About the property

Cottage, 1 Bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This exquisite Asian jewel is set in beautiful, peaceful, private gardens with a large pond. Gorgeous custom-made furniture, Bose surround-sound, spa-like glass block shower. Quiet, clean, radiant heat under bamboo floor warms the soul and feet. A truly inspiring space with tons of architectural details. Quarter of a mile walk over sand dunes (50 yards away) offers unique access to shoreline of Ten Mile beach and river in the Fort Bragg sunbelt. Because this section of beach is only by private access, it's relatively deserted. Many guests choose to come for a solo retreat. There's a deck and props for yoga, a firepit with wood provided, and a barbeque with charcoal provided. 40 bird species within a one mile radius of the cottage.

Come, relax, unwind, decompress from the city and reenergize your spirit!

Sleep in comfortable queen Flo-Bed (latex) with the surf as a lullaby and birds as your alarm. Four state parks nearby for kayaking, canoeing, hiking etc. Fort Bragg and Mendocino shops and restaurants 10 to 20 minutes respectively. Lost Coast 30 min. north of Westport.

Sorry, no pets.

About Lindsay

I'm a 34 year resident of Fort Bragg- all that time practicing as a psychotherapist but now retired. My other occupation is tending my Japanese garden! I love walking on the virtually deserted dunes and stretch of Ten Mile beach. All my guests comment on the serene, peaceful feeling of the property and the attention to detail. I live in the main house on the property.

Lindsay purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Lindsay chose North Coast California

I custom built the cottage originally for friends to enjoy when visiting.

What makes this cottage unique

Peace, quiet, beautiful natural surroundings and easy access to a little used stretch of the beach. 40 bird species within a one mile radius of cottage.

Tranquil Zen Jewel Sanctuary says it all!

  • 5 of 5

One of the most relaxing places we have ever stayed! The cottage and grounds are amazing! Lindsay has thought of everything. To be able to walk out onto the road, to the trail, onto the dunes (yes it's a little bit of a hike!), and then to find yourself all alone on 10 mile beach is truly a blessing!

Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Zen Sanctuary was all we could have asked for. A tranquil setting on a busy holiday weekend. Daytime to sunset in the dunes and on the deserted beach, evenings by the firepit. Lindsay is a gracious host, and provided for a peaceful and private stay. Would recommend to anyone wanting to get away and enjoy the north coast at its best.

Nice Stay

  • 5 of 5

It was another wonderful week in Ft. Bragg. We found some new places to visit including the Zen Sanctuary. Well appointed, comfortable bed and beautiful garden. A little further out of town than we are used to and a long walk over dunes to the beach (which we never made), but a nice stay.

Even better than the pictures

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a place where you can get away from your phone, your computer, and all of the things that assail your consciousness with noise, then you've found the perfect place. The "sanctuary" is its own standalone building adjoining a lovely zen garden, featuring a gorgeous pond, access to the beautiful dunes of the Mendocino coast, and one of the most welcoming and spacious cabins you'll find on VRBO. The entire property looks like it was lifted out of a Buddhist or Shinto shrine in rural Japan. Inside, the cabin was spotless, and Lindsay (our host) met us with a quick and kindly review of the many amenities. We had complete privacy throughout our stay, and every detail fed into the peaceful experience we enjoyed.

Do yourself a favor, if you're coming up from the bay area, take 182 out from 101 early enough to catch the incredible wineries of the Anderson Valley, and you'll be able to make your way up to Ft. Bragg for groceries, and up to the property with enough time to enjoy the golden hour light as it filters down through the trees into the garden.

It's real. It's everything you think it is. You deserve this for yourself.

An unbelievably beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

First up, Lindsay, the owner, is a very charming, friendly, helpful, and cordial host! She knows the area very well, and though I didn't need them (having visited the area often in the past), Lindsay is more than happy to recommend local activities and destinations.

Now, onto the home itself: I'm going to be parroting many other reviewers, but I felt compelled to give as glowing a recommendation as I could! This place is STUNNING. So incredibly beautiful with the Japanese architecture, the climate and surrounding area, and most of all the expansive Japanese gardens! The entire lot is a thing of true beauty and tranquility. The home is cozy, quiet, well-equipped, and very well maintained. I wanted for nothing once I stopped for groceries nearby!

I could go on, as others have, about how peaceful and how deeply relaxing Lindsay's Zen Jewel is, but the photos and other reviews could never do this amazing sanctuary justice!! I really can't wait to return one day.

Many thanks to Lindsay and her lovely pets for sharing it with me, I'm so grateful!
