Thank you for your interest in the Maple Grove cottage. It is one of 2 cottages, in an 80 year old family owned resort with one of the best 100 ft of private lake frontage on Silver Lake. The cottages are updated with all amenities. They are just 10 minutes from Traverse City. Silver Lake is a 600 acre spring-fed lake with clear sparkling water, surrounded by pines and hardwoods with islands and peninsulas, great for boating, fishing and swimming. The resort has been in existence since the 1930's when Silver Lake was just a fishing lake with a few resorts and cottages dotting the landscape. Because it was established so long ago, our resort is located on prime flat property with mature trees, set 600 ft. from the road. The 100 ft of sandy beach has a firm sandy bottom, with no stairs or steps. We have owned and managed the cottages since 1989. The cottages have been updated into modern homes as you can see in the photos.

You are looking at the Maple Grove, it is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath 1050 sq. ft home with central air conditioning, WiFi and a gas fireplace. It sleeps up to 4 adults.

Maple Grove has its own picnic table, charcoal grill and campfire pit with wood provided.

We strive to provide a clean and comfortable home for you during your visit to the Traverse City area.

Our own home is located on the property so we are available for sight-seeing advice, restaurant recommendations as well as just being here for our guests.

Join us in the Spring for nature's peace and beauty. Summer visits become a family tradition. Autumn is filled with cool, crisp days in all their color. Numerous golf courses are minutes away. Canoe, kayak or tube trips down the Boardman River- just down the road, or down the Platte River-25 minutes away. Bring your bikes as there are numerous bike trails in the Traverse City area.

You can Google search these activities or get the information when you arrive at the cottage in our resource book

There is so much to do in the Traverse City area. Some examples are: winery tours and tasting rooms, Children’s Museum, Moomers Homemade Ice Cream (voted #1 in U.S.), Pirate’s Cove Adventure Park, the State Theatre (home of the Traverse City Film Festival), The village at Grand Traverse Commons, Dennos Museum, Interlochen Arts and Performance Academy, Music House Museum, Sleeping Bear National Lake Shore Park, Wuerfel Park (home to the minor league baseball team-Beach Bums) as well as all the biking, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking available in our area.

About Marian

My husband, Tom and I were married in 1979. We moved to Traverse City in 1980 from the city of Detroit. My mother was raised on an local farm. My maternal great grandparents were pioneers to the area. My mother moved away when she was a young adult. I developed my love for the area as a young child as we vacationed every year in Traverse City. Tom and I honeymooned in Traverse City and moved here 9 months later. We raised our 5 children in Traverse City. The photo shows my husband, our 5 children, my uncle as well as myself.

Marian purchased this cottage in 1989

Why Marian chose Northern Michigan

We discovered and purchased our small resort in 1989. It was a diamond in the rough, but it had a great private sandy beach and was in close to Traverse City. We remodeled the cottages as we raised our 5 children. We worked on the cottages as a family. Over the years, our children have learned many skills and developed a great work ethic as everyone helped over the years.

What makes this cottage unique

We take great pride in providing clean/comfortable/updated homes that our guests will call home during their stay. You will be able to relax and enjoy your vacation as we are very available for assistance as we live on site

Aaaaaaaah, yes!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this lovely cottage based on the owner's description and one review, then held my breath. Well, not to worry, the cottage is as described. It is very clean, updated, nicely decorated, and quiet. Yes, the owners are next door, but are very respectful of renters' privacy, yet available if you need something. There are two cottages total that share the lake frontage with the owners. Owner Marian has taken great care (and a lot of work!) to create lovely gardens with a hint of whimsy. We had all the amenities we needed for preparing most meals in. The three bedrooms and one of the two baths are off the kitchen, separated by a door from the living areas, so if you are early to bed or early to rise, the quiet is a nice surprise. :) We were only four miles from the local Meijer and about 10-15 minutes from downtown Traverse City. So, we had the beauty and quiet of the lake, with the conveniences of downtown nearby.

We stayed for two weeks: week one with friends to explore the many wineries, and week two with family, including a four-year-old, who absolutely loved the sandy beach and water.

In addition to wineries, we explored Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pierce Stocking Drive, Glen Arbor, Leleand, the Art Park at Crystal Mountain, and the Dennos museum. We truly enjoyed our stay, and hope to return. . .the sooner the better!

Perfect Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This property was exactly what my wife and I needed to get away from the busyness of life for a weekend. We had a great time walking on the sand along the waterfront and chillin' in the hammock. The facilities were very nice and there was plenty of space for us to unwind and relax. Seeing how this property is so close to Traverse City, it is the perfect retreat to unwind and still have easy access to city life. The owners Tom and Marian are also delightful hosts; they are very kind and personable. I highly recommend this property!

Can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

I was somewhat hesitate to rent the Maple Grove Cottage, because it didn't have any reviews yet, which made me a little uncomfortable, although I think I understand why now; everyone wants to keep this little gem their secret!

Prior to arriving, Marian was very helpful in answering all the many questions I had, and gave us a lot of tips and suggestions. She always answered my e-mail inquiries in a very pleasant and timely fashion!

On arrival, upon opening the door I knew we had made the right decision! The fresh clean smell of the cottage was very inviting to a germaphobe as myself! The cottage is just as it appears in the pictures and is very clean!

Something we noticed, that is usually lacking in other rentals, is that the cottage was very soundproof! We couldn't hear the other couple in their room, even though we were right next to each other! That applied to the whole cottage, bathrooms included. Solid construction! Basically, the entire property is quiet, the few neighbors including the Brady's are all very quiet and respectful of each other.

Lastly, we just loved Marian and her husband... "Tom Brady"! lol They were so accommodating and helpful and very pleasant to chat with! I even left some items behind, and Marian shipped them back to me within 3 days of my calling her! can't wait to return to Maple Grove, it is one of our new favorite vacation spots!
