About the property

Secluded House, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Vacation at this secluded property offered by All Get Out Vacation Rentals!

Enjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 full baths, sleeping porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, hot tub, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout.

Listen to the sound of the babbling brook within 50 feet of the house while lounging in the sunroom or relaxing in the outdoor hot tub. In addition, the property has 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to explore). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest.

The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well appointed kitchen, wireless internet, 2 televisions with satellite TV and DVD players, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking. The sunroom has seating for dining or board games with a full view of the stream so you can enjoy the outdoors even in inclement weather. Enjoy year-round the six-person hot tub on the back deck overlooking the stream.

This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds with additional options of the living room pull-out and sun porch (the latter in warm months or for the polar bears in your group). There is a MBR w/ Queen; BR #2 w/ Queen, BR #3 w/ two sets of Twin bunks, Livingroom w/ Queen pull-out sofa, and (unheated) Sun Porch w/ a queen bed.

For fall or early spring visits, the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a modest amount of firewood is provided).

In winter months, be prepared for snowy and/or icy road conditions by driving a 4WD or suitable vehicle. Note that we are now requiring 4WD for winter rental. Having chains for your car in the trunk is another good option. It's advisable whenever driving in wintry conditions in the mountains of WV as the roads are often hazardous. At times the snow can be deep and it takes 24-48 hours before it is plowed, therefore you should be prepared to be flexible about travel.

The cabin is remote, so even in clear weather its narrow mountain gravel road can be concerning to those not experienced. Depending on whether the road crew has done repairs recently there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be a few on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. The gravel is not suitable for street motorcycles.

Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. Our other VRBO listing #317752 has a larger land buffer between the house and the moving water.

The river is about a 5 minute walk across the property from the house. There is no vehicular traffic allowed off the driveway.

Pet friendly -- dogs only please, and no more than two dogs per reservation unless owner exception is offered.

Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests.

Cleaning fee covers laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom/kitchen sanitizing, and garbage removal. Guests are expected to otherwise leave the house in the condition they found it.

We want to ensure that this property is the right fit for you! This is our vacation home that we are sharing – we are not a resort with a maintenance, concierge, and cleaning staff – and our prices reflect that limitation. That said we have put together as many resources as possible to help you plan your trip and enjoy your stay as if it were your own vacation home. We also have tried to stock the house so that you would not want for much upon your arrival.

If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot!

The road to the house is gravel, and depending on whether the road crew has repaired the road recently there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be one or two on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass.

Because the house is surrounded by forests, the creek, and the river, there is plenty of nature to enjoy but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set hidden traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay.

The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows, and cobwebs sprouting up here and there.

If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation!

About Larisa

Carl and Larisa got married and moved to Elkins, WV in 2000. Larisa moved from DC, and Carl moved from VA. Each had prior roots in WV and longed to return. They now live in Elkins just 20 minutes from the 'All Get Out' riverside vacation rentals.

Larisa purchased this house in 2001

Why Larisa chose West Virginia

The location is ideal -- just far enough out to be immersed in the natural surroundings, but only 25 minutes from a full-service grocery store, movie theater, Davis and Elkins College, Randolph County Community Arts Center, antique shopping, and a YMCA. It is an hour from highly-rated golf or skiing. Spring and summer bring wonderful fishing, swimming, floating, and boating in the river; winter is great for cross-country skiing on the property or nearby, and alpine skiing is less than an hour's drive. Fall's foliage is not to be missed as the house is engulfed in trees and adjacent to the 1 million acre Monogahela National Forest, wonderful for hiking right out your door. Don't miss nearby Elkins to dine at a variety of restaurants, enjoy free exhibits at the Community Arts Center, and ride the scenic trains on the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad. Davis and Elkins College is just 20 minutes away where you can enjoy live music and Appalachian arts at the internationally renowned 5-week long Augusta Festival. The Forest Festival every fall is a big draw, with carnival rides and almost two weeks of activities.

