I'm a builder - carpenter by trade. This is my first cottage, I enjoyed the challenge of trying to restore one of the islands oldest homes
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2010
I spent summers combing the beach as a child
This is still considered one of the last family beaches in N.C.
If you are looking for a rental that has ample space with limited travel time to the beach, this is the place! It is located right across the road from the dunes with no other houses set in front of it. For the most part, my family had most of the beach in front of this house to ourselves and it is conveniently located close to Food Lion and Eagles. The downstairs has a King room, a Queen room and a front room that has bunk beds. The living room also has 2 large couches, one a pull out and a nice leather chair. The fact that this place has a washer and dryer was a huge plus. There is a upstairs "apartment" that has a small kitchen, 2 twin beds and a pull out sofa but you have to access it from the outside.
The drawbacks to this place was that the downstairs air conditioning would not get below 77 degrees in the living room/kitchen and dining room during the heat of the day. We figured out on the 2nd day if was more than likely because one of the floor vents was covered up by the couch, but moving the couch only alleviated the problem to get to about 75 degrees. The bedrooms were comfortable at night since they also had ceiling fans. Also, the outside shower was nothing but a trickle and and you couldn't get clean in it, so we ended up just hosing the kids and us down with the garden hose on the side of the house. The upstairs apartment was nice and cool with one window unit, but the bathroom was hot unless you kept the door open.
Also, we had rented the house for 5 nights and were planning on staying Sunday and leaving on Friday. There were no instructions from the homeowner on how we were to leave the house when we checked out on Friday so I texted the homeowner on Thursday mid day, to find out how he wanted the unit left. He promptly responded, "You paid for 5 nights correct" to which I responded that we did and would be leaving on Friday and never received another text back from him. We ended up stripping the beds and leaving them in the laundry room and putting a few dishes in the dishwasher and starting that and swept up and left.
Overall, we were pleased with our stay despite the minor issues and would probably rent this location again if the air conditioning was updated. Thankfully it was in the mid to high 80's most of the week, it probably would not have been tolerable if the temperatures outside were in the 90's.
My family and I had a great week staying at this location. It was everything it was portrayed to be. We felt at home and enjoyed the close proximity to the beach. The owner was wonderful to work with and we had everything we needed. Would love to come back next summer.
Garage was a plus, I parked my golf cart in it.
We just stayed at the cottage the week of June 14-21st. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. The cottage was very clean, had everything we needed, and was in a great location. The outdoor shower was great. Easy beach access just a few yards down the road to the right. Full apartment upstairs (gain access via stairs from the outside) though we didn't really use it. Owner was very nice, and recommended many local restaurants and attractions in the area. Hoping this property remains a rental because we would love to come back some day!
We thouroughly enjoyed our days in the beach bungalow! It was extremely clean and just as described in the pictures etc. If you read reviews and the owner's description and this sounds like the house for you BOOK IT! It is exactly as everyone says! It's close to Food Lion, shopping, Dairy Queen etc. The beach is private and right across the rd. Southport is just a skip and a hop. You will have a lovely time. Thanks for sharing this home at a reasonable price! God Bless!
Cozy, well-built house on the oceanfront. Chairs, towels, linens, buckets and shovels, are all there so you don't need to bring your own. Upstairs apartment section has amazing view! Owner is very kind. Great for families with teenagers, who can stay "upstairs". Within walking/biking distance of restaurants, grocery, stores, pier.
