Austin born sisters, Dorene and Denise have lived in Austin their entire lives. Our family and friends live here and we can not imagine living anywhere else! Austin is one of the hottest spots to visit in the nation. The combination of nature, live bands, and great food (Tex-Mex, barbeque, eclectic)...we just love Austin! We have owned and managed properties for 15 years and enjoy giving people a comfortable beautiful place to live and stay.
Denise and Dorene purchased this house in 2002
This property was handed down to us from our father. He had the foresight to buy the property in the 1960's and it is very special to us. Our entire family grew up and attended school in this area and many friends remain. We have loved seeing how this area has changed and grown over the years and we can quickly tell you where something 'used to be'.
We have remodeled the entire house and turned it into a South Austin gem. It is in the perfect location since it is conveniently located to downtown, restaurants, entertainment, nature walks, and shopping. Yet, you can still relax and get away from it all by sitting on the back deck with your favorite beverage.
The feeling in the house is one of being in a safe place and calmness. From the kitchen, bathroom and back deck you catch glimpses of the high rises of downtown. There is native landscaping and a large fenced in backyard with a three tiered awesome deck. There is also a little 'Hippie Room' just inside the carport. Located in a good location with speedy access to other areas in Austin via highways or major roads.

I would give this property 3 1/2 stars. When my friend and I had a girls weekend out, we stayed at this cute little home. It had been a wet, cold day, so we tried to get the house heated quickly. We found space heaters that worked very well, but made the mistake of putting two in the living room. We were a bit damp, so wanted warmth quickly. That blew the circuit breaker twice. We realized that it's an old house and it could only take one heater per room which was fine, because the heaters were good ones. Since the weather was so crumby (we had originally planned on shopping up and down South Congress), we decided to hunker down and watch a movie. We spent about 45 minutes trying to get the sound to work on the fancy speaker system. We would have been very happy using the sound on the TV, but couldn't get it to work with a DVD. We called Denise, but she was out of town and her sister was working. Denise is not the expert on the TV system. There are no instructions as to how to work this system. She did tell me that there was another remote besides the two with the TV, in a drawer in the table next to the TV. I don't know how we did it, but we finally got it working by using all 3 remotes. An annoying way to start out the evening.
The mat in the bathtub was particularly groady. When everyone pays a cleaning fee, you'd think a new mat could be purchased once in a while. Otherwise, however, everything was quite clean and comfortable. I think this would be a great place to stay any season except winter, because the backyard seemed to be a very nice area to sit and enjoy some wine in warmer weather.
We had a great time in this house! It is just as described. Beautiful original floors, furnishings are nice, beds are comfortable. Heating is via space heaters and A/C is via window units. But, this was not an issue for us. The owners left very nice teas, and we really enjoyed that extra touch. The outdoor "Hippy Hollow" in the carport is wonderful! Great place to relax, hang out, and chat. They have a stereo with CDs provided, space heater if needed, and extra blankets in the bedroom closet. It was chilly, so we used these features and it was lovely. Torchys next door is an excellent perk, it's so delicious and convenient. I was worried it would be noisy, but I didn't notice a thing (except people parking on the street out front to go into Torchys, but that was fine). The location in SoCo is excellent. We drove most places, but it would certainly be possible to walk as well. There's also a pizza pub right next door that looks interesting and fun. It was pretty crowded in there, so seems popular.
House was in a fantastic location and very comfortable. Owner Dorene was very helpful and responded to all of our inquiries right away. It's in walking distance to many restaurants and a 5 minute ride to downtown. Would definitely stay here again.
My husband and I rented this house along with another couple. The house is pretty tiny but perfect as an outpost in Austin. The backyard is the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee or afternoon drinks and you can't beat being directly next to Torchy's Tacos! I'm a runner and enjoyed running in the mornings in the surrounding neighborhood. It felt very safe. You're also only a few minutes drive to the restaurants and shops on South Congress and South Lamar and a quick cab ride to downtown. We had everything we needed supplied in the house and it was very clean. I'd highly recommend it!
We really liked this house. It was very comfortable and well suited to our family of 4. The outside is a nice bonus and even in the rain we could sit outside under the covered area. Like other guests we were drawn to Torchy's more than we'd expected - a great start to the day.
There is a bus service into town and we used Ride Austin taxi service in the absence of Uber and found it very efficient.
We'd consider returning here if ever find ourselves in Austin again.
We enjoyed our stay, too bad we did not have enough time to simply hang out in the back area! We had breakfast outside and really enjoyed being centrally located. The place was great, got a real sense of Austinian life! We would definitely choose this location again.
