About Julia & Dennis

We retired to our home state of Colorado after 27 years in the military. Since our retirement we have been foster parents, a Colorado State Park Ranger, a real estate agent and self employed. Our retirement became so busy we needed a place to retire from retirement. The Mountain Haven was the answer.

Julia & Dennis purchased this house in 2012

Why Julia & Dennis chose Hartsel

We purchased this property to have a mountain escape. We searched several areas and looked at many properties. This home had all the necessities we were looking for; quiet and beautiful surroundings, easy access to lake and river fishing, historical sight seeing, and nearby winter sports. It offers the serenity that we enjoy and we hope it provides others the same.

What makes this house unique

Enjoy the fire pit in the trees and the mountain views and hummingbirds from the porch. Play a game or two of horseshoes among the pine trees. Wake up in the morning and see the mountains from the lofted bedroom. Enjoy the history of South Park by visiting Fairplay and the surrounding country side. Spend a day at one of the two nearby hot springs or go rafting only 15 miles away. Fish Antero Reservoir, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Spinney Mountain Reservoir and the Arkansas River. Visit the historical town of Leadville. Visit historic Cripple Creek. Enjoy the many nearby hiking trails. Enjoy winter sports from sledding outside the door to skiing at Breckenridge or Monarch Pass.

Spectacular views

The sunrise every morning was phenomenal! We also loved the mountain view. The hummingbirds and chipmunks were also a delight. This was our third year to stay here and it just feels like home.

Nice and cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my stay at the cabin. I have have stayed in other cabins which were closer to mountain resorts, but this one was nice because of how remote it was. We were literally off the grid. We barely had service, the WiFi was limited, but still worked for directions and finding things to do. It was nice to finally feel disconnected. We went to the hot springs in Mt Princeton, which was about a 30 minute drive, but so worth it after a long day of skiing. I loved the coziness of the House. They really made it feel like it was your home and we kept find really interesting decorations around the house that were neat and added to the cabin feel. My personal favorite was the fireplace. I felt so accomplished whenever we got that thing going, watching the flames rise and feeling the natural heat was amazing. The outside of the house had a beautiful views of all of the surrounding mountains. This cabin was absolutely gorgeous and my family and I enjoyed our stay. Thank you for making us so comfortable in your home.

Extremely happy with our cabin pick!

  • 5 of 5

Loved waking up to watch the sunrise even if it was only 45°

Nice hot coffee and a warm blanket fixed that.

Had fun watching the hummingbirds, and chipmunks saw a few deer on our walks.

Home was wonderful, cooked a few meals here. Always at the end of the day looked forward to being "home ".

Would stay again, it is a bit of a drive but worth it.

We visited Crested Butte, Salida &Buena Vista.

Wonderful mountain getaway!

My husband and daughter and I loved this house! It was in a great location for hiking in the Collegiates, was very clean, very well-stocked, and had a beautiful long-range mountain view. We truly felt at home here.
