Aloha! Welcome to Bayhouse Hana. Our one-bedroom 'Iwa Suite', with eight hundred thirty two square feet of floor space, overlooks beautiful Hana Bay. There is a queen size bed in the bedroom; the bathroom is accessible through the bedroom. A panoramic view of the bay is offered from the spacious charm of the living room and dining area; an alcove just off this area accommodates an additional two individuals on twin beds, making the unit ideal for a family of four. Bayhouse Hana has a fully furnished kitchenette that opens into the living room - dining area and enjoys the same views. At Bayhouse Hana, you'll enjoy all the wonders of the oceanside experience in complete comfort. We have chosen to exclude television in our suite, but we do provide WiFi access. * NOTE: The quoted basic rate is for a party of two; there will be an adjustment made in the quote to reflect any additional people in your party.
The sandy beach of Hana Bay is a very short stroll away. Our peaceful town has two grocery stores, a post office, a gas station and three eateries among its businesses. All are within reasonable walking distance. But if you are looking for the glitz and glitter of night club or shopping malls, this is not the end of the island for you.
In the surrounding areas lie the Haleakala National Park at Ohe'o ( a swimming, hiking and camping idyll), and Kahanu Garden, part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, home of the ancient Pi'ilanihale Heiau, largest Hawaiian temple site; the garden boasts the largest collection of varieties of breadfruit trees in the world, among other native, tropical and exotic botanical specimens.
We are on the east tip of Maui, our sunrises are magic and our evening afterglows are quite lengthy because they start before sunset, thanks to Haleakala, our resident mountain, 'home of the sun'. We get to see the sun going home for the night after a long day crossing the sky.
Looking out to sea, don't be surprised if you happen to spot a whale or two or an entire pod breaching, spouting and splashing just outside the bay; that would be between October and March. Or you may spot a sea turtle cruising along the shoreline scouring the rocks for its favorite seaweed.
If you're not a visual type, just kick back and enjoy the sounds and smells of the peaceful Pacific.
E malama pono! (take good care)

William Chang and Anita Bisquera-Chang are the owners/managers of Bayhouse Hana. They are artist-farmers residing in the community. Bayhouse Hana is a family project that was started in the mid 70s; Bill has added some features and renovated the building in recent years.
Bayhouse Hana was originally built in 1975, one of the first vacation rentals in the community. It is built on family land that was acquired some four generations back. The Iwa Suite on the ground level has been completely renovated and placed back into service. *The second floor is currently being renovated; as Bill does this work only when there are no guests in residence, though we don't have a completion date scheduled. the upstairs unit may go into operation by mid-year 2016. We will post a notice here at the appropriate time.
The location of Bayhouse Hana is ideal for its purpose. The views are fabulous and the setting is so peaceful... and you don't have far to go for anything. That is why we say it's away from it all and in the middle of things at the same time; you get the best of both.
At Bayhouse Hana you're in the middle of town and away from it all at the same time. The suite focuses on the ocean views and sounds; the house is designed to shield you from the road traffic and neighboring dwellings, it's very private but it's not isolated. You are in walking distance to all the amenities of the central town area, stores, post office, community center, snack shop, restaurant and more. The sandy beach at Hana Bay is just a short stroll down the road. Most community events are held either at the Community Hall at the Bay or in the Ball Park next to the Community Center just up the hill; both a short wall away.
The property is mostly what you imagine it, there was what appeared to be some construction on the unit, but nothing being worked on while we were there. The owners are awesome. Super responsive, loved this. We had one issue with a key being locked in the house, and they had a solution asap for us. As the Hawaiians do not spray, which I completely understand, you do have to be prepared to be very very clean. Bring extra zip-lock bags for your food. This was a great place to stay. Better than the fancy hotel on the other side of the island we came over from. Would completely stay here again. And in advance, we did our shopping before heading into Hana, as the owner suggested, and that worked out very well for us. Perfect trip.
This property has a great view and has potential to be an outstanding rental. It fills a niche market for those who seek a toxin free environment. You can look right out the living area's many windows onto a lava rock beach with crashing waves, yet you are only a 3-5 minute stroll to a gentle sandy beach for a moonlight stroll (which I loved!)...a good rest after that tiring drive to Hana. Since this is a toxins free cabin, you may see a Hawaiian sized bug or two during your stay. The house is clean and linens are line dried and fresh smelling. We brought organic essential oil insect repellant with us, which was a good match for this place. There is construction ongoing on the upper floor which makes the front of the house look...well... under construction, and is why I rate the property as having the potential to be excellent. However, that being said, the owners do not work on the property while you are there. When you get to the back where you will be staying, facing the ocean, it is quiet, lovely and private. The in-tub mat and shower curtain are ready for replacement, and I recommend investing in some cuter lawn furniture to entice the vacationer to sit there and watch the gorgeous surf...but otherwise we had no complaint. The bed is very comfortable and there are many fans in the cabin which we enjoyed. The price is quite high for what you might get on the mainland, but hey, it is Hana Maui.
The place is charming and comfortable right by the water. The view is beautiful and very conveniently located. We really enjoyed taking our time in getting to Hana. It was nice to stay overnight. When we arrived we walked to Hana beach and enjoyed the beautiful black sands. We also went to the local market picked up some meat and used the charcoal grill and enjoyed a nice dinner. The beds were comfortable and it was a nice overnight stay. Next time I plan to stay an extra day. We plan to return.
My family and I got to spend one night in paradise. This is right on the waters of Hana Bay within a couple minutes of the beach and park. We were fortunate enough to be here on a weekend and it was quite festive on the bay with the locals and at the Hana Ranch market field with a town ho'olaule'a going on. We also got to visit Wai'anapapa caves/park, the red sand beach, oheo gulch, and hike the pipiwai trail. Kids played ukulele and made breadfruit poi with the rangers after the hike.
The house was basic and very clean, hardwood floors w/throw carpets, one bedroom w/bath in room, den had other beds. This was perfect for my family. Beds were clean too, sheets were just washed and beds made (you can tell in the humid environment, right). This place is literally on the bay looking down the beach with the big hill in the background. There are ceiling fans and floor fans for everyone, if that's what you need. It has a lawn next to the unit to sit out and watch the locals swimming/boogie boarding at the beach, guys fishing on the pier, kids jumping from the dock. There were also lawn chairs and a bbq for use.
Overlooking Hana Bay and a short walk to the beach. Rooms are clean but rustic. This is like going to a weekend lake house. Great location but Spartan. Has nice views of Hana Bay and ocean waves crashing is nice to sleep to. 10 miles from Seven pools. Short drive to restaurants and stores. If you are looking for a high end place to stay this is NOT it. It is nice clean bed with good view. Seems overpriced, but it is in Hana.
Adding pictures of the inside would help so people know what they are getting.
After a day traveling the road to Hana in the rain, my family use Bayhouse Hana to eat, relax, shower and sleep. It is exactly that, no frills but great location and adequate facilities. If you are looking for luxury this might not be your first choice, however for me and my family, when we make back to Hana we will rent from Bill again. Great location to beaches and town!
Be aware that not all cell phone services are available in the Hana area.
Bayhouse Hana is located in a residential area. It is not a place to hold a party, so if you are planning to entertain, please seek another location.
We do not provide a television set in the suite; however, you may bring your own laptop or tablet to access your television shows over WiFi.
