About sherri mansell

Larry and Sherri live in south Florida with 4 children ages 12 to 25. Their parents live in NC and Georgia, and the family travels to western caroloinas as much as possible. They love the outdoor hiking, boating and many other activities.

sherri mansell purchased this cabin in 2011

Why sherri mansell chose Asheville Area

We wanted to be close to Asheville, a city with an airport, university and culture events, and also close to both parents in Geogia and NC. We love the quaint town of Black Mtn with great restaurants.

What makes this cabin unique

Biggest benefit is being only 10 minutes to town for food/gas/etc...and 20 minutes to the city of Asheville, BUT having a peaceful property with beautiful views and feeling like we are away from it all!!!

A Perfect Holiday Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

It could not have been a better Thanksgiving Holiday Getaway for our family and friends and we also celebrated our daughter's birthday which made it an extra special Holiday. The cabin and amenities exceeded our expectations and were all topped off with fresh fallen snow on Thanksgiving which was a real treat for a group of Floridian's (which we think may have been arranged by Sherri since she thought of everything else you may want or need for your stay). In addition to the beautiful cabin we also enjoyed the view of the mountains from the large porch and have fallen in love with the Town of Black Mountain (sorry Asheville we found a new love). We highly recommend this cabin to anyone and hope to return soon!

Perfect Getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything we imagined and then some. We vacationed with our "kids" and their partners ages 25 to 31. My only regret is that I wish I had recorded their faces when they made their way down to the basement. They were so surprised. They were like children on Christmas morning, not knowing what to play with first. The cabin was very clean, well stocked and much care was given to the details. Beautifully decorated and comfortable. I've been in the home building industry for over 35 years and it's obvious that a lot of thought went into making this the perfect home away from home. We will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Great vacation getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin. It had all of the amenities we were looking for. They really have thought of everything to make your stay the best. The cabin was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The basement with the game room and wine room and the dumb waiter were awesome. We spent most of our time down there. Black Mountain had great restaurants and you are provided with a book of details about the local places. The only downfall we had was the two mile gravel road. We aren't used to that and it was very bumpy and hard on the car. It only makes you want to stay in this wonderful cabin the entire time, but we were there to see the sights too. Thank you for really thinking of everything. You have a beautiful cabin!!

Absolutely AMAZING

  • 5 of 5

The High Rock Retreat is everything and MORE! We wanted to get away from Atlanta for a few days for a girls getaway and a true mountain experience. This cabin in Black Mountain, NC provided just that! We were intimidated initially due to the steep hills and windy hills leading to the retreat. We later found out that there are two routes up the mountain! Please follow the directions provided by the owner and follow route near Asheville Regional Airport. The gravel road you travel to get to the resort requires AWD vehicle during snowy/icy weather! Don't say you were never warned! Lol.

The views are AMAZING. A few of us braved the hot tub on the back deck with a great view of the mountains in the background! 3 bedrooms with 3 separate bathrooms are available. The basement is INCREDIBLE with a ping pong table and many different games. The wine cellar was a nice touch too! 3 TVs with cable were also provided in the cabin. Did I mention the kitchen? I could go on and on about how special this place is and hope to visit again soon! And it was very CLEAN! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Almost Perfect!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic time at this spacious. modern, beautiful, remote, rustic, "cabin." Really, "lodge" is a better word in our opinion as the Highock Retreat has everything from a 4-person hot tub on the deck to a dumb waiter to make transporting drinks and food to the basement game room easier. Each of the three two-person bedrooms on the main floor (one in the loft) were comfortable, clean, and roomy. The large kitchen was well-appointed, modern, and complete with all the small appliances and gear we needed. There was plenty of information about the lodge and the surrounding area and our hostess contacted us by phone to ensure that everything was fine.

The only reason we're not rating this stay 5 stars is because we can't give it 4.5 and there was one small glitch. When we arrived at about 4:45 (check-in time was 4 PM) we saw that the housekeeper was still working. She was welcoming and it was actually nice to have her show us around a bit, but when I asked her to show us the hot tub she realized that it wasn't ready for our use and would need to be drained. She explained that a large group had been there just before us and we figured she had other units to tend to that day so it was fine, just a minor imperfection. She started that process but explained that it would take till the next day to be drained, filled, and reheated. That was a bummer because for each of the other nights of our visit we enjoyed a day-ending soak on the expansive deck.

This was our first visit to the Black Mountain/Asheville area. We enjoyed exploring Asheville the first day, a hike up Graybeard Mtn. the second, and exploring Black Mountain for half of the third (the other half being spent at the Retreat). We enjoyed Que Sera restaurant in Black Mtn (highly recommended) and Olive or Twist in Asheville for live music. We'd love to return for another visit and will definitely consider this property again if we do.

Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous getaway! My girlfriends and I just returned from four days in this retreat. It was perfectly decorated in "cabin" style and unbelievably spotless. The beds were super comfortable and the house was very spacious. From relaxing in the hot tub overlooking the mountains, to the pool table, table shuffle board and other great games available in the basement, this house has it all. In addition, there are hiking trails on the property and the proximity to Asheville, Chimney Rock, and more make it the perfect place to stay. We will definitely return!