What makes this house unique

In 2001 Carl and Larisa were fortunate to have the opportunity to buy this lovely acreage on the banks of the Shavers Fork River from a family friend, just next door to the cabin they've owned since 1995 (VRBO #317752). Since that time they have made several improvements, while keeping the original character that the builder, a mill owner, had created in handmade wormy chestnut kitchen cabinets, exceptional stonework, and plank poplar paneling throughout. You can easily hear the creek flowing behind the house as the summer night breezes keep you cool.

A True Vacation Away from it All!

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to West Virginia before and didn't really know what to expect. First of all on a holiday weekend (Labor Day), the ride was beautiful and if you don't want to sit in traffic, this is the place to go! When we arrived, we loved it immediately. Our dogs loved running the property and being free to roam, swim and go on walks with us off-leash. They also loved the sleeping porch with the windows at their eye level. We thought about going places and seeing other things but enjoyed walking the property, hanging in the yard, the hot tub and just relaxing so much that we stayed put all week. Thanks for providing such a great house with everything you need right there! A peaceful, quiet and relaxing vacation. Just the way it's supposed to be. Get your food and drink supplies for the week and you are good to go. And thanks to Larisa for being so helpful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Relaxation in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for my fiancées 50th birthday to relax and unwind, also for some fly fishing. Probably not the best time of year for fly fishing, but we had a fantastic stay nonetheless. The property is amazing! Wide open spaces, beautiful river, deer every morning, amazing starry skies at night, this was exactly the break we needed to recharge. House had everything we needed and was immaculate upon arrival. Owner was very pleasant and thorough, we will be back in the future...not soon enough!

Wonderful mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

Spent a weekend here with 3 kids ages 3-9 and our dog. Wish we could have stayed longer! The house was immaculate and met all of our needs. We needed to bring very little because the house was well stocked with blankets, kitchen items, towels, a dog cage, and even movies, toys, and books! The property provided hours of safe entertainment as we were able explore open fields, woods, and the river. We saw several deer and had amazing views. We drove to Elkins for dinner at CJMaggies and the Polar Express and it was a beautiful 15 minute drive. Don't judge a book by its cover because Bella's not only had great food but the people were so welcoming! We will absolutely be back!

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

The owner thought of everything. Her Instructions and directions were spot on. The cabin itself was exactly what I wanted: rustic, clean, comfortable, beautiful setting, and secluded. We enjoyed having a bonfire at night, walking to the river every morning, relaxing on the screened in porch, sitting and watching the deer and owls that would show up in the front field. The cabin is also at a great location, close to many parks and hiking trails, but yet not too far from town. We plan on returning again next year, perhaps when the rhododendrons are blooming.

The place to come to gather yourself from the mental destruction of the daily grind

  • 5 of 5

The little 5 minute walk to the river is absolutely necessary. Pack a picnic lunch before you go since hindsight is truly 20/20. This is not a large home but adequately stocked and comfortable. The back of the house provides complete privacy from the prying eyes of an OCCASIONAL vehicle on the main road that is every bit of 200 yards away. There a very, very small amount of traffic on a distant road but not bothersome at all.

The interior of the home is layed out nicely. The only 2 things the next occupant needs to be aware of is the shower in the hall bathroom is very small. Not for large framed folks. And the cook stove in the kitchen is gas. Start out on low heat and increase it gradually.

The back room of the house has a bedroom and a breakfast table. Windows from the floor to the ceiling. Nice! One member of our party slept there and proclaimed it as the best nights' rest she has ever had. Attributed the sound of the water to that. If one has an enormous and active imagination, this is NOT the room for you.

Plenty of deer, owls and other wildlife will make their appearance in the evenings and throughout the day. The sound of the water cleanses your soul.

If I could change one thing it would be to change the checkout time from 10:00 to 11:00 or 12:00. You are pushing it to get packed up and loaded by the current checkout time. Would definitely stay here again
