunities abound for rafting, rock climbing, and backwoods adventures if outdoors is your thing. There are two ski resorts, each about one hour from Stardust Cottage. Golf is also popular in the area. You can choose to be in the middle of the action, and then out in the middle of nowhere 15 min later!
Closer to Stardust cottage are several organic farms, including flowers and a nationally known herb farm. Potters and crafts people live tucked in their beautiful corner of Sandymush Valley.
Don't let our long backwoods private gravel drive fool you... a beautiful modern well appointed cottage awaits at the end!
