Spacious Two Bedroom/One Bathroom 1000 sqr. ft. lower half of house on one acre. On southern edge of Escondido, next to huge park, close to agricultural reserve, yet 1 mile from Westfield Mall and Freeway. Fully equipped kitchen, Private Patio, Bike Shed, Spa, Pool. A note on the pool, it is surrounded by shade trees, which means that a certain amount of plant matter, leaves and twigs will blow into it. We make every effort to keep it clean, but it is a country pool.

Owner is avid cyclist who will point you to the great road and mountain biking in the area. The Palomar Mountain stage of the Tour of California ran right past the property. In addition there are many other great rides of all lengths at your doorstep. There are also many miles of mountain biking available from the back gate as well as Daley Ranch 10 minutes drive away. Other outdoor activities include hiking, kayaking, golfing, lounging in the sun and all the activities found in San Diego.

Local wineries and Stone Brewery as well as quaint Grand Ave with unique restaurants, pubs and wine bars are as close as 5 minutes away.

The world famous Safari park, an extension of the San Diego Zoo is a 10 min drive through beautiful countryside. It’s a 20 mile drive to the airport, Balboa Park and the zoo as well local beaches. Lego land, Sea World, Old Town and downtown San Diego are a 30 min drive.

Amazing home large and comfortable

We really enjoy this home just enough space for my family and I. The owner Jim was very accommodating and super friendly. If we come back to San Diego we will definitely stay here again. We will definitely recommend this home to all who wish to stay here.

unclean, weeds, back gate entrance, junk laying around outside, mosquitoes, holes in the ceiling showing the space between the rental and the upstairs where the owner lives, couch filthy, dead grass, sheets and towels were dusty and dirty. It did have a lot of outdoor space for parking and an outdoor garden.

Even better the second time

For the past couple years my brother and I have flown down to California for San Diego Comic Con, the biggest problem since starting this venture in 2012 was where to stay, we could either opt for a hotel in the city (ridiculous prices) or one on the fringes of downtown (less expensive but often rundown and chore to reach the convention), luckily two years in when I came upon this website I found this property and my options became a lot less limited. It has bedrooms, a kitchen, refrigerator, pool and a place to do laundry, after previously spending money on hotel rooms only to have to rely on a Styrofoam chest full of ice to keep food and drinks refrigerated this place makes things a whole lot easier, its tucked away enough from the more downtown area yet close enough to the highway to allow some peace and quiet but also reach San Diego with ease. The owner was kind, courteous and happy to accommodate us. Can only hope to stop by again this year.

A good home base

We were happy to have such a great homeowner to deal with. Jim has good communication and was quite accommodating. The house was comfortable and suited our needs well. The landscaping on the property is wonderful. We would stay here again, thanks, Jim!

Based on the description and reviews, I booked this rental for the week of September 15th-20th for my husband and I and 3 small dogs. We arrived after a 6 hour drive, finding a separate entrance at the back of the property. I was immediately put on alert with the state of the back of the property, littered with a pile of bricks, seemingly abandoned vehicles, open fire pit, and gates that were broken and hanging off the hinges. We stepped into the unit which was stifling hot and called the owner to ask about the thermostat to the a/c. When the owner arrived, his suggestion was to put the fans in the window (the only controls are in his part of the house). As we were talking to the owner, I was struck by the uncleanliness – pile of dog hair on the area rug; dust covering the furniture, floors, etc. The white leather sofa and recliner are worn and dirty. When I expressed my dissatisfaction about the lack of air conditioning and cleanliness, he did state he would “compensate” us if we chose to not stay and we agreed to having the unit cleaned the next day while we were out as we thought it over. Exhausted, 3 dogs, our 6 month savings for this stay spent and with a deep sea fishing expedition pre-paid for Wednesday, we felt we had little options. The water in the bath tub was draining slowly when we took our showers that night, the water backing up to our ankles. Wednesday morning the tub did not drain at all and filled up to about mid-calf. We left for our fishing excursion thinking it would drain during our absence. After a full day spent fishing, we returned and (with my husband’s help to the owner) had to deal with snaking out the clogged bath tub. The next morning we were over run with ants on the sofa but managed to repel them with Off we found in the cabinet. This property needs far more than a trip to IKEA – it needs a general over-haul including an investigation as to the water stained ceiling tiles in the kitchen which are not shown in the photos.

Owner's Response: I have been on HomeAway for about a year. I have had many happy customers. Then came a very difficult guest. She started complaining on arrival and did so several times a day until she left. While she got the same accommodations and way more service than any other guest, I still deducted $100 from her bill as a goodwill gesture. I will try to answer some of her complaints but I can state confidently that my place is nothing like what she describes. The back of the property is a dirt parking lot with no litter, a neatly stacked pile of bricks for a future project, no abandoned vehicles, a neat fire pit and kayaks enjoyed by many of our guests. There are no broken gates, they all close, we often have guests with dogs and they are secure in the yard. These guest did arrive during the hottest weather of the 20 years I have been here. I ran the AC continually while they was here ( I have never run it at night before). The unit was cleaned by my service to a high standard as usual. The guest went so far as to complain about a single cheerio in a trash can! There were no reported problems with the shower prior to their arrival. When they reported a problem I fixed it as soon as I arrived home from work that day. In summary the guest was a very difficult person, impossible to please, that I did my best to accommodate.

Perfect For The Family

I can't speak highly enough of my stay at the house or the owner who helped us settle in. Since arriving I found a separate parking entrance for the guest house that allowed us to move in easier, a washer and dryer that allowed us to wash our clothes, a tv with Direct TV and a dvd player to watch movies on, a couch and chair to snuggle up with the family while we took it easy and though you can't see it in the photos a fridge in the kitchen for keeping food cold for cooking. The neighborhood is safe, the house is close to a Target store and mall for shopping and close enough to the freeway to reach it easily but without worrying about the sound of traffic. During my vacation in California I stayed in two different locations, one this condo, the other a hotel room at $200 a night, even with its amenitiies, the condo here was not only far less expensive per night but also more comfortable, a better sleep, locale and fun stay than the hotel room. Finding this location was what saved our vacation and made for some of our best memories. Can only hope we can stay again next year.
