Located 1.25 mile from Poipu Beach and directly on the Kiahuna Golf Course, Hale Nene Poipu is an elegant plantation-style house with a private salt-water pool/spa and expansive golf, lake, sunset, ocean and mountain views. A two-story floorplan allows families and guests their own separate quarters, also with lovely views and luxury amenities. Hale Nene Poipu is named after the wild hawaiian geese that flock near the lake.

The upper floor has a great room with vaulted, wood-inlaid ceilings and stone floors throughout the upper dining, gourmet kitchen, and living areas. Huge glass doors recess completely into the wall for an indoor/outdoor living area opening to a covered lanai with built-in BBQ, table and lounge seating The upper lanai enjoys a wide-open sunrise/set, lake, golf and ocean horizon views. The gourmet kitchen is fully-equipped and includes Wolf, Sub-Zero and Kitchen Aid appliances and mountain views. The upper master King suite has vaulted, wood-inlaid ceilings and golf, sunset and ocean views. The master bath includes a soaking tub, stone-lined walk-in shower and walk-in closet.

The lower floor has a second complete spacious master suite and en-suite luxury bath, a third bedroom with two twins and a third full bath. There is also an open lower media area with an optional queen sleeper. All lower rooms open to the private pool, spa and covered lower lanai with seating.

The home is 1 mile from the ocean and 1.25 mile to Poipu beach. Beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas are provided. Less than a mile from the house is the Poipu Shopping Village with island-theme boutiques and galleries, Starbuck's Coffee; Keoki's Paradise, a fun island/tiki torch garden restaurant; art galleries; a general store with many basic groceries and island items, the addictive Puka Dog stand with fresh lemonade; Kauai-made gelato shop; Bangkok Happy Bowl Thai food, surfing stores and free Hula shows on an outdoor stage by the local hula school. The luxe Shops at Kukui'ula are 1.5 miles away with a Roy's and a Merriman's Restaurants, Tommy Bahama and many boutiques, restaurants, live music and an excellent gourmet market event each week.

Hale Nene Poipu is privately-owned. We live in Alaska and use it for our holidays from our work and school and thus work to maintain it in excellent condition for our enjoyment - and yours.

About Elise

We are working professionals who live in Anchorage, Alaska. This is our only vacation home and we use it on our holidays so we have an interest in keeping it well-stocked and in excellent shape. After 20 years of camping and squeezing into a condo on Kauai, we bought Hale Nene Poipu as our vacation home to escape the cold Alaska winter and to enjoy Kauai in a more spacious, private and luxurious setting. We like to be out and about on the island, but also appreciate privacy and the an expansive, peaceful view, so this property really appealed to us. On-island, we are fortunate to work with a tight-knit group of trusted tradespeople who take excellent care of our home and our guests. Aloha!

Why Elise chose Poipu

Kauai is well-known for it's tropical beauty; one friend noted it was almost ike a theme park - with fragrant flowers in the breeze, rainbows, and white sand beaches. It is also a mellow island with a distinct tropical feel, but with plenty of restaurants, shopping, snorkeling, hiking and biking to keep us busy. Hale Nene Poipu appealed to us because we like to be very active and all our favorite beaches, walking and biking are right out our door. However, we also like to have a peaceful refuge and the house, with its huge views and outdoor/indoor living areas, is relaxed and private.

What makes this house unique

As this is our private vacation home, we take care to keep it in the best condition. We also have a personal interest in our guests enjoying their holiday and we welcome them to enjoy Hale Nene Poipu as their own private luxury vacation home.

We've had a heavenly time here, your home was very comfortable and thank you for your helpful suggestions and advice. We certainly had all the comforts of home and then some; we all want an instant boiling water tap in our kitchens now! My only regret is that we didn't take advantage of playing the golf course we woke up to every morning. Hope the golfers didn't mind the 'gallery' as we enjoyed our morning coffee!

  • The upstairs master bath has natural green marble and travertine floors. It has a luxurious soaking tub set in a marble stone platform and base, a walk-in shower with two shower rainheads, natural stone surround and two sinks. The lower master and downstairs each have their own private full bath with cream travertine stone, walk-in showers with stone surround, rainhead shower and oversize sinks. The upstairs half-bath has an elegant vessel sink, hardwood cabinetry and stone flooring. Cream towels and fragrant, tropical Alba Botanica Hawaiian Spa bath products are also provided in each of the bathrooms.

  • The upstairs and downstairs master suites offers a complete refuge for guests. The upper has a vaulted ceiling inlaid with hardwoods in the plantation style, while the spacious lower suite has glass doors which open to the lanai and salt water pool and spa. From both suites, during the day you can look out over the golf course out to the ocean; after dark the suites can be lit with the warm glow of indirect soffit lighting. A King bed, luxury bed linens, soft, quiet carpet, and a ceiling a fan complete the suites. A large walk-in wardrobe closet leads to the stone-lined master bath in both suites. The third lower, bedroom with two twin beds (may convert to King) has glass doors to the lower covered lanai, as well as quiet carpeting, a fan, dresser, closet and luxury linens. The downstairs media room has a Queen sleeper and glass doors leading to the covered lanai, salt water pool and spa. Each bedroom includes Sony ipod clock radio.

