Purchased the land in 2008.
We live in Maryland but have been vacationing there for years.
Spent a lot of time driving through the northwest
years ago. We restored the cabin from the ground up at the
other end of the ranch and started renting it out. Things worked
out well as far as renting it and vacationing there ourselfs and would drive by the spot the new
home sits on and was amazed at the beautiful views and instead of putting a bench there to sit on and look out ,thought we would
build something a little more comfortable there so we could enjoy it and others could as well. It made it easier, having a friend and caretaker
in the area who is also an excellent cabinet maker to help with it.
It also would be great for large groups or weddings or
commercial shoots having both places. We have had weddings at the cabin and people were always looking for other places
I have travelled all over the country for years and
the northwest is my favorite. People scenery and mindset.
I have tried to make the rental experience like renting from your brother,
the nice one. and it has worked out well. It also helped having
a friend who is also the care taker and an excellent custom
cabinet maker and contractor living 1/4 mile up the road.
Definatlly The Last Best Place
Fred Goldsmith purchased this house in 2013
The one thing that sets this apart is the view and deck. When I
was building the deck I may have gotten a little carried away.
An extra foot here, extra foot there. It ended up to be a
2800 sq. ft. full wrap around and the views are amazing.
Ourt golfing froup loved the place. Although it is a little off the road what a wonderful place to relax and well worth the few minutes longer to get there.
My family, 9 of us in all, stayed for 5 days in this gorgeous house. It was so spacious, beautiful and very clean. When we walked in the front door it had that new house smell. It was better then described. There was plenty of room for all of us. My middle son, his wife and our three granddaughters along with our youngest son, occupied the downstairs. My husband, myself and our oldest son were upstairs. What was especially nice was that everyone had there own bathroom, the girls and our youngest son had to share, but that's what happens when you are outranked. My three young granddaughters particularly loved going down to the little river behind the house to try their hand at fishing. They did not catch anything but enjoyed the experience. They also enjoyed the grass in the back, the baby calves across the street, and the deer we would see at night across the fields. Even though the neighbors were within sight, being at the house and sitting on the deck made you feel like you were in your own little world. It was so peaceful. My favorite time of the day was the mornings, just sitting with my coffee on that beautiful wrap around deck. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need. Even though the dinning room table was beautiful and large enough for everyone, we enjoyed eating most of our meals out on the deck and we used the grill a lot. The house is a short drive into town but it was a nice drive.
The owner and property manager were wonderful. Kirk the property manager came by several times to see how things were. He was very friendly and great to talk with. Fred, the owner, called to see if everything was fine and he was very friendly also.
We had a wonderful time. I have rented from Home Away for a number of years and this was one of the best houses we have every stayed in. I would recommend it highly. My family and I would loved to come back next time we are in Montana. Thank you very much.
Montana was our family choice for vacation in 2015 with Glacier National Park and the surrounding area as our destination. We stumbled on this house rental and it is everything anyone could ask for and more. There were 10 of us in total with bedrooms to accommodate all. The house is amazing - beautiful kitchen with all the supplies you could ask for. The dining room table sat everyone comfortably as we shared many a meal all together. The younger family members stayed downstairs and loved the mini kitchen and pool table. The wrap around deck was great with lots of seating, table, swing, grill and yes a hummingbird feeder which was an added plus as they are one of my favorite birds that we see only occasionally at home. The men fished with much success, some played "Corn Hole", we walked to the nearby dairy for eggs and milk and mostly just enjoyed the wonderful weather and beautiful sunrises and sunsets overlooking the fields. Glacier National Park was so much fun - loved the Red Bus, hiking, sightseeing, Grizzly Bear sighting and so much more .... the town of Whitefish is just a short drive - good restaurants, shopping and other attractions close by. When the week was complete there was not one person who wanted to return home.....Would love to come back again and would definitely return to this wonderful vacation rental. Thanks so much Fred for being so helpful in making our stay so comfortable....a great family get away.
The pictures do not do this property justice. It is absolutely beautiful inside and out. We have rented several properties through Home Away and have never found the homes to more than meet our expectations until we arrived at this one. If you plan to cook your meals, you will find the kitchen has almost every utensil, pot, pan or dish you might need. The beds are very comfortable and the family areas on the main and lower floors allow separation when you want it. Although it was the end of September, the weather allowed us to really enjoy the deck surrounding the house. We watched the animal life (beaver, deer, turkeys and a red fox) for hours. There were so many activities close by that we quickly ran out of time. The owner and his friend who lives just down the road are very accommodating. You won't go wrong renting this home.
We just got back from a wonderful stay at the house and it could not have been more perfect. We hosted a large BBQ and wedding ceremony the next day for 60 people on the balcony and it was everything we could have hoped for! Fred was gracious, friendly, accommodating and helpful. The house was amazing and had ample room for our guests to enjoy the HUGE, BEAUTIFUL balcony. The men had a great time taking turns fishing in the pond out back and we loved waking up to the sound of birds on the water. All our guests expressed an interest in coming back to Whitefish and renting the house for family vacations in the future. We will definitely be back! It was just perfect for our needs and fully stocked with all the kitchen dishes you could need.
Wow.. What a spot. We were a fairly large group and this spot more than met all of our expectations. The space itself is simply fantastic. Large and accommodating, yet cozy. Close enough to either Whitefish or Kalispell for convenience, yet remote enough to afford privacy and leisure. Only let down was that we were there is the winter and not in the warmer months to enjoy the incredible wrap around deck and surreal natural setting.
A unanimous hit. Thanks Fred
River Meadow Ranch is situated close to town yet
secluded. An elk farm sits just up the road and you
can see them from the front deck sometimes.
Surrounded on 2 sides by approx. 800 acres of open land with cattle at times and a few horseback riders sometimes.
Big Mountain and Blacktail ski resort are seen from the deck. Walk out back, fish and catch pike with rods provided. 360 degree views of mountains from the 2800 sq. ft. full wraparound deck.
Short drive to Costco, Wallmart, In Kalispell. 10 min to grocery stores in Whitefish. Best caterer in the valley 10 min. away.
Horseback riding close by . Easy access to town via very scenic
drive or scenic drive. Close to quiet lake rarely used by tourists with restrooms and camping sites. Horses all around. Watch the eagle across the river on top of the pines. Play horse shoes.
