We retired to our home state of Colorado after 27 years in the military. Since our retirement we have been foster parents, a Colorado State Park Ranger, a real estate agent and self employed. Our retirement became so busy we needed a place to retire from retirement. The Mountain Haven was the answer.
Julia & Dennis purchased this house in 2012
We purchased this property to have a mountain escape. We searched several areas and looked at many properties. This home had all the necessities we were looking for; quiet and beautiful surroundings, easy access to lake and river fishing, historical sight seeing, and nearby winter sports. It offers the serenity that we enjoy and we hope it provides others the same.
Enjoy the fire pit in the trees and the mountain views and hummingbirds from the porch. Play a game or two of horseshoes among the pine trees. Wake up in the morning and see the mountains from the lofted bedroom. Enjoy the history of South Park by visiting Fairplay and the surrounding country side. Spend a day at one of the two nearby hot springs or go rafting only 15 miles away. Fish Antero Reservoir, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Spinney Mountain Reservoir and the Arkansas River. Visit the historical town of Leadville. Visit historic Cripple Creek. Enjoy the many nearby hiking trails. Enjoy winter sports from sledding outside the door to skiing at Breckenridge or Monarch Pass.
We enjoyed several days here. It is in a quiet neighborhood, never saw many people. The house is spacious and has everything you need. The washer and dryer were great for a busy family. Detergent and dryer sheets are provided by the way! Many extras are here--condiments, games, movies, etc. Huge windows with great views. We enjoyed Hummingbird, deer and chipmunk visits each day! The bunkhouse is a great extra for teens. We spent our time riding ATV trails, exploring Buena Vista, St. Elmo and white water rafting. Great place, reasonable price.
The pics on line do not do this property justice. It's much more beautiful & very homey. It's located in a small rural subdivision of only a few homes. It has a very private feel as the neighbors are not close by. Inside the home, There's a lot of folk art, custom pieces, antiques & you'll feel relaxed the moment you step in.
When I booked last minute, I cringed at the $60 service fee ...as I'd never paid a cleaning fee, pet fee, service fee & a refundable $200 deposit. I wondered why the extra fee on top of all the rest. It seemed excessive.
-honestly I was not expecting a lot. However, When I got there, I was like wow! Everything was exceptionally clean. There were Many details such as condiments & snack foods provided. There was pasta, coffee, tea, rice & much more. Detergent & dryer sheets are provided as well. I think if this were mentioned in the listing, this place would be booked a year in advance. One thing we hate as renters is running back & forth to the store. You'll never have to worry about that here.
The Windows & window seating are grand! I love the easy window blinds.
I took along my blue tooth speaker & my classical music was perfectly at home in these high ceilings.
(We had just spent 9 nights at another Buena Vista property close to cottonwood springs. While the interior was beautiful, the exterior was not & was right on the busy highway)
~This beautiful A frame is beautiful inside & out. There is no highway in sight & very little traffic.
We took our dog Lakota on this trip and the moment we arrived, he was happy and relaxed for the first time since we had left home. It rained a bit but we still enjoyed 2 fires in the fantastic in ground fire pit up the hill. There are a lot of games etc in the loft that we did not use as we had no young children on this trip. There is also a mini sleeping cabin perfect for a couple of young boys.
We enjoyed walks around the property, reading & relaxing (we rarely relax on a vacation). I would definitely recommend this property to friends, family or a business associate. This was a great way to end our Colorado vacation. The weather is very mild at this altitude & location 9500 ft or so
There is a trash compactor which we did not use--but no dish washer.
Theres everything you need as far as cooking utensils, pans & storage containers. There are tons of towels, full sized shampoo, conditioner, body lotion & shower gel. There were even razors, shave cream, tooth paste etc. Loved it❤
If you're looking to get away from the city, but still want some amenities like a grocery store near by (20 minute or so drive), this is your place. Amazing property that will keep kids busy for hours while adults can relax. Beautiful views. We will be back!
We had a great time in the heart of the rockies with all that it has to offer. When it came time to relax at the rental, the home was well equipped and very comfortable. Highly recommend and will be back!
We needed a quick get-a-way and this was perfect! We spent an evening at Mount Princeton Hot Springs (only about 21 miles away), played games, and just relaxed. Everything that we needed was available and we felt right at home. Dennis and Julia - thanks for sharing!
My daughter and I have stayed in this lovely cabin twice for a mother/daughter hiking weekend (with our dogs.) The location is wonderful: near lots of great trails, but also not ridiculously far from restaurants, shopping, etc. The house is well-equipped and maintained, comfortable, and welcoming. My husband and I are now thinking of renting it for a week. Highly recommended.
We are centrally located to many year round outdoor activities. Buena Vista is 17 miles. Mount Princeton and Cottonwood Hot Springs are a 30 minute drive away. Breckenridge, Monarch and Ski Cooper Ski Resorts are approximately an hours drive. Hiking and ATV trails only a 1 1/2 miles down the road. The drive to Cripple Creeks takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. Several rafting companies are less that a 30 minute drive. Buena Vista, Salida, Fairplay and Leadville offer great food, museums, entertainment, shopping and history.
