Super clean and well maintained

  • 5 of 5

The house was great.

Great location, well supplied, well maintained and very clean. We loved hanging outside by the fire pit at night and the kids enjoyed the games and playing in the yard between hikes.

The only heads up I would give is to buy water because the water from the tap didn't taste good.

We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay for Acadia and Bar Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this family home. Two ovens, plenty of books, a grill with charcoal, great for dining at home. Beach towels for Sand Beach, loads of books, nice deck, beautiful flowers. Fans in every room, slept with windows open. Close to everything in Acadia National Park. 10 minutes to Bar Harbor.

We would stay here again. Our family of four spent the first night cramped in a harbor side hotel in Bar Harbor. This place was terrific got our family to spread out. Tracy was very easy to work with and accommodated our change on dates due to a work conflict.

Great VRBO Experience in Acadia

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I stayed for three nights with our 16 year old twins (boy and girl). We would have stayed longer but the property was not available. Tracy was great to deal with, very responsive and provided good detailed answers to our questions. If you have teens or a large group and need some space to spread out...THIS IS THE PLACE. This would be a GREAT place for 2 or 3 adult couples that travel together etc.

The house was very clean and everything was in good shape. Beds were comfortable, linens in good shape, etc. It smelled fresher and cleaner than most hotels. The importance of this cannot be overstated. My wife and I both have done a good bit of traveling for work and fun and we have stayed in a very broad range of hotels, motels, Inns, B&B, VRBO, etc. We were pleased with the Hetzer house.

Kitchen came with all the basics you should need. Nice washer and drier for clothes. This is HUGE if you are out hiking and active all day. Only minor hiccup was that the brand new Bosch dishwasher was not working but Tracy had let us know in advance. Considering how much trouble we have had with our own "high end" dishwasher it didn't really bother us.

I was a little freaked out that there were not more current reviews. Now that we have been there, I suspect it is because folks are afraid if they leave a good review it will make it harder to get the dates they want next time! I was also concerned that I could not check out thru VRBO. No problems at all with the transaction. I received my damage deposit back LESS THAN one week after we checked out. That is what prompted me to stop what I was doing and write this review.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my 3 children and we had a fabulous experience. The house can fit at least 7 and so we had plenty of extra space. The property is well maintained and a great place to sit and relax after a day of sight seeing. Easy access to all the sights on the island. I would definitely recommend Hetzer House to anyone looking to stay on Mount Dessert Island. :)

Great Family Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

We just loved the Hetzer House. From the time we arrived and our kids (adult mind you) ran through the home checking it out...we all loved it! What a great size for a family of 8. Bedrooms had plenty of room. So much room in the master suite, especially if a younger family needed space for a port a crib, etc. It was nice to feel the family history in the home, you could tell there were probably a lot of memoreis made there. Everything we needed to get started was in the home including paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap. The Otter Creek Market was within walking distance and perfect for coffee and a homemade Scone, also any necessities. But the Hannaford Supermarket outside of Bar Harbor was convenient for major shopping.

The home was in a great location, easy access to the Park Loop and really convenient to Bar Harbor. Acadia was just beautiful. We enjoyed every minute but could have used a few more days to check more off of our list. It was nice to be there before the "in-season" began. The free bus along the park loop was not running but due to less crowds we had no problem driving the loop, and finding parking.

Tracy was very easy to deal with, and available to answer a few questions as needed. When we first arrived we missed seeing the welcome letter that alerted us of an updated wifi password. Tracy got back to me in a timely manner, and although there was a little panic in the house, it was a wonderful few hours of movie watching and dinner time without any "technology". (I didn't tell the family that Tracy got back to me with new info so quickly).

We would definitely recommend the Hetzer House.

In the end of July and begining of August Blueberry bushes line the roadways and hiking trails for snacks or pies. August brings Blackberries along the park loop road and September ripens the apples found on trees through out the park.

The Free Islander Bus Service: travels past Hetzer House, Bar Harbor, The Park Loop and Island villages every 30 minutes.

Seal Harbor Beach is a kid friendly spot for swimming, sand castles, finding sand dollars and sea glass. The village of Seal Harbor is 3 miles away, a grassy park, swings and eating establishments close to the Beach make this a relaxing spot for families.
