About the property

4 Bedroom Caribbean French Wooden House Built in the 1940's

Exclusive beachfront!

Please checkout our other listing (Villa Gabi). Listing # 3770880.

Villa Mango, a 1940´s Caribbean wooden retreat remodeled by today’s standards. Located on the exotic northern shoreline in Punta Rucia, Puerto Plata province, between Luperon and Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic.

This graceful Caribbean property combines elegance and simplicity: a real dream come true! This is the perfect escape to a tropical paradise just for you. It’s a must visit, with its precious beach, abundant colorful coral reefs minutes away for snorkeling and, with Villa Mango’s 21 feet fishing boat, just 20 minutes away from the famous Cayo Paraiso, ranked by CNN Travel in May 2013 ¨The 34th most beautiful beach in the world¨.

Villa Mango is the perfect getaway, with its private gated 11,000 sq. ft. property, exclusive coral sand & crystal water beach, 4 spacious bedrooms each with air-conditioning (OPTIONAL at US$35 for all 4 rooms), 2 full bathrooms with water heater, 32”LED TV, cable TV service, wireless internet, large brick BBQ (Charcoal NOT PROVIDED), hammocks, open terrace dinning space, interactive very well equipped kitchen (NO MICROWAVE NOR DISHWASHER), laundry area with washing and drying machine, back up generator and backup battery inverter powered by solar panels to guaranty an enjoyable and comfortable stay with 24 hours of electricity.

Nearby, you can enjoy the culinary art of 2 French Restaurants as well as typical Dominican food. Also a few houses away, we have a little authentic Italian Pizzeria. Just next door, you have “Paradise Island” a tour operator that offers tours to tourists visiting Cayo Paraiso, this establishment’s restaurant also offers breakfast, lunch and dinner that can be served directly at Villa Mango's table as if we were part of the restaurant: they also serve drinks to the public.

The perfect Dominican spot with one of the country’s least percentile of precipitation (it almost never rain), a great condition to guaranty a wonderful outdoor vacation.

Personnel included: a Maid available for daily cleaning and a gardener that sleeps on the premises to assure your safety and comfort.

Punta Rucia is located at 60 km from Puerto Plata city.

Our driver is always available for airport pick up and drop-off from Puerto Plata or Santiago’s International airport for a maximum of 4 guests + luggages and in our Chevrolet Express van we offer services for groups of up to 8 guests plus luggages.

The use of the Villa’s 21 feet fishing boat for rides, fishing and water sports is available at an extra cost, including an experienced captain and all the necessary equipment.

The use of the air-conditioning is available at an extra cost of US$35 for all 4 rooms. Each room includes a fan at no extra cost.

A minimum of 5 nights stay is required.

Additional information & Fees:

We offer airport pick up/ drop off: for parties of 4 people or less, we charge US$150 each way for airport pickup and drop-off from and to the airports mentioned above. We personally do the pick-up and drop-off in our SUV, if we're unable our driver is always available. This is paid after the service is offered. If you are over 4 people, we have a minivan for up to 8 people plus luggage, the cost is US$200. from Puerto Plata and Santiago airport. In the pick up we include one hour waiting at the supermarket, if other stops are required the cost is USD$ 50 extra per hour or hour fraction. If pick up or drop off are in night time (6:00 pm- 8:00 am) the cost is US$250 and USD$ 300, respectively.

We really don't recommend our guests to rent cars as traffic can get very hectic (a lot of people don't respect the traffic signs and there are a LOT of motorcycles), streets aren't well signaled and GPS (or google map) is not to be trusted, as it can take you off roads. We have had guests taking up to 8 hours when we usually take 1.5-2 hours from the airport to the house. Most of our guests who rent cars regret doing so. But of course this is ultimately your decision.

We have a BBQ, but charcoal is not included and is to be bought in the supermarket.

In Punta Rusia there is only a very small market with the most basic items: eggs, salt, sugar, sodas, beer, tropical fruits and vegetables, generic toilet paper and very fresh seafood.

We offer complimentary but limited amounts of coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, toilet paper, body soap, shampoo and conditioner. We also supply unlimited drinking water.

Our maid offers cooking services from USD$20-50 per day depending on how many meals you would like her to prepare (1-3 meals per day). This price includes the cooking service and cleaning the dishes afterwards, all ingredients must be supplied by you. Her specialty is fresh seafood and Dominican food.

We always recommend our guests the use of mosquito repellent and sunscreen, you can get these at the supermarket.

There are no pharmacies or ATM in town, you can find these at the airport or supermarket in the city you fly into.

Check in at your arrival is at 2 pm the earliest and check out at your departure is at 11 am the latest. Failing to leave the premises on time will result into a fine of USD$ 100 per hour to be discounted from the security deposit.

There will be a late check in and early check out (9 pm to 7 am) charge of USD$ 25 each, only if our pick up/ drop off service is not used.

