Property type villa
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

Villa with Private Garden, Panoramic Views and Large Private Pool for the Casale

Casina delle Rose in Casale Casina on the Tenuta di Villa d'Arceno is a free standing Villa with private garden. Perched on a hilltop with views of the surrounding vineyards, olive groves, the towers of Siena and Mt. Amiata in the distance, it is an ideal place to spend your Tuscan holiday.

Upon your arrival you will find a welcome basket that provides all the necessities for your first evening in your Chianti home away from home. The villa is a restored traditional Tuscan barn with a gourmet kitchen and dining area, and comfortable living room with wood burning fireplace downstairs, and two en suite bedrooms upstairs. There is a 'cantina' which contains the washing machine and dryer along with space to hang laundry. The terrace has a dining table, cabana umbrella and lounges for your use and enjoyment.

A typical day might begin with a quiet early morning swim in the pool at Casina, followed by a cappucino and pastry at the Bar Centrale in Castelnuovo Berardenga where you can plan your day's activities. Perhaps wine tasting in Montepulciano and Montalcino, with a stop for lunch in Pienza. Or the 'Della Francesco' tour to Arezzo and the surrounding countryside including Cortona. A more adventuresome day might include Assisi and Gubbio a wonderful town not normally on anyone's list of places to see. At the end of the day a refreshing swim followed by a glass of wine on your back terrace while you watch the sun set over Siena. Now you are ready for a delicious dinner at one of the many fine restaurants close by, then back home and a final glass of wine under the stars.

Perhaps you wish to relax after a long journey. The historic Arceno estate is a lovely place to explore on foot or by bicycle. There are two bicycles available for your enjoyment (please make use of the helmets). There are also numerous guidebooks and maps available on Tuscany and further afield for your perusal while at our home.

We have had a home in Chianti for over 17 years and have wonderful memories of the times we have shared here with family and friends. We hope you will treasure your memories of your time here, too.

Why Mary Warner chose Chianti Senese

Living and working in Italy in the 1990's gave us the opportunity to discover and enjoy the people and life style of this fantastic area. Coming to Tuscany and Chianti on holiday was so special that we were owners here in Villa d'Arceno within weeks of our first visit to this wonderful part of the world.

What makes this villa unique

Casina delle Rose is located in the unique estate of Villa d'Arceno a historic Tenuta covering a approximately 2,500 acres (1,000 hectares) of forest, vineyards and olive groves along with traditional Tuscan farmhouses and one of the most beautiful cypress avenues in Italy. This area is rich in the history of Italy and central to discovering the beauty of Tuscany and the major cities of Siena and Florence.

Wonderful week in beautiful Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay here which we have just, and with great sadness, returned from.

The house is situated in a magnificent and beautiful estate, is wonderfully private and enjoys stunning views of the Tuscan landscape over to Siena.

We were a family of two adults and three small children, and the house suited us very well indeed. The two en-suites were finished to an excellent standard, a numerous supply of fans were on hand to deal with the July heat, and the bedrooms were both large and well furnished.

The ground floor offers an excellent kitchen, well stocked with all of the equipment you could need, and comfortable lounge. All of the shutters on the windows, all of the doors, were of an excellent quality well suited to this house - and it was spotless on our arrival.

To sit out on the patio and enjoy the views was sensational. We were provided with a very generous 'welcome back' (thank you!) and kindly our hosts had also supplied a paddling pool for our little ones. The communal pool, a short, beautiful walk from the house, we usually had to ourselves and was spotlessly clean and incredibly.

I do not want to be home! Thank you for our kind hosts, the owners and house manager. All admin and organisation before, liaison during, and kindness following our visit have been impeccable.

Many thanks indeed.

5 every way!

  • 5 of 5

This was a flawless vacation, for the most part down to the Casina! What beautiful views! What a friendly and helpful welcome by Barbara! What an amazing location - minutes to excellent wineries and enotecas in Castelnuovo and 25 minutes to the gorgeous medieval city of Siena! I have been to Tuscany half a dozen times in my life and there is no better place to stay...I promise!

The house was very clean and had a beautiful kitchen - a wonder for the culinarily-inclined! Comfortable beds, bookshelves full of reading material (from mystery novels to serious histories), bikes to explore the surrounding vineyards and villages, board games for a quiet night, a pool for the sunny months, a basket full of maps and guides of the region, and the most spectacular patio that you have ever seen, with an ivy-covered wall spilling out to a view of the golden hills of Tuscany.

