The Lanai is located on the world famous Sunset Beach. The closet beach is Sunset Beach. The lanai is the lower level of a plantation house. The rental is on a private gated acre and has wonderful ocean views. Also, the property is very Hawaiiana with flora and fauna that you can only experience with the country North Shore living.

Great time had at Lanai on Sunset

  • 4 of 5

Lanai on Sunset Beach is a clean and comfortable place to stay on the North Shore. The Lanai is in a great location, close enough to walk to Sunset but far enough away to avoid the crowds. We all loved the open space and riding the bikes on the bike path that went everywhere we wanted to go. Thanks Yuki!

Loved staying at the Lanai on Sunset Beach

  • 5 of 5

My family of four (two adults, two kids) very much enjoyed our stay at the Lanai on Sunset Beach and recommend this property (and any others offered by the same owner). The pictures are accurate but fail to capture how nice the entire property actually is and how relaxing the ocean sounds and breezes are.

Sunset Beach (with it's glorious surf) is a two minute walk. Everything else on Oahu is within a 45 minute drive, but the North Shore area has lots to offer all of which can be accessed from the property on foot, bike or by short drives.

The property itself has a reasonably sized combined living, dining and kitchen area, two bedrooms (queen beds), one bathroom, a large covered/furnished lanai and access to the the lush surrounding grounds. The kitchen is well equipped (no stove, but three plug-in burners + microwave and toaster oven work well) and the dining table and large day bed are quite nice. The beds are comfortable with clean, quality linens and both rooms have ample closet space. Everything in the property is tasteful and high standard (for a rental unit). Covered outside spaces are well furnished and also have a bbq and washer/dryer.

The owner is terrific - she's responsive and made the entire experience enjoyable and stress-free. My kids also enjoyed playing with her little dog Gypsy (who may have been happy to see us leave as my kids were chasing her all over the property ;-)).

All in all, a quality experience I look forward to repeating.

Very good house that you can share with other people

  • 4 of 5

This house is big and divided in 3 private houses, which is excellent to share with other people and have your privacy. You can go in a large group or with a small group and share the other houses with other people. The garden is great for children, with plenty of space for them to play. We would definitely recommend this house.

Peaceful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for decompressing, I live in Manhattan Beach. I slept outside every night and didn't get bit by bugs. I could hear the waves which was so relaxing. We loved the property its very lush. In the morning I noticed fruit trees, so I picked starfruit and grapefruit and made a bowl every morning from the fruit I found on the property. It was delicious. We watched the sunset every night and the stars are very bright. The house looks out at Sunset Beach. There was a surf contest going on during our stay. We just walked a few minutes to the beach and enjoyed watching the surfers ride the huge waves. We spent most of our time laying around. We grilled several nights which was fun. One day of the days we saw lots of turtles laying on the beach. The waves were big, but were still able to go swim and snorkel at Shark's Cove (lots of schools of fish). We had a full face snorkel and could see everything. Everyday we could see whales from the house breaching they looked so close. We had so much fun and I would love to come back again!

Beautiful Location

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely property and a nicely decorated rental in a great location. l. We loved the secluded aspect with the exception of trying to find the rental when we arrived late at night. It was frustrating. We had to negotiate a narrow driveway downhill in complete darkness. The parking is difficult since you cannot easily turn around and are wedged between trees that make it easy to scratch your car. I am glad another reviewer mentioned getting a 4 wheel drive vehicle, otherwise it would really have been frustrating trying to get back up the driveway to exit the property.

After finally parking the car, I tripped and injured my knee on the rocks by the driveway in the darkness. Sadly, I wish that was the only fall I took while renting the property.

If you are a senior citizen like me, be careful. The single bathroom, despite being lovely, has two tiny rugs that do not have non-slip backings. I did not realize that soon enough. The bathroom floor is smooth marble (or granite) so I went down hard on the floor while exiting the shower. Live and learn, I suggest you put down towels on the floor to avoid that lesson. Two knees injured for the entire week. {{sigh}} After that, I was not able to really walk much during that week.

The beds were comfy and the the furnishings were just as described. The lanai was quite nice and relaxing. The hammock was broken, which my husband discovered by trying to sit in it. He took a fall as well. Luckily, he was not injured.

The kitchen is stocked with only basic equipment and dishes. Don't expect to really do any cooking unless you are great with a toaster oven or a hot plate. No salt, pepper or such were available so you have to purchase everything you will need. I was surprised by how bare bones the kitchen was. Very disappointed.

Yuki, the owner, was very sweet and contrite about the house in front of our rental having a roof installed during our week so there was 3 days of construction noise to deal with. That was easily dealt with since we were gone most of the day but still the quiet would have been nice. The renters upstairs that partied (drunk and loud) for 2 nights really ruined our stay. Unbelievable! My grandson went to take out the garbage one evening and one of the upstairs renters was out peeing in our bushes. Our family got very little sleep until Yuki asked them to leave. Sadly, It was not one of our better vacations.

Owner's Response: I feel terrible that Kathy had a bad experience at the Lanai. Unfortunately, I was never contacted about the loud noise or disturbances so I wasn't able to help. I am available anytime before and during your stay. The renters above, obviously broke their rental agreement and I would have been able to address the situation immediately if I was informed. Unfortunately, owners do not know the people that they rent to. I do screen renters and the people were 4 adults two married couples related in their 60’s. I’m very surprised and disappointed too. Much Aloha