Maximum capacity is 8 people, including children from 2 years of age and on, if more people were to sleep in the house a fine will apply of USD$ 50 per extra person per night.

About Carl-Philippe Mangones

We've been married for 9 years and have a wonderful baby girl of 8 years of age. We love the water and enjoy our weekends on our boat!

Carl-Philippe Mangones purchased this villa in 2013

Why Carl-Philippe Mangones chose Dominican Republic North Coast

This was love at first site! We first bought our boat last year and we were looking for the perfect place to enjoy the boating life, for us, Punta Rucia was the most amazing place to own a boat in the northern coast.

A few months later, we found this great opportunity with our teacher from Law-School that was looking for a potential buyer to sale his 40 year old weekend retreat that he had remodeled back than. We jumped on the occasion and remodeled it by today's standards, this was certainly one of the best decisions we have taken in our 9 years of marriage.

This is truly a unique paradise far from the big crowd!

What makes this villa unique

Beach House right on the bay, with protection from the Atlantic big waves. This is the perfect spot for the family and small kids to enjoy the tranquility of calm waters. Punta Rucia is still a quiet and secret touristic site away from the big crowd. This is a small town where everyone knows each other by name and live in harmony. This is truly the perfect spot to disconnect and have true relaxing vacations.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful house in the best possible location

  • 5 of 5

I spent two weeks at villa mango with my brother, mother and two children (4and 8) and just loved it.

First the location, it is in a fairly remote location but this was ideal for us. The beach by the house was pristine and the sea the most gorgeous color, clear and blue. We walked the whole length of the beach several times and for us the beach in front of the house was by far the best. Next door is the paridiso eco lodge and they have a outside bar and restaurant that was pretty good. They also have a few inflatables at sea and my 8 year old really enjoyed them.

Towards the middle of the beach there is a local bar and a little plaza. Locals hang out here and there is music (batchata), playing all day and evening. It's faint and I enjoyed it. The beach in front of the bar and town area is not the nicest part , which is why villa mango is so ideal.

The house- we just loved it. It had everything you can need to make a stay very comfortable and the house keeper rafaelina takes great care of it. It is cleaned everyday! It is super clean and comfortable. They even have really nice beach loungers. There are 3 people helping take care of the house, rafaelina, kleiby and Alfonse. All are fabulous. Rafaelina and kleiby have 3 girls and my children loved playing with them almost every day. The house also has a big trampoline and the kids spent hours in it. We brought a lot of beach toys. The house has some buckets and beach stuff but I would recommend bringing a boogie board, snorkel stuff and flippers, inflatables.

Trips- we went to paradise island (cayo arena) and it was my favorite trip. Go early and snorkel. Kleiby organized this for us . We also went to ocean world. I thought this was insanely expensive and not my kind of thing at all but my daughter swam with the dolphins and had a blast. We went with kleiby to puerto plata and went up the mountain for spectacular views, and the amber museum.

eating in punta rucia- we mainly ate at home. A few times Rafaelina cooked. We also ate at the lodge next door. There is a place called linos which makes good pizza. There are some local food places in town and the fancy punta rucia lodge. The food there isn't that exciting though. There are people that. One by with fresh fish and crab for sale and a fruit and vegetable truck hat comes by in front of the house. We got all our fresh fruit from there .

Overall this was a fabulous holiday, friendly place and wonderful people. Can't wait to go back

Great Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the villa for two weeks at the end of February beginning of march. My husband and I, two youngest children five and six an my inlaws. We had such a good time. Beautiful villa. Quiet location. All the great reviews are the honest truth. Klieby and Rafalina are absolutely amazing house managers. Klieby picked us up from the airport and made us feel so comfortable right away. His wife Rafalina is the villas maid and awesome cook. We can't say enough good things about them and their beautiful girls. We went out for dinner at the local pizza place and the French Restraunt at the Villa Rosa a few nights and both were great and priced well. We had Rafalina cook a few nights and those meals were the best. The people in the town were also very helpful and we felt very safe. Alfonso was the groundskeeper and stayed on the property each night for security. He was always available to help and made us feel safe. He cleaned the beach daily and helped us with anything we needed. I only wish I knew he spoke French before our last day , my French is was better then my nonexistent Spanish. Definitely plan your shopping at the big grocery store before you get to the house for meat/bacon/fruit/cereals. In town it's basically a larger convenience store. They have liquor, eggs, toiletries, milk, juice, pop, local veggies, beer but only liters, some bread and buns but they might not be the freshest. I recommend getting Klieby to pick you up at the airport. The drivers are pretty wild. The owners were grrat and very fast to respond and answer all my questions. We have rented houses in the US (we are Canadian) , in the Bahamas and various places in Central America. We love non touristy places where we can soak up some culture. This was undeniably one of the best place we've rented. My 65 year old inlaws said that this was the best vacation they have been on in there whole lives and they have been all over. I actually hesitate to even leave this review because I would like to keep it secret. We have had so many friends and family members request us for more info after seeing our pictures. We are actually planning on returning this fall and just trying to work out the details!! We miss it there already:)

