About Lynn Brown

Hi I'm Lynn. A passionate lover of nature and animals and owner of a sweet german shepherd named Zeus, 2 adopted Gordon Shepherd puppies along with my 6 horses. I love where I live and enjoy sharing it with others, so I manage an 80 acre equestrian center, nature preserve and vacation rental which is home to many wildlife species…myself included.

I have been a professional instructor of Natural Horsemanship for over 20 years and an avid equestrian. I currently teach private riding clinics and offer lessons. Recently I was also an instructor for a variety of natural horsemanship courses at Isothermal Community College here in Polk County where I enjoyed sharing techniques that were passed onto me. I have attended the International Study Center for Parelli Horsemanship in both Florida and Colorado and have been trained by several of the masters... Buck Brannaman, Lynn Palm, Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson, Pat Parelli and Dan James. Prior to opening TRANSITIONS I worked for several Fortune100 companies in sales and management for 30 years in the medical/surgical industry as well as IT.

I am Parelli Certified Level 4, a Certified Level 2 EAGALA Equine Specialist, a member of EFMHA (Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association) and have worked with my horses as an Equine Specialist for the department of juvenile justice, mental health community and prominent residential addiction treatment facilities in and around Polk and Rutherford counties.

About 7 years ago I created a unique learning center here called Transitions Empowerment Center (TRANSITIONS), located on 80 beautiful and tranquil rolling acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Where I offer three main programs: Natural Horsemanship (for instructor directed riding and horsemanship skills), Equine Guided Learning (for personal and professional growth) and Professional Services (focused on developing leadership skills and team building for businesses and organizations).

Why Lynn Brown chose Rutherfordton

Prior to moving to North Carolina I lived in Illinois, Colorado and most recently Florida. My husband and I love the four seasons of the midwest and the lush green foliage but were looking for more moderate temperatures. We fell in love with Colorado and the mountains and missed them while in Florida but not the huge amounts of snow. After spending over two years traveling to North Carolina to find our Dream Home, we discovered this property. We enjoy sharing the peacefulness of the country, the beauty that nature provides everyday for us here and the abundance of wildlife that makes up this preserve. We chose to move here 7 years ago and live onsite. Sharing with others the beauty and tranquillity of the views, habitats, wildlife and woodlands as well as our horses - has become our way of life here. To preserve and protect all that is here is our legacy while we strive for a green sustainable environment.

What makes this cabin unique

We are onsite owners and live on the north 40 acres of the property. While you enjoy complete privacy you also have us available should you need assistance during your stay. Concierge service with area restaurants or attractions or just help with anything at the cabin. Customer service is our specialty.

A Hideaway Cabin sits on it's own 40 wooded acres so collectively you have 80 acres to enjoy without ever having to leave the estate. Your privacy and security is assured beginning with the gated entryway. If you are looking for the ultimate in tranquility and would rather not endure the hectic noise, traffic or intrusion of other travelers during your trip, then we are the ideal location. I guarantee there is nothing else like it anywhere. You won't see or hear anyone else during your stay, it's like having your own private preserve all to yourself.

The property includes so many options onsite for your enjoyment that everyone can find something. We are extremely dog friendly and have over 2 miles of walking trails for your pets to explore off leash! They do not need to be leashed while at the cabin at all.

Feeling adventurous? Miles of gentle walking trails or more challenging trails for a hike or workout, fish in our private pond, stocked with catfish, large mouth bass and brim or schedule a relaxing guided trail ride with us on our well trained horses. Hand walked pony rides are even offered for the little ones!

About an hour from Greenville, Asheville or Charlotte our location provides the perfect base camp for exploring all that western North Carolina has to offer. Minutes to beautiful Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park. Only 7 miles to the new Tryon International Equestrian Center.

