About the property

Beautifully built House with covered carport, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths

Welcome to Paradise!

This craftsman inspired tropical Villa is nestled on 3.75 acres of a private paradise in the Rainforest jungle surrounding Uvita. The panoramic views of the ocean, Isla Ballena, Cano Island, Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters rocks), Osa Peninsula, and the Rainforest will take your breath away!

The Villa is ideally located at a comfortable elevation of 700 feet, above the town of Uvita in a private gated wildlife reserve surrounded by 100+ acres of rainforest.

Built in 2008, Villa Kristina Maria has 4 spacious bedrooms (including two master suites), 3.5 bathrooms, over 2250 sq. ft. of indoor living space plus 1500+ sq. ft. of covered wrap around decks with lounge chairs and rocking chairs for relaxing and soaking in the scenery.

The Villa offers a truly unique and private location with a spacious open floor plan designed for indoor/outdoor living, lots of windows with screens, and ceiling fans in every room and on the decks for panoramic ocean views from every room.

Relax as you sip a drink at the bar on the palapa covered deck adjacent to the sparkling tiled swimming pool that features a serene rock waterfall surrounded by lush tropical plants and flowers. The palapa deck has a wet bar with a refrigerator, several bamboo bar stools, bamboo lounge chairs, a settee, and arm chairs. You'll never want to leave!

The Villa is tropically furnished with locally crafted bamboo furniture and beautiful artwork by Costa Rican artisans. Each of the four bedrooms has a queen sized bed, pillow top mattress, bamboo headboard, mirrored armoire wardrobe, an arm chair, and its own covered deck with a ceiling fan, and views of the ocean, islands and jungle.

The kitchen features stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher, tropical designed dishes, a breakfast bar, and is fully equipped with a toaster, electric coffee maker, blender, pots and pans, linens and cooking utensils.

The dining room has an oval bamboo dining table that seats 8 people. You can also dine al fresco at the bamboo table on the deck, or at the palapa bar.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature: Howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys, white-nosed coati mundis (raccoon family), agoutis, iguanas, toucans, parrots, many other exotic birds, beautiful butterflies including the spectacular blue morpho, dragonflies, frogs, lizards, and other jungle wildlife.

Hike to beautiful waterfalls in the nearby eco-community of the private reserve. Relax in a lounge chair and enjoy the tranquility and soothing sounds of the rainforest, or read a book in a comfortable bamboo rocking chair on the deck.

Minutes to beautiful tropical beaches where the jungle meets the shore, and the ocean temperatures range from 80-88 degrees year around!

Convenient to delicious restaurants in Uvita, Ojochal and Dominical, banks, grocery and convenience stores, gas station, and a multitude of nearby activities that include swimming, surfing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, fishing, boating, kayaking, snorkeling, zipline canopy tours, hiking, exploring ocean caves and rainforest waterfalls, ATV tours, learning about jungle flora and fauna on a guided hike at Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge, Don Lulo's horseback riding tour to Nauyaca Waterfalls, visiting Reptilandia (a reptile zoo), and shopping for souveniers at beachside open market on Playa Dominical, or at the Community Market in Uvita on Saturday mornings.

Guests who rent our Villa enjoy free use of beautiful beaches with our membership in the local Beach Club. The Beach Club has a restaurant, swimming pool, bar, restrooms, parking, and a private access to the beach in Marino Ballena National Park.

With so many dirt and gravel roads in the area, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is necessary. We would be happy to refer you to a reputable and reasonable rental car company. We also provide our guests with contact information for making reservations for nearby activities and excursions.

About Claire & Carol

Living in southern California, our family has always enjoyed outdoor activities at the Beach, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, Nature, and hiking. Our interests then were a perfect fit to purchase a home at the beach in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula. Our favorite beaches near us are Playa Ballena, Playa Ventanas, and Playa Hermosa. Also our favorite restaurants in the area are La Fogata in Uvita and Exotica in Ojochal.

Claire & Carol purchased this house in 2015

Why Claire & Carol chose Puntarenas

We fell in love with the spectacular views and surroundings of the Rainforest gorgeous scenery and natural wildlife in this secluded gated reserve in the Uvita area in the Southwest Pacific region of Costa Rica. The Costa Rican people are very warm and friendly, and made us feel welcome.

