As natives of Waynesville, we love living in the mountains and enjoy the casual living here. Never a big believer in spending any unnecessary time in traffic kept me close to my childhood roots. Birthing babies and raising them in the mountains with the small town atmosphere and the closeness of family and a mix of great friends made it an easy decision to stick around these parts.
Smoky Mountain Vacation purchased this house in 2007
My great great grandfather found love in these mountains back in the mid 1800's and settled down to be farmers with a knack for growing apples.
Our family had a small cabin where the present house sits since the 1950's where we gathered for picnics and camp outs. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to build our dream home here. It has always been considered one of the better views in Haywood County.
We designed our home to reflect the beauty of the environment surrounding it and for the home to blend into the mountain. You will love to watch the sunsets as they change daily and we can honestly say we have never seen the same sunset twice.
There may be a better house or a better view but there is not a better house with better view.
Complete privacy with no other homes in sight, unobstructed views, additional 200 acres to hike and mountain bike, the feeling of being pampered by the unique yet comfortable interior of the house, relaxing on the screened in porch listening to the sounds of the mountain and sitting around the fire pit at night.
Having a yard at this elevation to swing in the hammock and toss a bean bag or horseshoes is rare.
A glorious place to get away, renew and refresh! We spent Thanksgiving with our family including 4 young granddaughters who loved every minute. The house is cozy and yet there are plenty of places for active little ones to play. The furnishings, design and location are beyond lovely. The views are divine - we loved watching as the sun set and seeing the lights downtown came on - from the top of the mountain Waynesville looks like a strand of sparkling jewels at night! I've never rented with a more accommodating owner - so helpful and considerate. We topped out last night with a bonfire and our "littles" still talk about the fun they had!
Our family came up for Spring Break to stay in is what I now refer to as my sanctuary! Absolute peace and quite with the nearest neighbor barely visible through the trees - I think it took me two days to even notice! After walking in to the home for the first time, I could not believe the view in front of me...absolutely stunning! The home itself, is nothing short of exquisite with a wonderful layout, large rooms, beautiful furnishings and tasteful decor. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into this home and it is well maintained. There are neat little features from lighting to architectural design that were so impressive. It is stocked with everything you'd expect and even hope for - paper products, trash bags, detergents, spices, linens, Wii games, board games, etc. The kitchen has everything you need for meal preparation. There is even a substantial CD collection and stereo for guest's use that we took full advantage of! Enjoyed having the music flow throughout the home. We would sit and watch - from inside, on the screened in porch or the deck - the view constantly changing with the clouds rolling by. Nighttime offered a completely perspective of overlooking the town full of twinkling lights!
The owner, David, is a pleasure and easy to reach. He met us at the bottom of the mountain and lead us up Harriett's Trail to the property. We would have never found it otherwise! The drive up (and down!) the mountain is quite the "adventure" being that it is a one lane gravel road that is quite steep and winding even going through two creeks. Follow David's instructions...take the curves wide and put it in 4WD going up and low gear going down. Takes a few extra minutes to traverse but so worth it!
When we did decide to venture out, we spent time window shopping in the lovely town of Waynesville, ate lunch at Haywood's Smokehouse and also at Clyde's, toured around Lake Junaluska, and spent one afternoon in Cherokee. Dollywood, about 1.5 hours away, provided a full day of activity. We also explored the nearby National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway and sought out quite a few waterfalls. Many things to do with so little time. This place is close to everything!
We hated to leave but look forward to returning one day! Many thanks for a wonderful family vacation!
Truly a little piece of heaven. Very secluded and private on a beautiful piece of land. Home is large yet cozy and there are numerous places to steal a few munutes alone. A lot of custom touches throughout this beautiful home made this a memorable experience. Owner is very personable and helpful. The best part of this home is the extraordinary views that change from day to day, and throughout the day. We've already made plans to return later this year. You won't be disappointed and this home will exceed your expectations.
Rented this home for a week this March and had a great time. The owner was very helpful, and even gave us the use of his truck when the road turned slippery. Above and beyond just being helpful. The views are spectacular, and we could actually look down on planes flying around the town! The house itself is very well equipped, and we got a lot of use out of both the indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and even the fire pit. One day, we left a sunny downtown, drove up to the house and watched as a cloud rolled in and covered the hill so you could not see 20 feet in any direction, quite a sight! Do try Haywoods Smokehouse, best BBQ I've had in years.
We had such a wonderful and relaxing stay, and definitely planning on a return visit hopefully in the fall. David was excellent to work with, we really appreciated his hospitality. We loved everything about the home, especially the amazing kitchen and super comfy bed. It's an added bonus to be able to bring our dog with us. :) We spent a lot of time as well out on the screened in porch with the gas fireplace lit in the evenings. We were awestruck at the constantly changing views through out the day and when the clouds would roll in. It was truly amazing. Downtown Waynesville was only about 15-20 min away from the house. We highly recommend eating at Sweet Onion. We look forward to exploring the area more on our return visit, hopefully soon.
We met family for a long weekend and the cabin couldn't have been more perfect. David (the owner) was quick to respond to any requests and very friendly and helpful. The cabin itself was immaculate. High quality furnishings (including towels, toiletries, etc). We cooked all meals there and were thrilled with the fully stocked kitchen (even basil and oregano for us to use in our spaghetti!). Very luxurious for the price. Can't wait to return in warmer weather where we can enjoy the outdoor space a bit more. Highly recommend - I've stayed in many cabins in different areas over the years, and this one is right up there at the top for both cleanliness and amenities. Road to the cabin is steep, curvy and gravel - we did fine with front wheel drive vehicles and it was worth it for the view at the top, but be prepared for the ride. Highly recommend!!!
