About L.C. Mellenger

We have been on the property since the early '90's, & created Chanticleer in 1996 and have never looked back, what an unexpected gift it has been! You can read about the building and restoring of the log cabin on our site.

Not only does our cabin keep us busy, L.C. spends time flying his small plane (RV-6) from the Spicewood Airport (88R) and working on whatever current project (building Hot rods etc.).

Both of us like to travel, Mallonee enjoys the time off from her work . At home we have two miniature donkeys and chickens to keep us rural.

We strive to bring special touches to our B&B, to make your visit a relaxing and memorable one.

L.C. Mellenger purchased this cabin in 1996

What makes this cabin unique

The tranquility of a rural setting on 26 acres, surrounded by wildlife, is a treat. Add to that a screened porch with fireplace and marshmallows for roasting and a cabin furnished with comfort in mind. Homemade chocolate chip cookies and homemade granola, watching the hummingbirds, and bedding of crisp, line-dried linens is the icing on the cake.

Our trademark: line-dried linens, homemade chocolate chip cookies and homemade granola.

We love to stay at Chanticleer. We have enjoyed several stays and always look forward to going back. The cabin keepers create a very peaceful atmosphere. There is much wildlife to enjoy and we can't wait for our next visit!!

Pictures don't do it justice

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin in early Nov and besides the bad weather, it was perfect. The pictures just don't do it justice. We were surrounded by Texas wildlife and an incredible view. L.C. and Mallonee where the perfect hosts. We cant wait to get back in the spring time.

Relaxing stay at a charming cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Dal Nonna cabin for our first anniversary. The cabin had everything we needed, and we loved how secluded and peaceful it was. The location is great too, just a few minutes from the beautiful Krause Springs and several wineries. I would definitely recommend this cabin!

little slice of heaven !!

  • 5 of 5

This property is one you don't want to pass up......I stayed here for my birthday and treated myself to a little retreat of relaxation, rejuvenation and reconnecting....and it was more than I could of hoped for !!

The property if just amazing with all of nature surrounding you...even donkeys and chickens....who were so quiet I hardly knew they were there except when I went to feed them a snack. Its a quiet, calming getaway that is filled to the brim with beauty and I highly recommend it !

Mallonee and LC are the best of hosts and always available for your every need, if you even have one...and make you feel like it's your very own special "slice of heaven" !!

Peaceful and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in Villa Celeste. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and well-stocked. The swimming pool was cold and refreshing after sunning on the deck. We also enjoyed the hot tub! L.C. and Mallonee were very friendly and helpful. We will be back!!

Perfect Couple's Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the Chanticleer Cabin for our anniversary weekend, and it was absolutely fabulous! It was just the tiniest bit tricky to find, but that makes it feel even more like Grandma’s cabin in the woods. When we pulled up, I immediately felt all of the city melt away. We didn’t even go right in, we spent the first few minutes just sitting on the large front porch enjoying the view. The cabin itself was more than I expected. It’s not a luxury hotel, but you certainly do not go without. Be warned, it is not for the bashful. The bathroom area is also the kitchen area, but that hardly spoiled the serene feeling we had. There really isn’t a quick way to any large stores, so bring what you think you need. Although, the Mellenger’s make sure you are well taken care of. We had the pleasure of meeting L.C. but that was only because he stopped by one morning to feed the donkeys. Had we not been on the porch enjoying our camp-style breakfast and walked out to meet him at the pen, the lovely owners would have left us completely to ourselves. I HIGHLY recommend staying at the Chanticleer Cabin, just not on a weekend I want to stay again. =) I will be back for the total silence and the pitch black, star-filled nights.