Heavenly Hawaiian Ohana

This Hale Nene Ohana is exactly as pictured. The setting is gorgeous, the kitchen well-stocked, beds very comfy. Having an upper and lower lanai plus pool and hot tub gave a delightful array of outdoor interaction. The AC downstairs was broken for the first several days, but then fixed. A separate unit upstairs helped mitigate the humidity during that time. Living room furniture was worn but comfy. Washer and dryer worked well and were a godsend. Lovely recessed lighting in common area and upstairs master plus good reading lamps. Bathrooms were luxurious and closet storage huge. We shall return!

Perfect for family trip!

We stayed here for 8 nights in January of 2018. This was our first VRBO experience. We chose this location based on the number of excellent reviews. We travel to Hawaii every winter and this was our first visit to Kauai. We traveled with 6 adults and 2 kids in our party.

The entire process through VRBO was very easy. Elise is very responsive to email/text's and was a pleasure to communicate with. She checked in periodically to see how our trip was going. Some have mentioned the long list of house rules. Rest assure the rules are reasonable and very easy follow. We treated this beautiful home as we do our own and had no issues with the rules.

The house is spacious and comfortably housed 8 of us. The "chef" in our group loved the kitchen and I now understand the appeal of Sub-Zero refrigerators! The master suites are large and the beds were nice. It was very convenient having a full sized washer and dryer. The neighborhood is peaceful and close to amenities and the beach. The swimming pool and spa were great!

This trip was one of our favorites. Kauai is gorgeous and the house exceeded our high expectations. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

Great, quiet house close to beaches

We stayed for three nights in this awesome house right on the golf course. Only about a mile from great beaches in Poipu and day trips out to Waimea Canyon. House is super clean and well-maintained with two master suites and a third bedroom with two twins; we would definitely stay here again.

This was our second year at Hale Nene and it again did not disappoint.

The house is just perfect and the living space inside and out with the open view to the golf course and distant ocean view is just spectacular!

Elise is wonderful and only a text away should any issues arise. We are looking forward to our golf vacation next year at Hale Nene!

Very nice home in a great location near Poipu.

We stayed here Sept 16th - 26th with two other couples and highly recommend this home. Each couple had their own bedroom with king size beds and separate bathrooms. The kitchen, family room and lanai are set up in an open concept making it very easy for all of us to gather together and take advantage of Kauai's indoor/outdoor living. There were beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear available for us to use as well. The pool and hot tub are not huge but were a great amenity to have available. The house has tile and wood flooring throughout the common areas and bathrooms. The bedrooms have a light colored carpeting so it is important to keep shoes out of the house and your feet clean. There is full sized washer and dryer which is a must have when staying 10 or more days. This is a very nice and quality home and is deserving of guests that will take good care of it. I can honestly say that I am am not sure I would be willing to rent it out if I owned it.

Beautiful Poipu Home Stay

We prefer to have our own space when we travel, and this house was just what we were looking for. We were gone all day, every day, but we loved having this house to return to each evening. It was a retreat. The beds were very comfortable and we had plenty of space for our family of four - with 2 daughters, 18 and 21. It really was ideal! Each morning, we would have our coffee and watch the amazing sunrises from the back deck. Every evening we would utilize the pool and/or Jacuzzi and take in the relaxing comforts of the home. We ate breakfast at the house most mornings, and made dinner one evening. The kitchen was well stocked with nice appliances, and it was easy to navigate around. This property is pristine. Everything was in working order, and very clean. We were grateful for the reasonable standards the owner asks of her renters. The only thing we were ever in want of, was an extra set of bath towels per person and maybe a few extra beach towels and an extra blanket. I feel bad I never requested this from the owner, but we were busy and made due by doing laundry each evening. If I had asked, I'm sure Elise would have made it happen. She was so helpful with tips about the area, restaurants and logistics and just wanted us to have an amazing time which we did!

Hale Nene Poipu sits directly on and looks out over the Robert Trent Jr.-designed Kiahuna golf course, which offers challenges to for experts and beginners, as well as Paco's Tacos restaurant and bar (.5 mile).

Hale Nene Poipu is 3/4 miles from the ocean and 1.25 mile from the Poipu Beach Park, which has been voted 'Best Beach' in America by the Travel Channel as it offers a diversity of activities for all ages. Children (and Hawaiian monk seals) love the calm waters of the 'baby beach' side, while the other side has deep, clear waters and abundant fish for snorkeling. The small waves are good for beginning boogie borders and there is a surfing area for experienced surfers. The beach park has restrooms, lifeguards, snack shop, restaurant and picnic area.

The nearby Poipu Shopping Village (1 mi.) has Starbucks Coffee, a general store, hula shows, boutiques, art, surf shops, Keoki's tiki style restaurant, gelato, the addictive low-brow chow at Puka Dog , Bangkok Happy Bowl, Olympic Cafe, Anuenue Cafe and more.

The elegant, plantation-style Shops at Kukuiula include an upscale and island-style selection of restaurants, boutiques, gourmet market, surf shops, live music and gourmet food events, coffee, ice cream, Roy's Eating House, Merriman's Restaurant, Bubba Burger, and Tortilla Republic. There are also many boutiques, art galleries, surf shops and a Tommy Bahama.

The historic town of Koloa, the home of Hawaii's first major sugar mill, has quaint shops, restaurants, a gas station and a large grocery store.
