We may greet you at your arrival, see you off when checking out as we arrive to prepare the cottage for the next guests, or -rarely- during your stay if anything needs attention. Mostly we will leave you to enjoy the peace and privacy we love about this property. We live in Asheville and can assist you by email, phone or in person, if needed. Welcome to the Appalachian mountains!
Hi! We love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. We've lived in the Asheville area since our college years, and have two great kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and we like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.
Owner/ Property Manager purchased this house in 2002
We bought this place as our primary residence and lived here for eleven years. We loved it from the minute we saw it and still do! Big Sandymush Valley is the best preserved farming valley in the southern Appalachians. Thousands of acres of conservation lands are adjacent to the property, organic farms are abundant here.
Stardust Cottage is private and relaxing in a gorgeous natural setting.
It's modern and comfortable, with soft sheets and down comforters
You can get to Asheville for city fun, but no need to!
My family and I wanted to get away, and have a peaceful and relaxing few days and this house was perfect! The sounds of nature is all we heard while sitting outside. We truly enjoyed the fire pit, and the boys loved playing in the creek. The kids loved the foosball and ping pong tables, and we actually really enjoyed there not being a T.V. in the house as it meant more quality time together. The kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were comfy. It was a wonderful weekend, and my kids are already asking when we can go back! Thanks so much!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stardust cottage; it was exactly as described and the surrounding farmland really enhanced the getaway feeling. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us, we definitely plan to return.
I seriously debated cashing it in and not going home. Beautiful property, far enough away to feel secluded and relaxed, but close enough to Asheville and outdoor fun. Our dog had a blast chasing the frisbee and sitting next to the huge outdoor fire ring. The house was a comfortable size; enough room to spread out in, but cozy enough to feel like home, and the light!!!!! Gorgeous!!! Well equipped with odds and ends as well as a stocked kitchen (though the knives could use a stone). Make sure to enjoy a bubble bath with a glass of wine, and a cup of tea on the porch. This house is on my list for a second round. Cannot recommend it enough for a quiet, lovely stay with plenty to do.
This property is well off the beaten path but a true diamond in the rough. It is clean, well appointed and was a perfect mountain getaway for my wife and I. The cabin itself sits back in an elbow of a mountain so when you look up and out all you see are trees in every direction. It is pet friendly and has a spacious yard for your pets to romp around in. Whether you are enjoying the hammock in the backyard, relaxing on the porch or snoozing inside, the property is quiet and very private. While there are neighbors in the area, they are far enough away that they might as well not be there at all. Most surprising of all considering how far the property is off the beaten path, it has a DSL connection so you aren't completely cut off from the outside world while staying there.
I would and will definitely stay here again!
My wife and I and our two small children recently spent three nights at Stardust Cottage and had a fantastic time. Coming from South Florida, we were seeking a quiet, private enchanting place in the mountains to relax and give our kids a taste of a different type of outdoors and this place really did the job. The setting is beautiful, peaceful, and secluded. We loved walking the mountain road and enjoying the views and the neighboring farm lands. The house has everything one would need and we loved cooking in the kitchen and eating meals there rather than going to local area restaurants. The kids loved the basement table tennis and foosball and the assorted toys, books, and puzzles. Best of all, no television! Well, actually, the butterflies pollinating the garden may have been the best.
Asheville is a sophisticated small city in a mountain valley in the southeastern United States. It's a very popular and well known tourist area. The city is very walkable with shops, galleries, and restaurants on every corner. Asheville is know for its foodie culture, including lots of vegetarian choices. The varied nightlife scene and many cultural activities and festivals will keep you busy if you like. The area is also known for its many artists and crafts people. Just south of downtown is the Biltmore House; the largest private residence in the USA. The house and its thousands of acres are open to the public. The Blue Ridge parkway also passes through the area. This is an incredibly scenic drive through the national forests in the area, with world class views, and many interesting stops along the way for hiking, picnicking, looking at waterfalls, or frolicking in the cool mountain streams.
Endless opportunities abound for rafting, rock climbing, and backwoods adventures if outdoors is your thing. There are two ski resorts, each about one hour from Stardust Cottage. Golf is also popular in the area. You can choose to be in the middle of the action, and then out in the middle of nowhere 15 min later!
Closer to Stardust cottage are several organic farms, including flowers and a nationally known herb farm. Potters and crafts people live tucked in their beautiful corner of Sandymush Valley.
Don't let our long backwoods private gravel drive fool you... a beautiful modern well appointed cottage awaits at the end!
