We are a family of 6. We now reside in Boulder, Colorado. Our children are teenagers and we love to travel and spend lots of family time together. With a busy schedule of our children's activities we do not get to Crestone as much as we would like. Please go to our house and enjoy it as that makes us happy!
Jessica purchased this house in 2002
We did not intend to have the house as a rental but as we needed to relocate to Boulder. We built it as a great family house when our children were young.
The peace and quiet is amazing as well as the quality or the air and water. Everything is so fresh and lovely. We love hiking and going to the hot springs and the sand dunes.
We haven't been able to do a family trip since 2010. I'm convalescing from a brain surgery. My fiancée from a summers master course. Her son from a broken foot at the beginning of the summer. We chose this home in order to make up for a busy and strange summer together. The house defies description. Luxurious is not strong enough a word. The house is a piece of art, a time capsule and a palace! Sitting in front of the fire playing Shift or reading, we will never forget. Bouncing back and forth between Connect 4 Launchers and Ace Ventura (which we brought on VHS) continues to make us laugh. Besides staying in this incredible house, disconnected from cell service, we were able to connect with a community. Kind hearted and helpful are the words to describe the people we met. Visit the Haidakhandi Universal Ashram and speak to Tevye (Tay-Via) who should be the Crestone tour guide. Chant with the agriculturist at the Shumei temple and walk the grounds of the only funeral pyre in the Northwest hemisphere!
Thank you Jessica for trusting complete strangers to stay in your fairytale home for such an incredible experience. Your home takes the guess work out of choosing a place to stay in beloved Crestone, Colorado.
We spent 3 nights at the Butterfly House and it was the most relaxing, enjoyable place I've stayed in quite some time! We had so many deer visitors each morning and evening. The master bedroom is very comfortable and a fabulous bed. The others aren't quite as comfy but it's pretty neat that you could fit so many in the house and I'm sure have plenty of room to spare. There were only 2 of us and we treasured the extra room! So close to the little town yet not in town - like i said, it's the perfect setting! We hiked for miles each day and discovered new routes to take next time we come to the Butterfly House - I'm pretty certain I see Crestone becoming an annual getaway destination.
Jessica's place was all we could have hoped for. Privacy. Great location. Amazing view of the mountains. And the sunset reflecting off the mountains turned them blood red. A sight not to be missed. Creek in the backyard rushing over rocks makes it feel like you are in the wilderness yet minutes from the "downtown". Food at the Brewery is not to be missed. No hesitation to tell others and we will be back in the future.
It was lovely to stay in a wonderful house.
The start was difficult with a wrong code, a stove that didn't work but rewarded by a refund.
Check everything with the owner before going to the house to make a good start.
This house was simply fabulous and beautifully decorated. There's ample room to sleep at least 12 people, the kitchen is perfect for entertaining and cooking for a crowd. The two custom bathrooms are lovely, each with deep soaking tubs, separate showers, and large sinks. The house is in Crestone proper and is a five minute walk to two adequate grocery stores, a few lunch options, a new brewery that serves an acceptable dinner and even ice cream. You can hike out the back door without getting in your car, and we were visited daily by large herds of white-tailed deer. We loved sleeping with the windows open, feeling the cool breeze, listening to the gurgling stream, and waking up to the sunrise turning Challenger Peak rosy. I appreciate that the owners don't barrage you with a list of house rules and simply expect that you will leave the house as pristine as you found it. I would recommend arriving during daylight as the street signs are small and Google maps is not reliable. And thank goodness for the home's WiFi, because Virgin Mobile had absolutely zero reception in Crestone (though my husband has AT&T and had perfect reception). Thanks again for a wonderful stay!
This property was so sweet and quiet. We really were able to relax here and enjoy ourselves. We spent a lot of time soaking in the oversize tub and we slept so well in the spring mountain air. Crestone is pretty remote but has everything you need. The little grocery had a good variety. Alamosa and Salida are about 40 minutes away if you need more substantial provisions. We will definitely come back.
Hiking and exploring at the Sand Dune National Park, 3 hot springs,( Vally View, Sand Dune Swimming Pool, Joyful Journey Hot Springs and Spa) Near the lovely art town of Salida ( 1 hour) Two hours to Taos and three to Santa Fe, Near many unique spiritual centers.
