About Kris Rogers

We are recently retired professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kris was a Radiologic Technologist and Don was an Engineering Project Manager. We were attracted to the beauty and tranquility of the area.

Kris Rogers purchased this house in 2010

Why Kris Rogers chose Yosemite Area

Our honeymoon was in Yosemite and we have shared a love of this area. We loved the open concept, exposed wood beam ceiling in the living room, the slate floors, and granite counter tops. We saw the potential in this property from the immediate yard area to the more remote areas that are picturesque and great for future trail development.

What makes this house unique

We love looking at our mountain view, the beautiful sunsets, and the visiting wildlife. While drinking coffee on our covered patio we enjoy watching the hummingbirds. Evenings are enjoyed with a glass of wine while relaxing on the swing bed under the covered pergola. Other activities include working on the property, hiking, riding bicycles and motorcycles.

Great house, great activities!

  • 4 of 5

If there was a pool, this house would get 5 stars no question! But we loved it none the less, and would return with family and friends again. If you are looking to stay near Yosemite, there isn't a better option than the howling wolf lodge!

Owner's Response: We are pleased your enjoyed your stay. We take extra care to provide amenities and all the supplies you would need to enjoy your stay in our custom built luxury home. Although I understand that a pool would be nice, there are numerous reasons that we do not have one, the severe drought being one. It is unreasonable to dock us a star for that, as we do not advertise having a pool and if that is important, then another property would be a better option. We focus instead on providing upscale wholesome entertainment for families and friends on a secluded property surrounded by nature. We wish you well in future travels. Sincerely, Kris

Breathtaking home

  • 5 of 5

My family of three generations all loved this home for many reasons. The most common one being the backyard and fun activities. The backyard was surreal. Bocce ball was popular with the younger guests and the exceptional pergola sitting area was where the adults lounged most of the time. We did make use of the putting green as well. The hummingbirds were a constant source of entertainment. The actual house was just as amazing and perfect for us in every way. The house was immaculate and had everything that we needed for preparing food. We appreciated the spices and things left for guests to aid in cooking. The bedrooms were all very nicely appointed with comfortable beds and plenty of space. The location was very convenient to visit Yosemite National Park and local towns. My dad said he would travel from Portland Oregon just to stay in this house again even if he were not visiting any of the local sites. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for an exceptional vacation home oasis. Kris is very easy to work with and responds quickly to questions.

We had such a great family time at Howling Wolf!

  • 4 of 5

We had such a great time enjoying Howling Wolf. We were all able to spread out and relax after a hot day of hiking. when the evenings cooled down we enjoyed family competitions on the badminton, putting green and bocce ball courts. The kids loved chasing the baby frogs and then letting them go back in to the little stream on the putting green.

The home was very well equipped and we enjoyed cooking in the wonderful, well-provisioned kitchen!

Because of the very hot 100 degree weather, we wished there had been some kind of water feature to cool off in after all the hiking during the day.

All in all a great visit! Would stay here again when the weather is more kind.

Kris was wonderful and so responsive to all of our questions.

Thanks again! The Gennaros and the Eichenbergers!

Owner's Response: We truly enjoyed having this great group stay with us. We love hearing that your group enjoyed your stay. We take extra care and pride in providing supplies and amenities for relaxation and entertainment. Our home was not built with renting in mind. It was designed and built by a general contractor as his retirement home. No expense was spared on the materials used for construction. We are not finished with the landscaping, but a pool at this time is not an option. This is a luxury accommodation that we are choosing to share with nature lovers. It is unfair to dock us a star for not having a pool. We have excellent air conditioning, a covered patio, and a covered pergola both with fans. If a pool is a priority then another property may be a better fit. We wish you group safe travels in the future. Sincerely, Kris

Wonderful stay in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Last weekend was our family's second trip to the lodge. It is a beautiful place to gather together play and have a conversation. The house is clean and well appointed. We all played both in the yard and inside in the bar playroom. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Netflix since my family hates commercials. I hope we can come to the mountains again in the near future.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Everything you want in a vacation home, and so much more. The house is super comfortable, with a glorious main room kitchen/great room area that's perfect for hanging out and cooking in. The backyard is almost indescribable. Honestly at first we thought it was over the top, but that was before we learned how to play bocce ball. The 9 hole putting green was awesome. So many perfect areas just to hang out in and read a book or enjoy a family dinner. Beds and linens were notably wonderful, and I'm not one to note that sort of thing. Owners were super responsive, we had one extremely minor issue and they were beyond helpful. Deposit was returned promptly. Oh, and Yosemite was unbelievably wonderful too. We've stayed in over 30 VRBO homes, and this is at the very top.

Once inside the gate it is another 10 - 15 minutes to the valley floor. The drive to the Hwy 41 gate takes 45 minutes. It is another 20-45 minutes once inside the gate depending on what trail or area you visit. Our favorite hikes are The Mist Trail, Sentinel Dome, and Glacier Point trails.
