Needs improvements

  • 3 of 5

First off I want to say, we love Big Bear, but the cabin needs some improvements for what you pay to stay there. The cabin is not within walking distance to the mountain to ski as it states.. you have to drive to the parking lot and catch a shuttle. Especially if you're carrying skis or a snowboard and all your gear. This property was a small little place, they need to have is a big frying pan, they only had small ones so it made cooking any kind of bacon, meat, etc, really hard without a 12" fry pan. There are NO heaters in the rooms so they get very cold at night. When I read the reviews prior to booking, I noticed someone said that, therefore, I brought 2 portable little electric heaters for the 2 rooms. Those worked great for the nights. All the beds could definitely use new mattresses. My back was very sore (I'm 43 and don't get back pains) after the 2 nights we stayed. The master mattress slumped in the middle and was too soft. The blinds on the windows had a few missing pieces so light shines in as soon as the sun starts to come up. I hung the extra blankets they had in the cabin over the windows to help to keep rooms dark.

I understand this is a rental cabin but it could use a new couch (the couch sinks in as well, very uncomfortable) the 2 recliners are ok but they could use a good cleaning. I just think for the money you pay to stay, you'd be better off staying at another cabin for similar price closer to the village and lake itself. I wouldn't stay at this particular cabin again, but we will be back to Big Bear.

Cozy little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from our 3 night stay with cool cabins. We stayed in 'The Birt's Nest'. Our cabin was the cutest and cozyiest thing ever! It had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend! (bathrooms/kitchens were fully stocked with all the amentities). I was a little skeptical with all the bad reviews but the staff took their time to make sure we had everything we needed. It was truly a home away from home. We will definitely be back next year for our annual vacation :)
