About the property

Lake Home, 5 Bedrooms Including Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

We have been going 'up north' to stay at our summer home for over 30 years to getaway from everything! We celebrate every minute at the cottage we fondly call 'Camp Cruddy' and enjoy the white sandy beach, warm shallow waters of the grand traverse bay, fresh smell of pine, waking up and going to bed listening to the waves, listening to all the birds, discovering nature studies/wildlife on hikes in the woods, hunting for petoskey stones, sharing BBQ's, sipping local wines, watching the sunsets, walking the beach for miles and enjoying a beach fire with smores. It's our favorite getaway spot and we hope you enjoy our new summer home as much as we do.

Our beautiful 2 story contemporary lakefront home has a wide open floor plan perfect for relaxing and enjoying panoramic views of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay from the great room with a gas fireplace, casablanca fans and leather couches. The gourmet kitchen is large and bright with high end appliances. You can grab a bite at the kitchen bar area or catch dinner at the long pine dining room table. We usually eat all our meals outside under the covered patio deck or 2 large outdoor decks with built in benches and plenty of chairs to take in the spectacular view.

Our summer beach home has a master bedroom downstairs with a walk-in closet and full master bath attached including a separate shower and spa tub. There are 3 more bedrooms upstairs with a queen, full and twin beds. We often stay upstairs in the 2nd master bedroom which has a full slider and view of the bay along with a balcony to sit and savor a morning coffee or sunset glass of wine. Our kids love staying in the dormer/loft which is a great place to place games, read a book or watch a movie.

We have a large private lot over 300 feet deep with hugh pines and lots of places to getaway and enjoy being surrounded by nature and the beach and waves of the bay. Our 100 ft of private beach front leads directly into the sandy bottom swimming, warm clear shallow waters of the bay and you can explore the shoreline hunting for lucky petoskey stones or shells for miles.

About Greg Chadwell

We are a Michigan family and MSU alumni. Our son and daughter are now in college at USF and Santa Clara University. We relocated to Northern California to be closer to elderly family and try to get back to visit our beautiful home on grand traverse bay for family vacations. We hope to retire and live 'Up North' enjoying the four seasons and traveling.

Greg Chadwell purchased this house in 1975

Why Greg Chadwell chose USA

Being 'Up North' is a way of life we celebrate as a family and the original cottage on our lot was a small one bedroom A-frame with a loft that was the perfect place for our kids to spend the summer on lake michigan creating memories. We called the old cottage 'Camp Cruddy' and kept the sign when we built our new custom summer home to share with our family and friends.

What makes this house unique

We have lived in the east, west and in between and always love to visit our home on the bay.

Truly a hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

My family just got back from an amazing week at "Camp Cruddy." I have been going "Up North" since I was a child but had never stayed in Elk Rapids. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It is an amazing location. Traverse City is a short drive south and Charlevoix and Petoskey is a short drive north. The best part don't have to do any of that as the house and location is already perfect! Everything can be found in Elk Rapids! Also, Torch Lake (one of the most beautiful on earth) is within 10 minutes if you want to spend a day there on a pontoon as we did.

All in all we could not have asked for a better place...fully stocked kitchen, ample space, amazing view of Grand Traverse Bay, etc, etc, etc! I could go on forever...we cannot wait to stay here again!

Excellent family vacation destination

  • 5 of 5

My entire family enjoyed a wonderful week at Camp Cruddy. The property is a perfect place for a great vacation. The house was immaculate and well stocked with cleaning and paper products. The rooms were well appointed with comfortable beds, a great kitchen full of dishes, pots, pans, silverware...everything you would need to cook, just bring the food! The beach was lovely and private, with a fire pit for nightly campfires! The decks had plenty of chairs and a table to enjoy outdoor dining.

Our grandchildren loved playing on the beach, searching for 'petosky' stones and swimming in the pristine water! The two paddleboards provided by the owners were a huge hit with everyone!

Camp Cruddy exceeded all of our expectations. It is simply a perfect place to relax. The nearby town of Elk Rapids had some nice restaurants and a beautiful public beach and playground. There are so many wonderful places to visit nearby if you want to get a true taste of northern Michigan.

The owners were responsive and helpful from start to finish.

For a little piece of 'heaven' do not hesitate to visit Camp Cruddy. We loved our week there and hope to visit again!

Fussy wife

  • 5 of 5

The home is large and very well equipped. EVERYTHING that was needed with the exception of a few personal items was provided. The description was accurate and the pictures well depicted the home. What could not be shown were all the unexpected amenities.I have very high standards regarding cleanliness and this house met mine. The owners were very helpful and answered all my frequent questions immediately. I loved the location which was central to tourist attractions both north and south. The property exceeded our expectations and I would highly recommend it. Enjoy!!!!
