About John

John has always had an interest in architecture and as a child traveled to Lake Huron with his cousins to enjoy the lake breezes and an ice cream cone. In 2000 he decided with his wife, to design and build his dream cottage. Completed in 2004, the cottage still retains that fresh new feel and appearance. John and Luann have operated a successful photography business and have enjoyed coming to their cottage year round. Currently, their daughter plays softball extensively through spring and early summer, which prevents them from getting to the cottage as much as they used to. This is newly listed and as their situation changes so may be the availability of renting this cottage.

Both John and Luann have an aesthetic eye for pleasing colors and furnishings. You will notice little details that may be left out of or never even thought of in other cottages along the lake.

John purchased this cottage in 2005

Why John chose Palms

When you get North of Port Sanilac, you find that the properties become much more wider and more secluded. Part of enjoying your getaway requires that you don't hear the neighbors yelling or have to listen to their choice of music. Here, you are in control of your environment. Because when you come North of Port Sanilac, and to the Eagles Nest specifically, you will find a tranquil space that will charge your batteries and put a smile on your face. And the only sound you hear will be the familiar sound of your loved ones laughing and playing together. Here, your family can focus on what is important, time spent together, rediscovering the love you have for one another and the great sense of belonging. Solidify your family bond here at the Eagles Nest.

What makes this cottage unique

4 bedrooms, 2 full baths each with secondary sink rooms. Extended dining and lounging on 1000 sq. ft. wrap around covered porch with screen. Expansive views of Lake Huron from most rooms. Serving meals is easy using the pass through window to porch counter. Find seclusion in many nooks and crannies in and outside of the cottage. There is a separate bunk house that sleeps 6 finished in knotty pine and a nautical theme. You will be isolated from road noise and civilization as you drive through a forest of pine trees to the cottage 1000' from the road. Once on the property there is only a sliver of a glimpse of other neighboring cottages. Other cottages along Lake Huron are very densely placed and you will hear partying all night long. Not here. The silence will make you think you are the only one on the lake.

Our property is properly maintained, cleaned and landscaped. The cottage is clean and maintained regularly. There are plenty of places to relax and feel the summer breeze. The architecture has been designed to be quintessential cottage. With shake siding mixed with plank, cedar columns and shutters, exposed rafter tails and authentic field stone construction, you will know you are staying in a quality first class place. It was designed to make your senses wander into a bygone era of classic resort lifestyle. There are 4 kayaks and life jackets available for use as well as popular yard games.

A Perfect Family Celebration

  • 5 of 5

We had our family of 18 to celebrate our 40th anniversary and the cottage was lovely and cozy. I love to cook for the family and the French country kitchen was fantastic with it open to the dining room. The kitchen is very well equipped. We spent a lot of our time on the screen in wrap around porch as some would read, play games, eat and still see the view of the lake and hear the sound of the water. The beach bathroom was great for an extra bathroom and also coming up from the beach to clean up. The grandchildren loved the playground equipment and the yard was big for the grandchildren to run around. We also had a beautiful private beach for the children as they spent all day there. The children loved the kayaks which was such a big hit.

I would recommend this home to people for a great get away family vacation. I do not have enough words to describe this place but to recommend this home if you want a lot of great old fashion cottage memories with your family. It is so nice to get away from this rat race world for a week to rest, enjoy and love what is important in life. This cottage was so family friendly! Thank you for renting us your home!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for such kind words about our cottage. We are so happy that your family had such a great experience there. Now I feel a little bad. You described it so perfectly, I wish we could spend more time there ourselves. Your review reminded me how much of a priority we should make to go up more often. Thank you again for leaving the cottage in perfect condition. And you are welcome to return any time. JM

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Eagle's Nest! The kitchen and dining area was great for our group of 10 and fully equipped for cooking. There is room for 4 in almost all the bedrooms, and there is a tv/game room that is very cozy. the view is spectacular! It's a wonderful home that exceeded my expectations

I haven't rented the same place twice before, but this is one worth returning to.

  • 5 of 5

I've rented a lot of vacation homes, from small fishing shacks in the woods in Lewiston, MI to 2,500 sq. ft. log homes in Tobermory, ON. Each one is it's own unique experience, but this is my new favorite.

This home sits atop the dune and takes advantage of the view in every shared room in the house. It's designed around the kitchen table, in an open room with the kitchen, and a large wrap around porch. Our group of 13 adults and 7 kids enjoyed most of our time in these areas, eating, playing games at the table, and enjoying each other in the gorgeous surroundings.

The home is stocked with linens and dishes, even toys and good reading material, so we only needed to pack clothes and food. We cooked every meal in the kitchen, since using the cooking, serving, and dining spaces made up some of the best memories.

Upstairs, the kids enjoyed a little second living room where they rested for a movie in the afternoons. There's also a small but extraordinary deck there for quiet contemplation.

There's quite a hill down to the lake, which was challenging but not impossible for the older/less able bodied among us. The beach is large and secluded and has some nice boulders to play on among sand bars in the water. It's shallow, but deep enough to swim well. Lots of pebbles and shells on the beach to occupy the kids for hours, and far enough from trees to fly kites.

We slept families with kids in the house and adults without in the bunk house. It worked out perfectly. The adults could play in the house at night without waking the kids, and the kids could wake for the sunrise without waking the 3rd shifters.

I haven't rented the same place twice before, but this is one worth returning to. It's built for families to shack up, and the design puts everyone in shared spaces/privacy better than anyplace I've been yet.

Family Get Away

  • 5 of 5

This house is stunning. Right on Lake Huron, private, has it's own beach, bathhouse outside, bunkhouse to sleep many. The main house is nicely set up, with room to comfortably house everyone. The only thing that is a slight drawback, the upstairs bedrooms are open to everything, so noise upstairs is an issue. The main living areas are nicely laid out, with a big living area with fireplace and views of the lake. My family loved the house and it's surroundings. Well done Marion Family! Your home is comfortable and architecturally beautiful at the same time. BRAVO!!

Amazing property and owners!!

  • 5 of 5

This was an incredible property and home. It was large enlightenment for our our group of 17 and cozy enough for our night with just 7 of us. When we arrived the owner was waiting for us and have us a through your of the home and grounds and explained how everything operates. There was a large welcome basket waiting for us with sausage,Brie, crackers and fruit and also a little candy and cookies because they knew we were traveling with children.

There were extras of everything!! Pillows,blankets,towels- you name it and they had extra- so everyone was able to be comfortable. The whole home was wired for sound so we had had Sirius radio in the background for our whole stay.

There was attention to detail everywhere you looked- this was not just a rental property to the owners, this is their personal summer retreat as well and it shows in the decor and standard in which they maintain their home.

The cupboards were stocked with spices and oils so there wasn't a need to pack it or buy extra for just the short stay. They had paper plate and cups and laundry soap- just all the little extra things you don't think about until they aren't there.

The lake was amazing- and due to the great weather we have been having we were able to swim;)

The screened in porch added an amazing space for the family to enjoy the yard- especially for our older relatives.

We loved this space and would return in a heartbeat!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very kind words of recommendation. You all are very sweet. Wow, what a surprise to find the laundry all done, AND folded. As well as spotless cleaning. You really didn't need to do that but thank you very much. I hope it didn't take away from your enjoyment of the cottage. Thanks for renting with us Jessica. Your family was very nice. And it would be our pleasure to rent to you in the future if you ever decide to come this way again. Thank you, John and Luann
