My husband and I are Allied Health Professionals who are avid outdoorsman. Hiking, biking, kayaking, rock climbing trailrunning skiing, snowshoeing ..anything that keeps us in the outdoors.
Tracy Hetzer purchased this house in 1995
This is a family home that has been handed down through 4 generations.
Relax, enjoy the outdoors. The Park is all around you. Enjoy the comfort of this family home after getting out and letting Acadia sooth your soul.
We have a large kitchen with 2 stoves and lots of counter space, great for family meals. There is a large dinning room and outdoor dinning on the deck.
I stayed here with my 3 children and we had a fabulous experience. The house can fit at least 7 and so we had plenty of extra space. The property is well maintained and a great place to sit and relax after a day of sight seeing. Easy access to all the sights on the island. I would definitely recommend Hetzer House to anyone looking to stay on Mount Dessert Island. :)
Hetzer House was our home for 3 nights --We loved every minute of our stay -- It was a perfect place for us --easy access to all sights -- great sleeping arrangements -- great kitchen -- loved the general store -- Great hostess in Tracy -- Arr and Dep went so smooth --it was like arr and dep your own house -- Price was great plus no cleaning fee -- Thanks again Tracy --Norm and Pat
We just loved the Hetzer House. From the time we arrived and our kids (adult mind you) ran through the home checking it out...we all loved it! What a great size for a family of 8. Bedrooms had plenty of room. So much room in the master suite, especially if a younger family needed space for a port a crib, etc. It was nice to feel the family history in the home, you could tell there were probably a lot of memoreis made there. Everything we needed to get started was in the home including paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap. The Otter Creek Market was within walking distance and perfect for coffee and a homemade Scone, also any necessities. But the Hannaford Supermarket outside of Bar Harbor was convenient for major shopping.
The home was in a great location, easy access to the Park Loop and really convenient to Bar Harbor. Acadia was just beautiful. We enjoyed every minute but could have used a few more days to check more off of our list. It was nice to be there before the "in-season" began. The free bus along the park loop was not running but due to less crowds we had no problem driving the loop, and finding parking.
Tracy was very easy to deal with, and available to answer a few questions as needed. When we first arrived we missed seeing the welcome letter that alerted us of an updated wifi password. Tracy got back to me in a timely manner, and although there was a little panic in the house, it was a wonderful few hours of movie watching and dinner time without any "technology". (I didn't tell the family that Tracy got back to me with new info so quickly).
We would definitely recommend the Hetzer House.
Our family recently rented the Hetzer House and we could not have been happier. The house was everything we hoped for and the layout was perfect (one note is that one bedroom is accessible through another – wasn’t a problem for us). In addition the cleaning crew did an amazing job and the house was spotless. Although we didn't have the best weather the area was beautiful and during the rainy times we had plenty to do in the house (Internet, board games, books, DVD/VHS movies)! Our kids (age 1 and 3) loved the baskets of toys and kid books - such an unexpected surprise! Tracy was awesome to work with and was very responsive. We would definitely rent this house again when we return to Acadia. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
We had a wonderful visit to Mt. Desert Island.Tracy was very helpful and her house was great, met all our needs. Every evening we had 2 visitors that just loved to eat carrots. So many things to see and do, we walked across Bar Island during low tide, saw a deer on the island, hiked, visited all the harbors on the island, visited thunderhole 4 times, was pretty quiet most of the time, sand beach, otter cliffs, cadillac mountain, shopping, walked the Shore Path in Bar Harbor, and ate lots of LOBSTER.
My family and I stayed at this property August 2011 and we had the best time!!! The property was so warm and inviting....it felt like it was our own home and had everything you could possibly need. We ate lobsters, BBQ'd, played games in the very large yard and just relaxed on the roomy patio each evening. The location was great as each morning we would walk to Otter Point and up to Thunder Hole, then jump on the Island Explorer which conveniently stops in front of the home. The trail to Cadillac Mountain was just down the street (beautiful hike) and there is a quaint little market just around the corner. I so recommend this property and I can't wait to come back!!!!!
Acadia National Park; miles of carraige trails and ferries to outer islands. Enjoy berry picking in season: July brings Raspberries, there is a farm patch up the street where you can pick'n pay by the pint. In the end of July and begining of August Blueberry bushes line the roadways and hiking trails for snacks or pies. August brings Blackberries along the park loop road and September ripens the apples found on trees through out the park.
