Joe Russo purchased this cottage in 2013
We chose this property after looking for 8 years and well over 400 homes. Excessive, yes by all means, but you will agree it is one of the most beautiful locations you will ever see and hopefully stay a week to enjoy it with us.
Rest, privacy, beauty of the lake, sunsets, AND sunrises are all part of being here. The property is within walking distance of the Alburgh Dunes State Park. You can get up, have your coffee, and walk down to either the private beach at the cottage or the State Park. For 2015 we have included a new 32 foot dock which will be adjacent to the front of the cottage. September and October are wonderful times to stay in Vermont on the Lake as it is fall foliage. Our gas stove will keep you toasty warm while enjoying the beautiful fall foliage and cool evenings.
It was a windy, chilly October night with rain blowing off the lake. Our seven hour drive had taken longer than expected. The GPS in our car told us we were here but we were not sure. To our left a flashlight came on and a voice asked for "Miriam". A second flashlight then directed us to the driveway and our destination. We skipped dinner earlier in order to get here as soon as possible and were a little hungry.
Bellissimo Lago was warm with a fire going, meticulously clean and inviting. Champagne, cheese, crackers and a tour awaited us.
As you have already guessed, Joe and El were standing in the wind and rain holding the flashlights to ensure we got here. They ensured the cottage was warm and welcoming.
This was the beginning of our week long stay at Bellissimo Lago to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. A beginning that set the stage for a wonderful visit to Vermont.
We found the cottage not only welcoming but inspiring. The art and attention to detail became a nightly topic of conversation. We kept the TV off, talked for hours and enjoyed a stress free week thanks to the wonderful welcome we received that first night.
Thank you Joe and El for all you did. We plan on returning and will be bragging bout Bellissimo Lago for a long time.
We hadn't stayed at this cottage for a couple of years for reasons out of our control. The former owners were great as was the rental but Joey and El have made this place even better. I didn't think it was possible.
This cottage has everything you need plus more. If it's not there, Joey and El do their best to meet your needs.
We spend most of our time fishing and there is an abundance of boat launches within a few miles of the cottage.
We plan on returning next year. Carol & Dave Castagna.
My husband Tom and I wanted a Vermont location to renew our wedding vows and Bellissimo Lago was perfect. The lake shore, the beautiful grounds and the meticulously furnished cottage provided everything we needed. Joey and El our hosts attended to everything including champagne, fresh fruit and flowers. We will never forget our week and plan to return next summer! David and Tom
This house is perfect for active families as well as those who just want a relaxing vacation. This home is great for people who enjoy cycling, kayaking, fishing, bird watching, swimming or just watching the lake and relaxing. Our family, was able to do it all thanks to Joey and El who were lovely hosts! We enjoyed sunrises over the fields in the morning and sunsets over the lake in the evenings. The kids swam and fished off the dock daily and honed their stone skipping skills. Alburgh Dunes park is within walking distance and is great for viewing wildlife as well as the sandy beach.
Our family enjoyed seeing Chazy reef and the fossils on nearby Isle la Motte. We also had a wonderful day in Burlington visiting Sheburne Farm, The Shelburne Museum, and Shakespeare in the park.
We couldn't have asked for a nicer vacation.
A great place to forget all your troubles and relax. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, an up-to-date bathroom, and is a relatively large two bedroom unit. Comfortable bedding, and lots of towels. With a great westerly view of Lake Champlain from the front porch, we watched numerous fantastic sunsets with a backdrop of the mountains of NY. The docks were an added swimming/relaxing bonus. Joey & El are hosts extroadinare, and El's paintings enhance the cottage's decor. Down the road about 1 1/4 miles is the Alburgh Dunes State Park, with a large sandy beach and boat rentals. Burlington was only a 45 minutes away where we found a charming, bustling, Church Street and many exciting restaurants.
We found this quaint cottage/lakehouse to be fully equipped and supplied (thoughtfully) for all of our needs.
Extra amenities included things such as a basket of brochures of local tourism and events. Also there was a local phone provided, wi fi, games, DVD's & net flicks!
We had an updated bath, new mattresses & bedding, plus a cozy gas fireplace, to add to our comfort.
We appreciated the new washer/dryer and weber gas grill.
The owners were accommodating, available (if needed) and sincere, kind people.
This location is close to a great State Park & a wide choice of great restaurants.
The area was perfect for kayaking/biking
Stayed two weeks & we found much to do in the area.
Will definitely return
We absolutely loved this home! Perfect and relaxing vacation. Joey and El were lovely hosts! We also loved the sunsets and going to Alburgh Dunes park only a minute down the road!
Surrounding the cottage are gardens, and over 20 acres of fields abutting the Alburgh Dunes State Park. The Dunes State Park contains the longest sand beach on Lake Champlain, and is a wildlife sanctuary. The Dunes State park also had boat rentals. It is not uncommon to see deer, wild turkey, raccoon, and many different varieties of birds. The cottage is 50 miles from Burlington, Vermont, which features open markets on Church Street, art galleries, performing arts theaters, restaurants and intimate pubs. Being close to the Canadian Border (US citizens require a valid passport) the city of Montreal is a cosmopolitan Mecca of European style restaurants, shops, galleries.
