Open, light-filled and breezy multi-level house in Aquinnah with outdoor shower, hammock, lounge chairs and cook's kitchen; the perfect spot for a carefree vacation. The house is hidden in the trees and has a roof deck with water views of Vineyard Sound and the Elizabeth islands. There are two bedrooms including a master loft with Schifman queen and quality linens. The house is biking distance to all Gay Head beaches and includes permission to access Philbin Beach. Wifi included.
This house is featured in 'Unique Rentals' on the MassLive website.
I live and work in Boston, Massachusetts. I like to read, hike, cook. On the island I bike and rollerblade and try to get to Philbin around 3 in the afternoon. Some of my favorite things about Martha's Vineyard are Larsen's Fish Market, Chilmark Chocolates, the farms and pasture lands and the many and varied produce stands.
Dana An purchased this house in 1998
We bought this house at a time of real estate mayham on the island. There were few (or no) shared real estate listings and we were led to believe that this was the only home in Gay Head for sale in our price range. It was a headache of a purchase but we persisted. It is quiet, there are a million stars at night, Philbin Beach is beautiful.
The entire house is unique. It has a fun layout with a master bedroom loft. It has a good stove and the open kitchen/dining living area has a spacious, inviting feel. There is 2-acre zoning in the area and only 2 neighbors drive beyond our house to get to their houses.
It was a pleasure to have booked and lived in Dana's home for a week. We had very good contacts and advices from Dana and although she could not be present during our stay, she left very good information.
The house is tall with 3 terraces, in the middle of the forest, simple but with all of the modern comforts (hi-fi, DVD, laundry, dishwasher) and some bicycles were put at my disposal. In my point of view, it's best to have a car at this part of the island.
"Five star experience all around. This was my second time renting Dana's place. Aquinnah is a stunning summer destination and the Up-Island Treehouse was just as described. The beds were comfortable, the house was spotless and the roofeck was wonderful. We hope to return again next year!
We have stayed in Martha's Vineyard many times in the past but never on Up island.
The home is very secluded and private with a roof top deck with views of the Ocean. Walking distance to beach and a short bike ride to menemsha Bike ferry.
We stayed the week of July 4th and you would never known that there was that many people visiting the island.
Dana and Steve (owners) were very easy to work with. Home is very well stocked. They even surprised us with a gift upon our arrival.
We strongly suggest this home if visiting the island looking to just relax.
Very comfortable home that is true to the photos and description.
Up island is the place to be to avoid any kind of crowd. Period. We made use of the available Philbin Beach pass. I highly recommend acquiring the car pass. Fantastic beach. No crowds any day we were there. Menemsha is a 10 minute bike ride and a quick hop on the bike ferry, our favorite lunch/dinner spot. Comfy beds, a well stocked kitchen, plenty of outdoor space including the huge roof deck and a great main floor for gathering provided the perfect setting for our group. Dana was a pleasure to deal with and responded to questions re: our rental before and during our stay in a friendly and concerned manner. So glad we visited!
This multi-level house is airy, modern and fun. It had everything we needed. Great location and amenities. It's called the "Aquinnah Treehouse" and it was lovely to hang out on the rooftop deck among the treetops. We especially enjoyed practicing yoga and stargazing at night on the roof. We have stayed in several houses up island and this one is our favorite. The owners are extremely nice. Very caring, attentive and appreciative of our business. It was a fabulous experience and we hope to return soon. Thank you, Dana and Steven!
This is a very nice, multi-level home in Aquinnah. It is just a few minutes drive to either the Gay Head beach (public) or Philbin Beach (private). In fact, Gay Head beach is only a 15 minute walk. The home is clean, comfortable and decently equipped (except for the lack of internet) and it has a large, very private roof deck with great water views. The owners are wonderful people who really care! I would give it 4.5 stars if that was possible!
Aquinnah is located at the western-most tip of Martha's Vineyard, and is best known for its sunsets. There are four beaches: the two southern beaches are Moshup Beach and Philbin Beach. (You may be familiar with the photos of the clay cliffs at Moshup Beach.) There is one sound beach and one salt pond beach. From Lighthouse Road, it is 3.5 miles to the Chilmark store and a short bike ferry trip from Aquinnah to Menemsha. Top restaurants in the area include The Outermost Inn, The Chilmark Tavern and The Beach Plum Inn. Aquinnah's lighthouse was recently featured in a PBS documentary.

Aquinnah is located on the western tip of Martha's Vineyard, which is an island reached by boat and by air. Please make all transportation plans at or before time of booking. Car rental prices on Martha's Vineyard, especially at peak times, are much higher than in most of the U.S. Island-goers book ferries as far in advance as possible and peak weekends do fill up.
While there are trash services on the island, they do not come with this rental. Please do not inquire about this rental if you are not comfortable taking responsibility for your trash removal. The town dump has hours Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
