Take me away Hiawassee River

  • 4 of 5

The house was not exactly what we were expecting but worked out for us. My sister and I invited a newly wed couple to join us. There is a downstairs bedroom with twin beds and an upstairs loft. The loft is nice but not completely private. The river is across the street with a beautiful view from the screened in balcony. This is where I would have been more than satisfied to spend my time. But I am glad I didn't. We visited one of the winerys and loved it. We had dinner at the Irish pub downtown (delicious and fun). Our friends spent one evening visiting the casino. While my sister and I sat on the balcony listening to the water. It was a great weekend get away and we are already planning for next year.

Peaceful and snug

  • 5 of 5

The sounds of the river, the wind in the trees, and the geese are wonderful to sit and listen to while reading on the porch. Things got a little louder on Monday when the world started back to work, but over the weekend was very nice. On Sunday, we had massive rains from Hurricane Nate, and the sound of the rain on the roof kept putting us back to sleep. The cabin was clean and neat and had everything we could have needed in the kitchen and in terms of linen. We were there for the Folk School Fall Festival, and this location was very convenient for that. We had a wonderful time.

Location was not as expected

  • 3 of 5

The house was lovely, clean, and well appointed. However, we went to fish and the property was not actually on the water. It had access, but the water access was across the street on the owner's personal property.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that these renters were misled by our next door neighbors. They told them not to fish on their private property and that next to them was the owners "private property". Our home, including the rental cabin is on one lot and river access is available. In fact, we even have a stone patio and steps leading into the river for renters to use. The cabin sits about 40 yards from the river and the "street" is a private, dead end, one lane road more like a driveway, for private use only. If the renters had asked us they would have been told "fish to your hearts content".

Beautiful well equipped cabin hosted by wonderful people.

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a better site. The cabin is equipped with everything you could asked for and many items I didn't know to ask for. Great to sit on the porch and watch the river and listen to the geese..

This was our dog's first vacation and he had a wonderful time.

My husband tried fishing in the river with little success but went with a guide and did very well. There many activities in the area and our hosts, George and CW , were great at letting us know and the happenings in the area.--GREAT music.

We had booked 2 weeks and then got caught in Irma's arrival. Fortunately the cabin and was available and our hosts were so accommodating in letting us wait out the storm while Irma took her toll on our Florida home.

Don't miss an opportunity to stay.

We will definitely be back next year.

Perfect vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family, including teenage daughter and two dogs, and I stay in that cabin and really like it. Cabin is very cozy, very clean and very well organized ( hope other cabin owners will not be mad at me). Everything is ready to go there and we had all we can think of to make living there easy. Our gods also like to place and fenced yard is very convenient. River is just next to you and very relaxing. Thank you George!

Things to do: Murphy has cute little downtown, Franklin nice gem and jewelry store, and also road to Franklin going thru high elevation, the folk school has a big field where dogs can run a little, and Chunky Gal Stables is the best place to for horseback riding.

Wonderful cabin, beautiful river, great location!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is even better than advertised; the pictures do not do it justice! The cabin itself is beautiful and has everything you could need including a fully-outfitted kitchen, tv with Directv and super comfy bed and couches. We loved grilling out and then eating on the screened porch where we could see and hear the river. Also, it was invaluable to us that we were able to bring our dog. This is such a great feature for those of us who consider our dogs family. She had the best time playing in the river and sunning herself on the beach. (So did we!) The street is very quiet and private but it's only a few minutes from downtown Murphy with its restaurants and antique stores. Such a cute little town; we visited the brewery twice. There's an Ingles and a Walmart close by too for any grocery needs. Also, everyone in town was so nice and friendly and helpful. This includes George; he was wonderful. He made sure that we had everything we needed and gave some great suggestions on things to do and places to eat and made sure that we knew he was available if we needed anything... but then gave us our space to relax and enjoy our vacation. We fell in love with Murphy and with the cabin and plan to definitely return soon. You will not be disappointed if you book this! Highly recommend!