This place felt like home...if home was in the most beautiful place on earth! We will be back!

It couldn’t have been nicer

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful property. The house is charming. We particularly enjoyed all the natural lighting from the many doors and windows. We were also pleasantly surprised by the location. The immediate garden of olive trees is delightful and we loved walking the roads of the Tenuta di Villa d'Arceno, the cypress allees to the winery, as well as the two miles to the little village of San Gusme. As others have said, the house is beautifully maintained and provided with everything you could need including a local cell phone for making dinner reservations or calling the house manager with questions; the kitchen is a pleasure to work in; and watching the sunsets from the patio was a treat we looked forward to every evening. Besides the outstanding accommodations, the owners were very responsive and helpful throughout the rental process, as was the house manager regarding our arrival, our stay and our departure. The owners have also provided a wonderful list of local attractions and recommended restaurants that we used as our travel guide for most of our outings. The whole experience simply couldn’t have been nicer.

Just gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a more perfect home for our ten-day stay in Tuscany! It was ideally situated – private and quiet, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, with gorgeous views…and all the while, less that half an hour’s drive to Siena (and even less to some of the most beautiful villages in the region)!

Mary and her husband have restored this old barn with a great deal of love and attention. The kitchen is beautifully designed and better stocked than my kitchen at home and it was such a joy to cook in. The open-plan ground floor and two ensuite bedrooms upstairs are tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished and we could not have been more relaxed in this amazing space.

There is no room to describe all of the wonderful places we visited or things that we did, but here are a few…devoured gourmet ice cream and the best pappa al pomodoro I have ever eaten just down the hill in Castelnuovo Berardenga, strolled across the River Arno after marveling at Michelangelo’s David in Florence, tasted six exquisite Brunellos from 2010 while sitting in the middle of Montalcino’s hilltop fortress, wandered the annual chocolate festival in Perugia. Too many fantastic memories to recount!

Honestly, though, this review would be sorely incomplete without mentioning one of the highlights of our entire trip – the late afternoons we spent on the house’s west-facing terrace, watching the sun set golden and red over the mountains behind Siena. A glass of wine later and the hills were dotted with beautiful constellations of village lights under the stars. Such spectacular moments are what made our vacation truly memorable and what will certainly bring us back to Casina delle Rose again and again. We cannot wait for another visit in 2016!

Awesome Villa, pictures do not do it justice

  • 5 of 5

The Casa delle Rose is perfectly located in the Tuscany region. The cities/ villages of Florence, Sienna, Montepulciano (a must see) are all within an one hour drive, a TomTom GPS is highly recommended. Before arriving detail instruction on how to find the Villa were sent by e-mail and they were accurate and we did find the Villa without having to call for further instructions.

Upon our arrival we were met by Barbara, the representative for Mary & Tom, a beautiful and useful welcome basket (wine & pasta etc.) was there, a perfect way to start your Tuscany adventure and Barbara answered all our questions.

Pictures do not do it justice to this villa, the views were amazing of the olives trees, vineyards and mountains.

We were fortunate to be there when the grapes were being cultivated and observed the wine making process.

The winery Tenuta di Villa d'Arcenio is approx. 20 minute walk from the villa, you go by a road way lined with cypress trees which is something right out of a movie.

The facilities are great, laundry, wifi, TV with plenty of CD movies and a well equipped kitchen. You don't have to fight over which bedroom you would like both are fantastic and have an amazing view.

You always have some reservations when booking a villa/house from an internet site, will it live up to our expectations, well I can attest the Casa delle Rose surpassed our expectations.

It doesn't get any better than having a glass of Chianti Classico wine while enjoying the sunset. 2015 is expected to be a very good vintage but we will have to wait 18 months before the 2015 Chianti Classico will be ready.

Also important is to take a day trip visit to the local wineries, we were fortunate to find a small winery off the beaten path called “La Ripa”, the house which is part of the winery was once owned by the father of Monna Lisa in the late 1400's. The owner of the “La Ripa” is a very interesting gentlemen to speak with. It is these encounters that make a trip memorable.

If we ever get the opportunity to return to the Tuscany region we will definitely return at the Casa delle Rose.
