WOW, what a top of the ridge view! Hemlock Point is an Appalachian Log Homes cabin built in the vernacular of the Appalachian style. Square logs reminiscent of the Scotch Irish settlers in the 1700's make you feel as if you have stepped back to an earlier time. Large hemlocks, abundant on this property give Hemlock Point cabin its name. Furnished with antiques, a claw foot bathtub, natural materials, comfy furniture, quilts, a soapstone fireplace (albeit gas logs), a gun over the mantle, a variety of varmints hung on the wall (bought at auction)... collections to create an atmosphere of make believe. You are a now in the role of mountain settler, cozy up to the fire and set a spell.
The mountain ridge views from this log home are phenomenal. The breezes of refreshing mountain air are exhilarating. Looking out over 7 to 9 ridges (depends on the day) you can imagine how it looked to 'first nations' peoples and early settlers seeing it for the first time. Daniel Boone traversed these mountain ranges, living just few miles away on the Yadkin River. You certainly will believe that God was at work in building all the mountain's glory. Most of our guests have commented on God's blessings for this space, this mountain, this respite in their lives. Leatherwood Mountains subdivision, a 5000 acre gated community in southwestern Wilkes County, NC, is well known in the horse world for its extensive horse trail system, some of the most rugged in the eastern United States. Hemlock Point cabin has two horse stalls and pasture available for our guests.
The 75 miles of trails within the subdivision are perfect for hikers as well as horsemen. The views, the trails, the nature, the glory will abide here for all time.
Sitting on the top of a ridge, Hemlock Point cabin's views toward the western mountain ranges encompass up to 7 distant ridges. Nearly every window in the cabin features a long range mountain vista. Hemlock Point cabin is located in private wilderness Leatherwood Mountains subdivision. But being in the wilderness does not mean that one should be without modern comforts. The cabin features Digital television with Chromecast, WiFi, a new hot tub, and a well stocked kitchen for your convenience. Leatherwood Mountain's swimming pool, tennis courts, hiking and riding trails, and mountain fishing streams are also available. 'The Human Spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man,' written by an unknown author. We love the rural life! Our passions are the Blue Ridge Mountains and Eastern North Carolina on the Pamlico River. We surround our lives with history and culture; finding joy in the lives of those that came before us. We relish all things of nature: woods, wildlife, Celtic Music, boating, hiking, horseback riding, crafting, gardening... we see God's hands at work in the land and the creative spirit.
Mary Helen Ellis purchased this cabin in 1999
In 1997 we made a leap of faith and purchased our first property at Leatherwood Mountains Resort. We appreciated Leatherwood Mountain's concept of stewardship in creating a human presence but maintaining the wilderness for all generations. Our 16 acres at the center of 5000 protected acres will always be a home for God's creatures. Our views across the mountains will pretty much be the same for our lives and the lives of those that come after us. The North Carolina High Country in northeastern N C has a tremendous cultural history that speaks to our interests. The beauty and availability of wilderness areas soothes our souls. We feel very blessed to have found our spot that brings all of our loves together.
Hemlock Point is designed to take you away from where ever you come from...away to an earlier time in our history, back to life of our forefathers. Mountain life was part and parcel to the environment...the home was made from trees, the scene taken in was of God's handiwork, everything was slower and more deliberate in nature; one heard the cicadas, saw the stars in the night sky, witnessed the morning sunrise. We want there to be a place left in this busy world to relish nature. Take a horse back ride through the mountains. But all that being said, Hemlock Point is situated close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and is close to many Blue Ridge Mountain activities and points of interest. Best of both worlds!
Hemlock Point cabin is located in gated Leatherwood Mountains Resort. The square Hemlock logs, gas fireplace, rustic wood cabinets and antiques, including a claw foot tub, are all meant to give you the true North Carolina mountain settler cabin experience.
Hi Mary Helen
Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how much we enjoyed Hemlock.
Very sad day for us.
We decided on a whim to head out of town with our 2yr old son and just regroup as a family. Arriving at Hemlock in time for sunset on the deck was perfect.
You have a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing it with us.
This cabin is beautiful! Hot tub and fireplace on a big covered deck with mountain views... Who could ask for more? Amazing kitchen and bathrooms. Lots of fun stuff to keep you busy, like ping pong and great movie selection. Bring records, because there is a record player!
Away from everything except the Buffalo Mercantile Company which really does have good food and friendly staff. We enjoyed our long weekend and will certainly consider returning. Very comfortable and we had no problems.
This is a great, quiet, spot in the mountains. Really enjoyed walking around the Leatherwood streets (lots of up and down), lounging by the fire watching movies, and soaking in the hot tub. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises each day.
Incredible mountain views and everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The cabin is clean, cozy and quiet. The bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable. I highly recommend Hemlock Point!! Thank you to the Eliis' for a great stay.
Stayed at Hemlock Point this past weekend with another couple and had a great time. The cabin had all we needed to enjoy a long weekend. It was very secluded and the views were beautiful. All we had to bring was food and drinks. We enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor fireplace in the evenings.
My family, including our dog, enjoyed a relaxing break at Hemlock Point. No one wanted to leave come Sunday. The posted pictures of Hemlock Point don't do the property or cabin justice. Our first thoughts were, "it's bigger than it looked and really cute" as we came up to the property, followed by "wow look at that view" as we climbed the wrap-around porch steps and "it's so pretty" as we entered the cabin. The cabin was well maintained, stocked, and very clean. Even the outdoor areas were well cared for despite being submerged in Nature. The only thing we thought missing at the cabin was a reclining chair on the deck for when you couldn't help but close your eyes and enjoy the peace. Hemlock Point provided us an opportunity to relax and enjoy family time. Thank you, Ms. Ellis, for sharing your home with us. We hope to be back soon.
