We are a lively couple who decided to start our guest house in the home next to ours. We had the idea one night and two months later we opened for business. We spend a majority of our time away from our normal job working on the ranch and enjoying the peace and quiet of the country. We will always respect your privacy; however, if you want to chat and have a drink together we would love to do so. If you ever need anything, please let us know.
Bonnie has deep roots in the San Marcos/Kyle area, and this property has been in her family for more than 4 generations. She is a graduate of Southwest Texas University, now Texas State, and majored in Sociology. She loves to get to know people, and you will love talking to her. She has spent time in Germany and loves to work on her Deustch when she has a chance.
Andrew is originally from Fredericksburg, TX and found himself in the Kyle area after leaving the active duty Army in 2004. He is a graduate of Texas Tech and majored in Business. He shares Bonnie's passion and love for the land and calls the ranch his 'happy place.' You will often see him on the tractor and working on the property. He is also a people person and can grill the best steaks in Texas. Andrew also has a daughter that you may see. Natalie is the light of our lives and she loves her home with us on the ranch. You might even get to enjoy some farm fresh eggs from her chickens if we have a surplus!
We would love to share our little piece of happiness with you! Come join us on the ranch and we guarantee you will want to stay here again and again.
The Ranch and H Heart - The ranch is a small piece of what it used to be. All of the area around us and even up to Roland Lane was owned by several sides of the family (Hughson, Rowland [Roland], and Conway). Through the generations the land was swapped, split, or sold leaving us with this 125 acre track that we call home. We hope to continue the tradition and pass it on to a 5th generation in the future.
The name “H Heart” comes from the family brand. Cecil Hughson, Bonnie’s great-grandfather known by her as “Pop,” was a Kyle area cattleman for many years. The love for the land, farming, and ranching, continued in the Hughson blood line. Bonnie’s grandfather, Papa, also raised cattle. He was known in the local area for another reason; baseball. “Tex” Hughson pitched for the University of Texas at Austin and the Boston Red Sox in the 1940s. Stanley, Bonnie's father, followed in the family footsteps. He farmed this land and raised cattle and goats on it until his death in 2009.
As we mentioned above, the porches are amazing and we enjoy them as much as we can. Our past guests have really enjoyed them as well. Although we are close to the city, if you are in the back yard you would never know it. The property just has a great, peaceful, calming ability that can't be explained. You have to experience it to understand!
My husband and I got ready at Texas Old Town in Kyle and having this place was awesome! Not only did we have a great place for the girls to get ready at, but we also had a place to keep food for the wedding in the full fridge and it was very convenient to be right next to the venue when we had to run up there for something real quick.
This is a cute and comfortable little house and we really enjoyed our stay there! Thank you!
The six of us (three married couples) needed a place to stay for a couple of nights while we attended a wedding at Texas Old Town. H Heart Guest Houseis a lovely home and was the perfect place for our stay. It's clean, comfortable, and super convenient; the venue was not more than five minutes away on a good road with little traffic. The kitchen had everything we needed for meals together, and there were even some snacks provided. The open plan of the living room, dining room and kitchen felt spacious.
We all agreed that our beds were super comfortable. Additionally, the towels and linens were of nice quality, and, as I've mentioned already, the home was exceptionally clean.
We loved sitting outside on the back porch enjoying the view and watching the wildlife. The setting of the home is quite lovely as it's on the Blanco River. There is a park just down the road (a quick drive or easy walk), and we waded in the river there for a while (There is no river access from the home). On our last morning at H Heart, we saw a doe and fawn. If you listen at night you'll hear owls and perhaps a distant coyote. The views are lovely both day and night; the stars here really ARE big and bright.
During our stay I also needed to attend an event in New Braunfels. The commute took less than thirty minutes! I think H Heart's location is a great choice for anyone who wants to enjoy the area and not experience the crowds. It feels like a fine home in the country amidst all the activities in the surrounding area and cities.
Finally, the owners were quite friendly and responsive to inquiries, but they gave us complete privacy. The transaction and communication were top notch.
I highly recommend H Heart Guest House. We enjoyed our stay, and we hope to stay again.
Loved it. We stayed here with another family and it met all of our needs. We were impressed with cleanliness, and overall decor. The convenience was amazing as Old Texas Town is just a mile away. Communities close by are San Marcos, Kyle, Buda and a short jaunt is Austin. The front and back porches provided quiet sitting times in the morning and evenings. Highly recommend.
This was an amazing home! We loved that it was so close to the wedding venue that family members could relax up to the last minute before heading to the venue. The property is beautiful and quiet. I loved being able to sit on the back porch in the morning while watching the birds and drinking a cup of coffee. The home itself is immaculate and very spacious. I was very impressed with the fact they had the bathrooms stocked with everything that a person might have forgotten! Toothbrushes, razors, safety pins, ect. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need for meal preparations. And we really appreciated that the fridge was stocked with cold bottles of water and there were snacks on the table for us to grab when we got there. We will definitely recommend this guest house to all our family and friends when they are in the area and need a place to stay. We want to thank the Cox family for providing such a wonderful home away from home!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our son got married down the street so we had all we needed to prepare good meals and sleep well to prepare us for the special day. Especially appreciated the stocked kitchen and supplies in the bathrooms. The house was very clean! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
The only regret I have is not being able to spend more time at this beautiful home. We rented the house to attend my daughters wedding at Texas Old Town and spent most of our time at the venue. We may have to go back just to enjoy the peace and drink our morning coffee while listening to the soft river flowing behind the house. The house itself had everything you could ever imagine ever needing and so much more than you get get from a hotel. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Cox for sharing your home. I would recommend and revisit any time!