Breathtaking .... Beautiful..... Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

House is beautifully done. Luxury and simplicity there. Designed to catch perfect cross breeze . Best views. Surrounded by friendly local people. Utter peace. House was pristine , with everything we needed. One unexpected but priceless experience was the friendship formed with the caretakers of the home . You cannot imagine more genuine, friendly souls. The conversations and fun we had with the people was the best part of the trip. Beautiful country, beautiful house, wonderful people. Thank you. We will be back. Special thank you to Kleiby, Rafelina, and Alfonso. Carl-Philippe and Natalie also were wonderful and took the time to meet us after we arrived and answered any question immediately . Amazing !

My adult kids (in their 20's) LOVED IT !!

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to treat my adult children (and a friend each) to a warm vacation where they could be introduced to tropical fish. They had all been to resorts before, so I wanted something away from commercialized resort areas. Villa Mango was affordable for our large group of 7, and it turned out to be ideal. Everyone LOVED it ! We did not rent a car, and Carl-Phillipe's van was spacious and more affordable than a rental. We stalked up on groceries and made our own breakfasts and lunches every day, with the plan to eat out for supper. Villa Mango was very comfortable for our big group and is in a spectacular location. The night we arrived, without any notice, we stumbled into Carmen's Restaurant, and even with a power outage, she cooked us a delicious meal. We ate at all of the local restaurants and found the food and service wonderful, and shockingly cheap compared to Canada. (It worked out best to let the restaurant know earlier in the day that we were coming, because of our big group.) Kleiby, Rafaelina and Alphonse took excellent care of us, and the 3 little daughters are adorable. Kleiby is a great boat captain and a talented free diver. He guided us on a wonderful snorkel at the reef and took our underwater camera to get some great shots of our family snorkeling with the fish. Our best meal by far was Rafaelina's mahi mahi. There was a perfect mix of activities and relaxation. We had a great day with Rene from Corales Scuba. For an affordable price, he picked us up by boat, took the qualified divers first while the rest snorkeled, and then took 4 of us on a "Learn to Scuba" beginner dive. It was quite exciting and a special opportunity. My kids played billiards and dominoes with the locals and really enjoyed learning some Spanish. They all agreed this cultural experience was much better than a resort. Don't forget to go to the pizza place in the other direction from town. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs (distant roosters). Bring lots of sunscreen. We enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, a visit to the manatees, and we all walked the long beautiful beach every day. My husband loved the fancy open-air resort right next door, where he indulged in an afternoon pina colada every day. Once we arrived at Villa Mango, no one wanted to go to any of the tourist attractions near Peurta Plata. We definitely hope to go back again!!

One of the best places we've ever stayed!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I surprised our three kids with a trip to the D.R. for Christmas. This was one of the coolest places I've ever gone. The house is beautiful and very user friendly, I wish I could live in a place like this. We spent our nine days on the beach, rented kayaks nearby at Villa Rosa, swam and snorkeled, and enjoyed long walks on the beach or in town. A trip to 27 Waterfalls was great and offered great views of the beautiful and scenic countryside. We also rented their boat for a day for the trip to Paradise Island which offered outstanding snorkeling. While the water gets a bit stirred up for snorkeling right in front of the house it is still very beautiful and offers an amazing experience.

The staff are wonderful. Klavie was our driver and boat captain who didn't speak a lot of English but we managed to communicate with my poor Spanish and his english. He was a great help and I consider him a new friend. As Natalie and Carl -Philippe recommend we did arrange for them (Klavie and Calr-Philippe) to pick us up instead of renting a car. This worked out very well as we ended up getting in late due to flight delays. They were able to find us an open supermarket for groceries on Christmas day and get us safely to the house in the dark. I will rent a car next time but for our first trip to the D.R., with three young kids, it was nice to not get lost.

The town is small and doesn't offer many places to eat or shop as they openly state. But the people are friendly and always return a smile, wave, or "hola'". Watching them play domino's by the beach and sharing a round of rum and cokes with a few local guys was great entertainment. The food at Klavie's father's restaurant was outstanding.

If you like a little adventure and nice quite places this place was wonderful. I didn't want to leave and would definitely go back, and hope to do so! Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

Villa Mango

  • 3 of 5

Villa Mango is nice, but as with any property, has limitations and drawbacks, which the owner will share with you in advance, and upon request. As with any property, some of these may be under the owner’s control, others may not, such those arising from activities undertaken by other parties within the jurisdiction which may or may not impact on the quality of your experience. I would advise any guest to review these carefully and exercise all due caution and consideration, and to freely arrive at their own opinion, to be shared openly, or not.

If you go, please visit the Manatee park – they are doing important work there protecting this endangered species and caring for its health and welfare by limiting impacts on its environment of pollutants. You will enjoy your visit immensely and they will benefit from your support.
