About Ted Mason

Ted and Bruce have had a longtime love affair with Mexico going back 30 years when they had their first holiday together travelling around the country. Ted's training as an architect haslead to a real passion for the historic architecture of Mexico, especially the builidngs of the 17th and 18th century. Bruce's passion is cooking and there is a rich tradtion of regional cooking in Mexico which he has been exploring for years. Ted learnt spanish in university which allowed them access to many aspects of the country which the average tourist might miss. They are both Canadians from small towns in Canada and appreciate the value of being part of a community. They have found the town of Puerto Vallarta to be especially welcoming and are making friends among both Mexicans and the large ex pat community. Their goal is to retire in Mexico.

Ted Mason purchased this condo in 2012

Why Ted Mason chose Puerto Vallarta

We fell in love with this property after a friend of ours bought in the building in 2009. Our friiend had lived in San Miguel Allende for years and had built a luxurious bed and breakfast which he operated with his partner. Health problems forced our friend into a more relaxed lifestyle in Puerto Vallarta where he discovered a very welcoming community that had most of the modern conveniences of home along with the interesting contrast of cultures that one finds throughout Mexico. The convenient airline connections to Canada, the top notch health services and the close proximity to the dynamic city of Guadalajara made Puerto Vallarta an excellent mix of amenities and culture. We discovered this for ourselves and decided that our reitrement would be spent here.

What makes this condo unique

When we first bought in Mexico we did have friends who doubted the wisdom of this choice. We were told that perhaps Palm Springs of Hawaii would be a safer investment. However we felt that we would be bored living in places that were essentially american suburbia. Our experiences living and travelling in Mexico gave us the knowledge that the country was not dangerous as it is protrayed in the Canadian and American media. We wanted to be able to walk to the local market and buy fruits and vegetable that we had never tried before and test new recipies for traditional Mexican dishes that are disappearing even among the locals as the country is more and more influenced by it's northern neighbours. Our condo is unique in that it offers to us both the traditional and the modern. Within the grounds we have all the amenties of home such as drinkable tap water, and amazing swimming pool, cool ocean breezes and a secure home that is hidden away from the sometimes hectic street life of the town. We can also step out the door and be into a dynamic and culturally interesting place that is a crossroads for people from all over the world. For us our Puerto Vallarta home offers the best of both worlds.

Beautiful Condo, Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

This condo was immaculate with a beautiful kitchen and open layout. The location of this condo is in the best location to enjoy old town Puerto Vallarta. The property manager was available anytime we had a question. We will definitely come back here again for vacation!

great place to stay

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from a 10 day stay in Ted's unit. We loved the complex, location, and the unit was as described and pictured. We even loved watching the iguana's from our balcony. We did have some loud karaoke from across the river a couple of nights, but we just closed the windows in the bedrooms and turned on the air conditioning, and everything was fine. We did have a couple of maintenance issues while we were there (the sink pipe was broke and the fan in the freezer came loose and was making loud noises) but we contacted the property manager and he was able to get somebody to repair them the next day and the property manager stayed at the unit the whole time the repairman was there. The location was perfect, we were close to many restaurants, shops, and lots of entertainment on the boardwalk and beach. The staff at the complex was very friendly and helpful in finding anything you needed, calling cabs, and suggesting restaurants and sights to see. The Puerta Vallarta Co. zip line is fantastic!

I only have one negative comment and that is the beds were very uncomfortable. The mattresses were really soft and had no support, other than slats, so they sagged really bad (and I only way 100lbs). I would strongly recommend that the mattresses be changed and upgraded to add support. My 30 year old son-in-law resorted to taking bedding and sleeping on the tile floor in the bedroom.

Overall, I would love to stay in the unit again, but I would love to hear that the beds have had the mattresses replaced or something done for support and comfort so that we could count on a good nights sleep.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback Jan. I am always looking for way to improve the condo and I will look into your suggestion about the mattresses. I prefer sleeping on a firm matress but I know most people like a mattress slightly softer than what I prefer which is why I have never changed them even though for me they are a little soft. No one has ever mentioned them before so I assumed they worked for most people. I will ask around and see if anyone else thinks I should get firmer ones and I will change them if others agree with you.

Great place in prime location

  • 5 of 5

The condo was beautiful and clean. It had all of the amenities you would require. The pool was great and surprisingly the food at the pool was really good. I ate some of he best chicken nachos I have ever had there.

I cannot say enough about the location of this place. You definitely do not need a car staying here.

The owner, property manager, and security at the condo were all very pleasant.

We cannot wait to go back. Everyone had a blast and loved the place.

Best Location in PV and AMAZING, Immaculate Condo!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I own a vacation rental and stay in VR's for almost all our travel. We've stayed in dozens over the years. This is our favorite by far! If you're looking for the BEST location, the NICEST condo, the EASIEST check-in, the CLEANEST and most COMPLETE accommodations, look no further.

I give this condo a perfect 10 rating. It was clean enough to eat off the floors, and I'm not even kidding. Everything shines! The bedding and mattresses are very comfortable; there are plenty of towels (including beach towels); the kitchen has absolutely everything, including some dishes I'd love to have taken home ;-). The pictures do not lie.

As far as location, there could not possibly be a better location if you want to be in Old Town (which you will if you're interested in the beach, the culture, the history, and some of the best food anywhere. You're right next to the river, right where it enters the sea. No car is required. I knew I'd picked the right place when I researched the top restaurants before leaving and noted that they were almost all within a FOUR minute walk of our condo. The pier is just a 5 minute walk or so, and from there you can book all kinds of excursions, including fishing trips (our catch was Skip Jack Tuna--so good!) and a trip to Yelapa, which I highly recommend. When you go, don't skip the walk to the waterfall (in season) and for sure walk to the beach through the village--a real highlight of the experience for us.

Molino de Agua's grounds are stellar. Seriously, they rival the best places we've stayed in Hawaii. The pool is amazing and so refreshing on a hot day.

The staff at both Molino de Agua and the local agency get high marks from us. The security guards speak English and will know you and greet you from day one. They were wonderful, helping us with everything we needed, even loaning us umbrellas and keeping our luggage for us. The concierge from the agency, Angel, greeted us on arrival and went above and beyond for us during our entire stay. He helped us book our fishing trip and one evening even arranged for his wife to babysit for us so we could have a night out. Our son loved her so much he would have enjoyed staying with her the whole time.

Our only disappointment was that the stay was too short. We loved it so much we plan to return in January (sadly we're too late to book our favorite place). Thanks so much, Ted, for sharing your piece of paradise with us. We'll be back! Muchas Gracias!

Located in the old town the condo is ideally located for walking tours of the surrounding area which will give one sense of the original architecture of this town before it was a tourist destination and a glimpse into everyday life of the iocal inhabitants. The surrounding neighbourhood is a genuine mexican town and not an artificial tourist resort. It contains an amazing array of shope and restaurants that cater to all tastes and budgets.

Notes:
Maid service is provided twice a week. There is also the option of having a cook come in to make meals. This we recommend for larger groups who wish to eat together in the comfort of their own home. The cook always leaves lots of leftovers for a meal the next day. There is a small bar/restaurant that operates at the pool and is available for drinks and snack for guests that don't wish to leave the pool area.