Wonderful, relaxing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cabin for a few days after Christmas and it was an amazing experience. Lynn is a great host and met us at the gate and gave us a brief tour of their property on the way to the cabin and of the cabin itself. The property is a beautiful, hilly, wooded horse farm and the cabin sits on the back 40 acres. It offers the perfect blend of seclusion (mostly isolated from everything around it by the woods) and accessibility to your hosts should any issues arise. The cabin is small and the wood stove keeps it nice and cozy inside. The weather was cold and we never had any desire to leave the property. I can’t express how much we loved being there and our morning/afternoon/evening walks with our dogs on the trails. A perfect getaway. We will definitely return and maybe next time enjoy a horseback ride. Thank you guys so much!

A Highly Recommended Cozy & Charming Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We spent Christmas at the Hideaway cabin and had a wonderful time!

Lynn was an amazing host. From providing great directions, to accommodating an early check in, to putting up a Christmas tree, having the wood burning stove lit and ready to be enjoyed ... she even made a sweet treat for us (and left dog bones for the pups) upon arrival. No detail was overlooked.

The cabin was perfectly clean and had plenty of kitchen essential, fresh towels and a comfy bed. The only thing there was to do was simply ENJOY!

The property itself was beautiful. You have access to the pond, walking trails and horses. We spent an afternoon hanging around the stables and petting / learning about the horses. It was a great way to relax and decompress.

The property is completely private, yet still accessible with easy access to other nearby towns should you want to do a day trip and/or check out a restaurant.

We'd love to come back during the Fall when the leaves have begun to change and actually ride the horses, as we couldn't imagine a more picture perfect place to spend another weekend.

I'd highly recommend this property to anyone & everyone!

Its so beautiful and Lynn and her husband take such excellent care to be sure everything is ready.

  • 5 of 5

Its such a wonderful place and Lynn and her husband take such personal care to be sure that absolutely everything is ready, perfectly clean and welcoming. This year at Thanksgiving they had the entrance decorated with beautiful Fall decorations and when we returned in December again they had a beautiful Christas tree all decorated with ornaments and lights inside the cabin. The fire is always on and greeting us and they are always available for any questions, and make us safe as they live on the property nearby the cabin and secure the entire premises at night by a private gate. 5 star def. Quiet seclusion

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights with our dog Sonny and the cabin was ideal for our needs. Met by the friendly host Lynn who gave us a mini guided tour of the establishment, pointing out the marked walking trails and going over the cabins facilities. A nice touch was the welcome pack of a pound cake and a treat for the dog. The cabin itself is cosy and comfortable.

I can certainly recommend Hideaway cabin and wouldn`t hesitate going again sometime in the future.

The cabin is handy for Lake Lure and Chimney mountain among others.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for the kind words, wonderful review and the compliments you wrote in my guest book..."PERFECTION"! Wow that's a resounding thumbs up, and it means the world to me that guests from England that have never tried a vacation rental property before here in the US selected mine! Special touches like the welcome gifts, audio tour and personalized meet and greet at check in are just a small part of how I love to spoil my guests. Thrilled your fur-baby found the 40 acres of off leash trails amazing and left as happy as you did. Thank you for also leaving a 5 star review on my Facebook Page - A Hideaway Cabin at Transitions. Please come visit again soon!

Look no further!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is so perfect, it really felt like home away from home. It is well stocked, very clean, spacious, and super comfy. Lynn and Doug were some of the nicest people I've ever met! Our boys loved the horses, the fishing pond, the trails, the cabin, and the property in general. It is secluded, beautiful, and peaceful. We normally visit state parks while we're in the mountains but we enjoyed the property so much that we rarely left.

Owner's Response: Thank you Kristy for the glowing review. I truly enjoyed meeting your family, watching their eyes open wide when petting the horses, beaming with pride when each boy caught fish and in general taking full advantage of all our unique destination has to offer. I often hear from guests that we should advertise as an "all inclusive destination property" as there are so many things to see and do onsight. Hiking, walking on miles of trails, sitting in the evening on the spacious front porch on the swing or oversized club chairs enjoying nature as it walks by, fishing at the spring fed stocked pond...and sometimes catching too...LOL! Centrally located to many top area attractions the choice to leave and use us as a hub or never leave and soak in a country estate is yours for the choosing. Can't wait to have you all back again. Thank you for sending all the amazing pics you took while on site, plan to add those to my Facebook page and website...LOVE bragging about my guests.