This private wildlife reserve and gated community where Villa Kristina Maria is located, reminds us of Jurassic Park because of its lush natural environment and abundant wildlife. Being surrounded by Nature is a peaceful and renewing experience.

We purchased the property in 2014. The home was designed by our friends Steve and Cathy in 2007, and started construction in mid-2007 with Ecomaderas, a local Tico contractor, and completed construction in 2008. We are proud of the way the home blends so seamlessly into the Rainforest.

What makes this house unique

Relax to the sound of the river cascading through the Rainforest. You'll be lulled to sleep by croaking frogs and the sounds of the jungle at night. Awaken to the distinct roar of Howler monkeys as they traverse through the jungle, and the squawking of green parrots flying overhead. When the surf is big, you can hear the waves crashing on the beach.

Included in the vacation rental is access to our Beach Club. The Beach Club has a beachside restaurant and bar, swimming pool, shower, and restroom facilities with private access to the beach in Marina Ballena National Park. It is a beautiful tropical beach with views of Tres Hermanas rocks and Isla de Cano. The ocean water temperature is a warm 80-88 degrees year-round. Monkeys and scarlet macaws are often sighted in the trees surrounding the beach.

Villa Kristina Maria is located in the Uvita area in a private, gated, and protected wildlife reserve. It is an ideal setting for viewing the flora and fauna of more than 100 acres of primary and secondary Rainforest, streams, waterfalls, and hiking trails.

Paradise As Promised!

  • 5 of 5

This house truly was Paradise As Promised! It was everything and more that you see in the photos and read about in the rave reviews. We were an extended family of 5 vacationing in Claire's home away from home, which became our home away from home. Beautiful indoor and outdoor space - comfortable - very nicely furnished with all the amenities you need (small stuff like: plenty of beach towels, dishwashing soap, laundry soap, hand soap, shampoo, etc... items that we have had to purchase in the past at other VRBO properties.). The house was so clean and neat upon arrival that we felt compelled to leave it just as nice the morning we left. Having 2 master bedrooms and the 2 additional bedrooms and bathrooms was very nice for a larger group. Pool and gardens were lovely. Fun to sit on deck and watch the monkeys and toucans in the trees! Heard the Howler Monkeys in the mornings but never got a look. The view is spectacular - over the rainforest tree tops to the ocean. If you are into fitness, a morning walk up the driveway and on the road will really get your heart going! And yes, the road up and the driveway do require a steady driver and a 4 wheel drive - no drinking and driving up this road at night! We would venture out for daytime activities, return home and then out to dinner at night - many great restaurants within 10 - 15 minutes after you got to the main road (driveway averaged about 15 minutes). Having access to Claire's beach club came in handy a couple times - Uvita Beach was close and very nice. Didn't use the beach club facilities though as they seemed to cater to a local, regular clientele. In conclusion, we recommend this property and the owner - Claire was wonderful to work with and gave great directions and instructions for our arrival. Hint: We used a local tour company for some great day trips to the best nature sites: Bahia Adventuras - we highly recommend them - great tours and the best guides! Thanks Claire for letting us enjoy your home and enjoy Pura Vida!

Family Getaway for the Holidays

  • 5 of 5

Villa Kristina Maria was the perfect home for our family/friends to get away for the holidays! It was more beautiful than expected. We had lots of room, never felt crowded with 7 people. Mornings were glorious sitting on the wrap around porch, drinking coffee and being delighted by the toucans, monkeys, parrots and iguanas in the surrounding rain forest. We equally enjoyed the evening sunsets over the ocean from the upper deck. Afternoons were made comfortable with a dip in the pool. We found the driveway to be part of the adventure. Claire, our host provided clear directions on how to get from Uvita to the house, including guidelines on how to navigate the driveway. It only took one run and it was old hat. Claire was a gracious host, albeit from afar, but we knew the caretaker was close if needed. We felt totally safe and secure in the home and thoroughly enjoyed venturing into town and the surrounding areas. We recommend exploring the Whales Tail, Kayaking in the Mangroves, swimming in the local waterfalls, and zip lining with Osa Canopy Tours to name a few. Claire shared lots of ideas on what to do and where to eat and she is friends with the Uvita Information Center and they provided great service and advice. If you are seeking the best of the jungle and ocean, in a tranquil setting and willing to drive 7 minutes up a dirt road to experience it, than VKM is the place to be. BRING binoculars! and sunscreen, and be prepared for dampness. (The ceiling fans gave some relief) There is no air conditioning and we liked it that way, keeping the house open. Pura Vida!

Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Family of five getting away from the hustle of life. The house is absolutely beautiful, and the photos really don't do it justice. The wrap around deck and private pool with waterfall are great , and the views are amazing. It is a 15 min drive to main road, so when you venture out it is usually for the day. The electricity went out a few times while we were there-but other then that it was awesome. Howler monkeys, toucans, and lizards definitely entertained us. Uvita 360 was great for surfing, beach club was great- good body surfing. la Fogata became one of our favorite places to eat- we also enjoyed Sibu (amazing coffee), and The Bakers Bean is a great spot to pick up fresh emenadas to go. Thanks for sharing your home- very spacious and lovely.

60th Birthday

  • 5 of 5

I brought my husband here for his 60th birthday present....

What a great place to stay! It was way more than we needed for the 2 of us, but I could see bringing our 3 kids next time and having plenty of room for all of us.

The most impressive thing to us was the beautiful, big wrap around porch that made us feel like we were in a tree house. We were able to enjoy catching glimpses of toucans, parrots and other birds. Hearing the howler monkeys at night was quite the experience! The private pool was a joy to have on the hot days and evenings. The house is very nicely done and comfortable. Everything you need is there. Claire was very helpful and accommodating in answering any questions we had. Travis with Bodhi surf and yoga was a tremendous surf instructor if you want to learn to surf! We hope to be back again one day with the whole family!

Thank you Claire, for sharing your beautiful home

True Costa Rican Experience

  • 5 of 5

We were 2 families with a total of 4 adults and 5 children, the house accommodated us perfectly, it had enough space for everyone to do their own thing when needed. The pictures are a true vision of the home, however, the house is actually a lot nicer than they portray.

This was our second time in the area and it is truly a great home to stay at if you want a real Costa Rican experience, there are toucans in all the trees out front, we had a flock of green parrots that were around for a week, and of course you hear the howler monkeys each morning. There is a ton of wildlife to see all around the house, frogs, iguanas, birds, humming birds, cool insects, etc.... (thankfully we saw no snakes!)

The pool was large enough to keep everyone cool and the kids had enough room to play in, most of the time we were at the beach so the pool was just a nice addition for later in the day.

Location is perfect, close to all areas that you want to visit, grocery stores are close and the 2 towns of Ojochal and Uvita are only 5 mins down the hwy (after you get down the mountain drive). Do not attempt to go to this home without a 4x4 and make sure you have a good one, the driveway is steep, one of our vehicles was a little smaller and the emergency brake seized up after the rain which caused a bit of a problem, was a brief moment of panic. (Just get a fullsized Large 4x4, you will thank me later).

The house has everything that you need besides your groceries! The owner Kathy was easy to deal with and was quick to responsd to any questions. Adolfo who maintains the property there is a wonderful person who went way above and beyond to help us, we arrived to Uvita late (it was dark) and we had a similar experience our last trip and did not want to venture up the mountain roads alone, we called him and he came to show us the way, I couldn't thank him enough!!!! (Another tip: Arrive there in daylight!)

Beach you cannot skip while staying in the area: Playa Ventanas - it is super clean, there is security, and frankly it is just beautiful (bring a hammock, there are lots of trees to hang it from)

Thanks again and hopefully one day we will be back, definitely a house worth renting!

Worked great for our multigenerational group

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Villa Kristina Maria was absolutely perfect. Our group of 7 included three generations including twin 15 month-old girls. Careful placement of furniture made the place baby friendly and safe. We all enjoyed the pool which is nothing short of spectacular with its waterfall and gorgeous plantings. We expected it to be the center of activity for our one week stay with many side attractions to explore. It turned out that we spent almost the whole time at the Villa and rarely left. The bird watching was the best right from the front porch. Watching the storms come trough over the ocean was great entertainment in itself. We did lose power a number of times which we found out is fairly normal. It was never off for very long but we had to plan ahead with candles at the ready. It just added to the adventure. Speaking of adventure the driveway down to the house could double as a ski jump and gave everyone a small thrill every time we drove it. Put it all together and it is a fantastic place to stay and just hang out in the jungle. There is lots to do in the area but you may find that the best attraction is the Villa itself.
