Have a great stay in Montreal !
And enjoy it’ s unique way of life !
We loved our room. Rented the room for our honeymoon and it was so beautiful and convenient. The location was perfect. Right across the street from a lovely park and close to some main streets for grocery stores, bars, and restaurants. We came in to the city late and when we got to our room we saw a nice bottle of wine on the kitchen table, along with some mini quiches and fruit. What a great way to end a terribly long train ride.
He later on came over to the room to meet us and give us some recommendations for nice places for breakfast and lunches. We tried both and they were perfect. We loved this room and if we come back Montreal we will be renting this room again.
What a fantastic trip it was!!!
Christophe and Alexis are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The apartment is in a great location.
The photos on VRBO are misleading. This is not a light-filled apartment. The front window is the only source of light. As the apartment is on the ground floor, dark grey curtains often have to be closed for privacy. The windows barely open and there is no chance for a cross breeze -- although a floor fan is available, plan on uncomfortable nights if the weather is hot. As previous reviews have indicated, there is little storage/usable space. The windows, windowsill and patio furniture are filthy. The apartment floor has a missing floorboard as well as an unfortunate change in height in the middle, leading to two opportunities to twist an ankle. The hallway to the apartment is full of cleaning stuff, so it looks messy and is uncomfortably narrow if you are carrying suitcases. Bottom line is that you can do better in terms of value for money.
My husband and I spent 5 nights in this unit. Location is great and I especially loved jogging in Parc La Fontaine, right across the street. Initial booking went very smoothly with great e-mail response time from Christophe. As our trip got closer it was difficult to coordinate arrival info. We were already en route to Montreal when we finally received the address of the unit. (VRBO/Homeaway user note: I called VRBO the night before our trip to see if they could provide the address, and they were right on top of helping us get in touch with Christophe and Alexis, whom we had not yet heard from. We learned that it’s VRBO policy that owners must contact renters and provide arrival information/instructions at least one week before the stay.)
Upon arrival, we waited outside for a bit with our luggage for Alexis to arrive. He was very nice and apologetic, but was not finished cleaning/setting up the unit and we waited around while he made the bed with fresh sheets. We appreciated very much that Alexis took the time to provide some helpful information to get us acquainted with the area. Linens and sheets provided were clean. We slept well in the bed provided.
Although you cannot beat the location, overall, Irena M nailed it with her summary, especially ringing true for us, “the glass table has to serve all too many purposes, since there is nowhere else to put anything.” The apartment and the patio are both significantly more unkempt than the photos depict. The patio furniture is worn and dirty; and the area was surrounded by large garbage bags for the duration our stay. The wooden windows are wedged open by miscellaneous objects. My husband and I are not fussy travelers, but despite the location, we were very underwhelmed by this unit and would not recommend it. And in hindsight, I question the preceding 5-star reviews, each left by reviewers with no previous activity.
To Irena’s comment about the taxi: we realized too late that the boundary for fixed CN $40 taxi rate “to downtown” from the airport ends about 300m from the apartment, on the other side of Rue Cherrier. Had we known where we were going far enough in advance we might have saved ourselves CN $15 by getting dropped of at 3500 Avenue du Parc la and making the short walk.
The location is great and within walking distance to many shops and sites. There is also the beautiful La Fontaine Park. In the case of this property, the pictures do not tell the whole story. The studio is very, very small and has the feel of a do-it-yourself project. Very old kitchen cabinets were painted over. Doors don't close. There are virtually no surface spaces where you can place something. There is a closet but no chest of drawers. There is really not enough space to open two suitcases at the same time. The glass table has to serve all too many purposes, since there is nowhere else to put anything. The floors were clean, but the window ledge, moldings, area above sink in kitchen, and many other details were quite dirty. We usually prepare two of three meals. The kitchen has a very large fridge, full stove/oven and very large microwave but no real space to prepare any food. Coffee makers a two single espresso makers. The bathroom shower is great , but the bathroom is so tiny that only people on the thinner side can fit in. We both are thin, so we managed. The bed is comfortable, but one side is against a dirty curtain that covers a dirty wall under a large window. If you move the bed, you can't open the entrance door. There are floor boards missing by the window which make it easy to mis-step and twist an ankle. The little patio area outside is on the street side in front of the building and is very dirty. It is also by the trash and recycling bins which stink. The bins remained full during our stay. The outdoor chairs and table have not been cleaned - perhaps ever. The studio is off a narrow hall with two other apartments across the hall. Sounds from those apartment carry loud and clear. The internet works, but the modem is in one of the other apartments. If someone there tinkers with the modem you lose the internet service. The owners were not easy to reach before we arrived. We did finally manage to contact one of them. We were given misleading information about the cost of a taxi from the airport (CN $52). The bus which stops at the Berri terminal within walking distance of the studio is CN $10. When we arrived the studio was still being cleaned. The second owner was there finishing up. He gave us some helpful information and did respond to questions that we texted. However, he was away and could not resolve the internet problems. In spite of the good location, we would not stay there again.
The apartment was perfect for us. Alexis was great - friendly, accommodating, professional. The apartment was equipped with everything we needed, and it's located on a beautiful street with plenty to do in walking distance. We would absolutely stay here again on another visit. Thank you, Alexis!
This small yet comfy suite is close to the metro in a family neighbourhood. There is a park across the street, a grocery store down the road and has all the amenities to feel at home while away from home. Owners were very friendly, helpful and nice. Would definitely stay here again.
