About Owner/ Property Manager

Hi! We love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. We've lived in the Asheville area since our college years, and have two great kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and we like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.

Owner/ Property Manager purchased this house in 2002

Why Owner/ Property Manager chose Asheville Area

We bought this place as our primary residence and lived here for eleven years. We loved it from the minute we saw it and still do! Big Sandy Mush Valley is the best preserved farming valley in the southern Appalachians. Thousands of acres of conservation lands are adjacent to the property, organic farms are abundant here.

What makes this house unique

Stardust Cottage is private and relaxing in a gorgeous natural setting.

It's modern and comfortable, with soft sheets and down comforters

You can get to Asheville for city fun, but no need to!

Asheville is a sophisticated small city in a mountain valley in the southeastern United States. It's a very popular and well known tourist area. The city is very walkable with shops, galleries, and restaurants on every corner. Asheville is know for its foodie culture, including lots of vegetarian choices. The varied nightlife scene and many cultural activities and festivals will keep you busy if you like. The area is also known for its many artists and crafts people. Just south of downtown is the Biltmore House; the largest private residence in the USA. The house and its thousands of acres are open to the public. The Blue Ridge parkway also passes through the area. This is an incredibly scenic drive through the national forests in the area, with world class views, and many interesting stops along the way for hiking, picnicking, looking at waterfalls, or frolicking in the cool mountain streams.

Endless opportunities abound for rafting, rock climbing, and backwoods adventures if outdoors is your thing. There are two ski resorts, each about one hour from Stardust Cottage. Golf is also popular in the area. You can choose to be in the middle of the action, and then out in the middle of nowhere 15 min later!

Closer to Stardust cottage are several organic farms, including flowers and a nationally known herb farm. Potters and crafts people live tucked in their beautiful corner of Sandymush Valley.

Don't let our long backwoods private gravel drive fool you... a beautiful modern well appointed cottage awaits at the end!

Fantastic Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

Stardust Cottage was perfect for our visit to the mountains! It was clean and comfy and peaceful with plenty of space inside and out for the six of us (7 including our pup). The huge windows let in lots of light, even though it was Hurricane Irma cloudy all the days we were there! The drive was a little steep for driving up (sliding up) in the Irma downpour the first day but after that is was fine! We gathered around the table every morning for breakfast, hiked all day in Pisgah National Forest or the Smokies, then gathered around the table again for supper (grill and smoker provided). There were board games to play (we opted for a rousing game of Jenga!), as well as ping pong and fussball in the basement. Hot showers, rocking chairs, porch swing, bubbling creek in the background........OOOOOhhhhh and the STARS were AMAZING on the last night!! Even saw the Milky Way across the whole sky! Can't say enough...great place! Great experience! A serene haven of rest and connection time for our family, especially after some exhilarating hiking all day! We never did go to Asheville so I can't speak to that, but the countryside was beautiful, the neighbors friendly, and the hiking superb! I would recommend this cottage to anyone and yes, I would stay here again if I was in the area!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented quite a few properties through HomeAway and I've a;ways been happy but this was the best. It was a lovely and comfortable with everything you need! The kitchen had every tool. And the owners left great tips and brochures for the area. Very helpful. The games in the basement were great. The deck was beautiful. We had so much fun in Asheville and the mountains on North Carolina are beautiful.

I loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Ray and Kama's cottage comes more than you can expect. It looks exactly like what you see in the pictures and the space is very clean. You can also feel how the owners taking care every guest by finding First Aide Kits and bug sprays that I never saw in other cabins I stayed before. While the cottage was deep into the woods and might be difficult to find, the neighbors were very nice to gave us direction in pouring rain. The only thing you may need to consider is this house has only one bathroom.

Family Vacation with teenagers

  • 5 of 5

We had a great family vacation! The cottage is just as pictured & described. Such a quiet and peaceful setting. We enjoyed Asheville, Navitat ziplining, Zen tubing river float, & Pisgah National Forest. We were not used to driving on mountain roads but acclimated quickly.

Beautiful cottage, a little challenging to get to but an authentic mountain living experience!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a little challenging to get to but Kama provided good directions on how to get there. Would definitely recommend arriving during daylight for the first time and use a truck or SUV as the gravel roads can be tough. The cottage was well stocked, very clean and comfortable and offered fantastic views! We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the mornings and visiting the many breweries and restaurants in Ashville. We would definitely visit again!

Peaceful Stardust Cottage get-away!

  • 5 of 5

I don't know where to begin??

The minute we arrived on the property and walked into the Stardust Cottage, we wanted to extend our stay!! The setting was amazing and the light, airy cottage was adorable. Kama had all the essentials for a comfortable, relaxing stay. We really enjoyed the back deck–morning coffee listening to the creek, taking in the views and sounds of nature! The kids loved playing in the creek and going on beautiful nature hikes in the area (ask Kama for the details). It was about a 35 min drive to some of the local towns, so we did a few day trips, but mainly enjoyed the serenity of the cottage!! I would strongly recommend grocery shopping prior to your arrival (since stores aren't super close and the driving has a lot of switch-backs) and also arrive while there is still daylight (if you aren't used to mountain driving!). We would definitely stay again and already had friends wanting info on Stardust after seeing the photos of the place!!! Highly recommend!!!
