WOW, what a top of the ridge view! Hemlock Point is an Appalachian Log Homes cabin built in the vernacular of the Appalachian style. Square logs reminiscent of the Scotch Irish settlers in the 1700's make you feel as if you have stepped back to an earlier time. Large hemlocks, abundant on this property give Hemlock Point cabin its name. Furnished with antiques, a claw foot bathtub, natural materials, comfy furniture, quilts, a soapstone fireplace (albeit gas logs), a gun over the mantle, a variety of varmints hung on the wall (bought at auction)... collections to create an atmosphere of make believe. You are a now in the role of mountain settler, cozy up to the fire and set a spell.
The mountain ridge views from this log home are phenomenal. The breezes of refreshing mountain air are exhilarating. Looking out over 7 to 9 ridges (depends on the day) you can imagine how it looked to 'first nations' peoples and early settlers seeing it for the first time. Daniel Boone traversed these mountain ranges, living just few miles away on the Yadkin River. You certainly will believe that God was at work in building all the mountain's glory. Most of our guests have commented on God's blessings for this space, this mountain, this respite in their lives. Leatherwood Mountains subdivision, a 5000 acre gated community in southwestern Wilkes County, NC, is well known in the horse world for its extensive horse trail system, some of the most rugged in the eastern United States. Hemlock Point cabin has two horse stalls and pasture available for our guests.
The 75 miles of trails within the subdivision are perfect for hikers as well as horsemen. The views, the trails, the nature, the glory will abide here for all time.
Sitting on the top of a ridge, Hemlock Point cabin's views toward the western mountain ranges encompass up to 7 distant ridges. Nearly every window in the cabin features a long range mountain vista. Hemlock Point cabin is located in private wilderness Leatherwood Mountains subdivision. But being in the wilderness does not mean that one should be without modern comforts. The cabin features Digital television with Chromecast, WiFi, a new hot tub, and a well stocked kitchen for your convenience. Leatherwood Mountain's swimming pool, tennis courts, hiking and riding trails, and mountain fishing streams are also available. 'The Human Spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man,' written by an unknown author. We love the rural life! Our passions are the Blue Ridge Mountains and Eastern North Carolina on the Pamlico River. We surround our lives with history and culture; finding joy in the lives of those that came before us. We relish all things of nature: woods, wildlife, Celtic Music, boating, hiking, horseback riding, crafting, gardening... we see God's hands at work in the land and the creative spirit.
Mary Helen Ellis purchased this cabin in 1999
In 1997 we made a leap of faith and purchased our first property at Leatherwood Mountains Resort. We appreciated Leatherwood Mountain's concept of stewardship in creating a human presence but maintaining the wilderness for all generations. Our 16 acres at the center of 5000 protected acres will always be a home for God's creatures. Our views across the mountains will pretty much be the same for our lives and the lives of those that come after us. The North Carolina High Country in northeastern N C has a tremendous cultural history that speaks to our interests. The beauty and availability of wilderness areas soothes our souls. We feel very blessed to have found our spot that brings all of our loves together.
Hemlock Point is designed to take you away from where ever you come from...away to an earlier time in our history, back to life of our forefathers. Mountain life was part and parcel to the environment...the home was made from trees, the scene taken in was of God's handiwork, everything was slower and more deliberate in nature; one heard the cicadas, saw the stars in the night sky, witnessed the morning sunrise. We want there to be a place left in this busy world to relish nature. Take a horse back ride through the mountains. But all that being said, Hemlock Point is situated close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and is close to many Blue Ridge Mountain activities and points of interest. Best of both worlds!
Hemlock Point cabin is located in gated Leatherwood Mountains Resort. The square Hemlock logs, gas fireplace, rustic wood cabinets and antiques, including a claw foot tub, are all meant to give you the true North Carolina mountain settler cabin experience.
Hi Mary Helen
Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how much we enjoyed Hemlock.
Very sad day for us.
We decided on a whim to head out of town with our 2yr old son and just regroup as a family. Arriving at Hemlock in time for sunset on the deck was perfect.
You have a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing it with us.
This cabin is beautiful! Hot tub and fireplace on a big covered deck with mountain views... Who could ask for more? Amazing kitchen and bathrooms. Lots of fun stuff to keep you busy, like ping pong and great movie selection. Bring records, because there is a record player!
Relaxing weekend without anything to do. Enjoyed the hottub and beautiful views. Very relaxing! Cooked all our meals and just enjoyed some family time.
We decided to take a quick weekend get-a-way (2 adults, 2 kids, and a dog) and could not have picked a more perfect spot! First of all, the community is outstanding. Gated entrance, breathtaking views, friendly people everywhere, and the restaurant was delicious. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and dinner and drinks every evening. Now, as for the house...perfect, perfect, and more perfect! I could have literally stayed inside the entire time. The space was just right, very clean, and anything we needed was available. We had smores by the fire and the kids even took a dip in the hot tub (brrrr)! I can't say enough good things about this house. We will definitely be back!
Lastly, I highly recommend a trail ride. I am not a horse person like my husband is (although I think they are beautiful) but I am so glad I did it! We each had our own horse and they assured us the horses were extremely tame. Our children are 8 and 12 so yes I was very nervous! Our guide said the horses would follow her horse and they did just that. We took an hour ride through water, up and down hills, over rocks, and down the road. It was the perfect ending to our stay.
Hemlock Point Cabin is such a cool place with AWESOME views from every direction. You can enjoy the views from the upstairs deck, front deck or screened porch as well as from each window. The cabin is very private and quiet. The interior design and furnishings are fun and comfortable and having the washer and dryer was convenient. From watching the Sunrise to the Sunset, each moment has its own awe, we took over 700 photos in 11 days! The stargazing is absolutely amazing and the hiking is fabulous! We were blessed to experience the Fall Foliage which was beautiful.
I cannot express enough how gracious and accommodating Mary Helen, the owner is. She has truly thought of everything that you could need during your stay and is so easy to work with.
It was fun to see people horse back riding and also to visit the horses while they were in the pastures grazing. We enjoyed having lunch and dinner at the Leatherwood Mountains Resort office and they are also convenient for buying snacks, etc.
I highly recommend this little piece of Heaven. Eleven days flew by and we will definitely be returning as soon as possible.
Our family of three spent several nights at Hemlock and loved the cabin. I really appreciate the owners using high quality couches and mattresses. We've had the unfortunate experience with other rentals that had crummy beds and furniture because the owners have the "it's just a rental" mentality. Hemlock Point is the opposite. You can tell the owners must spend time there and want it to be just as nice for them as their guests. THANK YOU to the owners for this.
The area had record breaking rainfall during our stay so we missed out on all the outdoorsy things Leatherwood has to offer. It looked beautiful though! The home has a great TV, DVD collection and internet. We were well entertained while waiting out the rain.
Guided horse back riding, hiking, mountain creek tubing. This cabin rents with Rollin N the Hay for a 10% discount on both.
