About Tim and Abbie Clark - Owners

We both love to scuba dive and snorkel, and Hawaii has some of the best areas to do just that. Which is why we picked this house. We want other people around the world to enjoy what we have discovered here in Hawaii and enjoy it, and our home, as much as we do.

Tim and Abbie Clark - Owners purchased this house in 2001

Why Tim and Abbie Clark - Owners chose Kona Coast

When we were looking for homes on the Big Island, this one stood out from the others we looked at. The location was perfect, not to far away from Kona and the beaches, but still has that country feel and the privacy that we were looking for.

We were getting tired of the hotel scene, too many people, too much noise and just not the privacy that we were looking for when we vacation. We wanted more of a home feel where we knew we could relax and recharge. And that is exactly what we found here. We know that you will feel the same way the minute you walk in.

The layout of the home and the size of the rooms just had the 'Wow' factor we were looking for. That's actually what we said as soon as we walked in was, 'WOW', so we knew it was for us. We know that you will feel the same way when you walk thru front entry door.

We feel at home here, after a long day exploring all that Hawaii has to offer. We love to scuba dive and snorkel, and we are just minutes away from some of the best diving and snorkel sites. And the when you come home there is plenty of room for everyone to relax and hang out, and the pool and hot tub are just the thing to have to make the end of the day great, while watching the sun set over the ocean, which is always so spectacular to see. Truly Paradise!!

What makes this house unique

The location of the home is perfect! Only a short drive (7-8 minutes) to wonderful pristine waters to snorkel, swim and kayak and in the same amount of time will find grocery, fruit stands, gas, and restaurants. Personally, we have enjoyed the peaceful quality of the neighborhood and home as a sanctuary, far from the busy-ness of the world yet convenient enough to hop in the car to pick up take-out, a movie or even an afternoon latte.

A beautiful home surrounded by a secluded tropical garden with a pool and hot tub

  • 5 of 5

The house is large and spacious and was just perfect for our 9 member multi generational family, ages 13 to 85. The owner Tim was a pleasure to deal with. The house was well situated for our children and grandchildren to take day trips to Mauna Kea and the Volcanoes National Park. They also rented kayaks to snorkel in Kealakekua Bay near by on the Kona coast. On those day, my wife and I were very happy to spend time enjoying the house and garden and snorkeling in afternoon at the nearby Two Step Beach which we were told was one of the best snorkeling sites on the island. We loved our time spent on the lanai watching sunsets with the family and listening to the symphony of sounds of the birds by day and the frogs and crickets by night. We did visit the close by supermarket, the Choice Mart, for supplies but the children were quick to discover all the inexpensive restaurants within 15 minutes drive with take out food. They brought food back from Da Poke Shack, Kaaloa’s Super J’s, Keoki’s Ono Fish N Chips, Patz Pies among others, so we had most meals on the lanai. We did go to Teshima’s one night and the Coffee Shack one morning for breakfast. We will have great memories of time we spent together in the pool and lounging on the deck. We could not have found a more perfect place to celebrate my wife’s and my 50th anniversary and my 85th birthday. The house and location exceeded our expectations and we would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family and we hope to be able to revisit this beautiful home in Captain Cook some time in the future.

Exceptional accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time during our stay at this property. It was amazingly well-maintained, inside and out. We were welcomed by a fruit basket, banana bread, cold drinks, and coffee. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc., and we cooked every night so that we could enjoy the sunsets from the lanai. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and great snorkeling at nearby Two Step Beach. The geckos were a hit with our toddler, and we enjoyed the sounds of nature (frogs, crickets) lulling us to sleep at night. Tim was very friendly during booking and helpful during our stay. Would highly recommend!

Awesome secluded tropical rain forest getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were initially attracted by the pool and hot-tub and they did not disappoint. What surprised us was how secluded the property felt. We felt a bit like we were camping in the rain forest. The birds during the day and the frogs and crickets at night were mostly all we heard. We met only one friendly neighbor - otherwise no interactions with anyone - which added to the the private/secluded experience.

Another surprise for us was how well stocked the house was - we did not need to buy toilet paper or garbage bags. There was a lovely fruit basket left for us as well. There is a market called Choice Mart a few minutes away that was a full inventory and reasonably priced (at least compared to San Diego) supermarket that met our needs for our stay.

The house is large and spacious, especially for a rather small party like ours (we had 4 people), however the layout of the house - with the central kitchen, living space on either side, and bedrooms surrounding - gave the place a comfortable feel. Spacious but not too big.

We spent a lot of time down at the pool/hot-tub area. Because the property is at elevation, it gets cools enough at night in May to use the hot-tub. The coast and beaches are still only a few miles away. We did drive down to the beach one day during our trip, but we really enjoyed hanging out on the property. We felt like we had the best of both worlds.

My interactions with the owner were all very pleasant. He communicated clearly, the place was better than advertised, and there were no unhappy surprises.

We had a great experience and would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family.

No More Hotels This is The Way To Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of eight really enjoyed our 10 night stay at this property. There was ample free parking for all 4 rental cars onsite, unlike a hotel stay in Hawaii where parking is often a hassle and an extra charge. The house well more than large enough for everyone in our party, was well stocked, maintained and clean. We flipped a coin for bedrooms and settled in. We ate most breakfasts and quite a few dinners in the home. Grocery shopping was done about 20 minutes back in Kona at the Safeway. One person in our party really enjoys cooking so we put him to work on the outdoor barbecue for some great meals. We were on the road everyday taking in the local sights and activities. You do need a car on this Island if you want to explore and see everything. The home is located on a quiet street so you hardly hear a car on the road. We spent most evenings relaxing out on the outdoor furniture on the lanai or down at the saltwater pool and hot tub. We found that the mini fridge in the poolside Cabana was handy as we filled it with our favorite beer and didn't have to send someone up to the house for refills. The home face west so the sunsets are beautiful. The frogs do start up at dusk and go through the night until sun up. Their singing helped put everyone to sleep. If we come back to the Big Island we will definetly stay here again.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This home felt so comfortable and so spacious. There were six of us with plenty of room to spread out and have our own space. The house was spotless, even the lanai and the cabana, which are open to the air! The kitchen was well-equipped and had the little things that you don't like to have to buy, like spices and condiments. It was great having all the bathrooms so everyone had a place to shower without having to wait. We also really liked the grounds. They were beautifully maintained and we enjoyed seeing mongooses (I think that is what they were) and the geckos and hearing the birds, roosters and coqui frogs. The frogs put us right to sleep! We tried some of what the island had to offer, like the volcano, a kayaking and snorkeling tour, and a surfing lesson. I highly recommend the Kona Boys for your water sport needs. We tried some of the local cuisine like laulau from Super J's and poke from Da Poke Shack. I also highly recommend breakfast at Big Rob's Bakery. It is where the locals go to eat breakfast, isn't nearly as crowded as the Coffee Shack, and has wonderful food and luscious pastries. In the evenings we broke out the poker cards and chips on their awesome poker table. My goal for our vacation was to relax and we were well able to do that in this house. We would definitely come here again.
