Caressed by ocean breezes. Lulled by gentle waves. Ever-changing skies with spectacular clouds, glorious sunrises, multitudes of stars. Away from the bustle of town in a small beachfront residential community. Surrounded by peace and tranquility. Original art, sculpture pieces, oriental carpets. Luxury touches at a very affordable price. Secure WiFi broadband internet connection throughout the house.
The best snorkeling in East Hawaii is just a few steps away at the Wai 'Opae Marine Sanctuary. Reefs break the waves beyond the tide pools so even small children can float in the calm waters and see the multitude of colorful tropic fish.
It is the perfect spot for a few days or a long term stay.
The house is up on stilts with all living areas on the second floor, accessible by stairs. You can relax outdoors on the lanai gathering area or sit in the living room and enjoy the fresh salt air through the two french doors that open the living room to the lanai. The private garden below has fragrant Plumeria, bananas and pineapple.
Both bedrooms also face the ocean. The master bedroom with a queen bed opens on to the enclosed end of the lanai and features an outdoor shower accessible from the lanai or from the bedroom. It also has a private bath with a classic claw-foot tub and laundry facilities (full size washer and dryer), and a walk in closet. The loveseat in the master bedroom unfolds to a double foam bed. The second bedroom has a double bed and is across from the hall bath with stall shower.
The kitchen features a gas stove and includes all needed for preparing family meals, simple to elaborate.
The dining table can be expanded to seat 6.
Every room has a fan, cross ventilation and guide lights for comfort and safety.

We love to snorkel and watch the fishes, and Wai 'Opae is one of the best sites on the Island, certainly the best in E. Hawaii.
The sound of the breakers and the sea breezes are primo for relaxing and soothing the spirit. The outdoor shower is another amenity that provides an entrancing evening experience.
It's always hard to leave every time we go to Kahi Ko 'Ola Uhane.

Aloha David & Nancy,
My sons and I had a wonderful 6 days at your Kahi Ko 'Ola Uhane. You have thought of everything anyone could possibly need here and more!
We loved the tidepools, coral gardens, Champagne pond and the little town of Pahoa.
We will miss the cute geckos that live behind the mirror and dreser that come out to visit. We will let all our friends know how lovely your place is.
Mahalo, we had and Ono time!

GREAT HOME. WELL EQUIPPED! Peaceful little community, completely walkable. Beach a block away with some of the best snorkeling ever!! Fragrant jasmine bush in the front yard. TOTALLY COMFORTABLE BEDS!
The OUTDOOR SHOWER was a GREAT TREAT, we used it exclusively, big shower head, nice hot water!!! Large expansive deck, perfect for a family or adults. GREAT LOCATION ON THE ISLAND. Perfect to hang out and relax or adventure out and come back to rejuvenate. LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO ALANUI HOT PONDS. I cannot say enough about what a great value this property is, the owners were available and helpful and our stay was
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! A HOME WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED, WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!
This home is so beautiful! My sister and I stayed here for 4 nights and it was just perfect. When we arrived, there were fresh exotic flowers in every room. The house is walking distance to the tidepools and fully stocked with all the snorkel equipment, water shoes and beach towels you might need. There are houses on both sides, but the foliage is so thick, you truly feel private and secluded. The weather was just wonderful! Rain every night and again in the early morning, but clearing up to beautiful days. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony with our coffee each day during the morning rain and enjoying the view of the lush backyard with the ocean peeking through the trees. The outdoor shower was my favorite thing! So relaxing and refreshing! David was a pleasure to work with, very attentive but not intrusive. Pahoa is a short drive away and has several little restaurants as well as a decent grocery store and Longs Drugs for anything you might need. If you're considering renting this home, do it! It is an incredible value. The only potential con (depending on your situation) is the stairs. The home is built on stilts, so to speak, so it is necessary to walk up/down a full flight of stairs every time you come and go. This was no problem at all for my sister or I. However, if you have mobility restrictions, this may be an issue.
Renewed spirit, indeed! This lovely home is comfortable, endearing, and located in a lush, well-kept neighborhood. We loved going for morning and evening walks, hopping around the lava rocks and marveling at the beauty of the tidepools.
Sunrise over the tidepools was one of the most glorious sights I've ever seen.
I fell in love with the sweet shy geckos that hang out here and there. One morning I thoughtfully pondered them, and googled all about geckos (the Internet is good here) while I drank local coffee from Hilo farmers market. (french press is in the cupboard). Great way to de-stress from the daily grind. :)
The location of this home is well situated for exploring the east side of the big island. We also found several amazing farmers markets within 45 minutes from home base. We ate green papaya salad everywhere we went, so delicious! The very best was at the Sunday farmers market in Pahoa. It was made one salad at a time by a wonderful lady. Locals travel for miles just to get her green papaya salad, and as we all stood in a long but fairly quick line, we got to know one another, chatting, while all eyes were watching the harmony and precision of the salad preparations. It was worth the wait, I got 1+ spicy and it was TDF delicious!
This was exactly what we needed, a great, beautiful, comfy spot to chill, on the days we felt like lazing about enjoying the immediate beauty, and a great home base for our island excursions.
Mahalo, David and Nancy, for sharing and hosting this amazing place!

From the moment we walked in to find the many floral arrangements, one in each and every room, we felt the welcoming aloha spirit. It was a perfect location from which to explore the many wonders of the Big Island. The tidal pools are a short walk away. Imagine enjoying a relaxing outdoor shower in the moonlight by just stepping out the door of your master bedroom. The house is located not too far from Pahoa, and about 45 minutes from Hilo. We have no problem in recommending this vacation home to other travellers.
David was an accommodating host quickly responding to any request. The property is private and surrounded by beautiful rain forest plants. There were several fruit trees on the premises and we had 2 pineapples waiting for us when we arrived. The home was well stocked and clean. We were a stones throw from the tide pools and a few miles from the lava flow ( a must) . Local restaraunts and shops are a few miles away and Hilo is a half hour drive. Our favorite thing about the house was the lanai overlooking the beautiful backyard where you could listen to the waves and the coquis while watching the geckos play or viewing the amazing stars. Awesome place !
We spent a month at this property, and it was glorious! Great location, clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking in, and we also enjoyed grilling on the bar-b-que. David was delightful, and welcomed us with a house full of lovely tropical flowers! We showered exclusively in the out-door shower, and enjoyed the rainy times reading on the lanai. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Kahi Ko'Ola Uhane and we will definately be back! Mahalo David and Nancy!
