Why The Owner chose Coastal North Carolina

First and foremost, welcome to my newly renovated little slice of heaven.

Call My Bluff was built in 1947 and was originally a fish camp. Fishermen came to relax for a week or weekend of fishing and preparing and eating their catch. If you look above the bed in the bedroom, you can see where the stove pipe was vented through the top of the cottage to heat the fishermen. Up until the winter of 2014, the back porch was screened-in exposing the bathroom to the elements. Even though this was the quaint original structure, there were some things that needed to be modified to make this a cottage comfortable for all seasons.

Enjoy the new outdoor shower, private porch with new case windows, insulation and new windows throughout, steps to the 70’ dock below, upgraded furniture, kitchen cookware and flatware, new steps and handrails to the roadside entrance, new shady umbrella for the dining table on the riverside deck and a 32” smart TV with cable and wireless internet.

Bring your book, a fishing pole and some summer beverages, and you should be equipped for your vacation getaway at Call My Bluff Cottage on the Neuse River at Minnesott Beach, North Carolina. If you are single and need a retreat or if you are a couple seeking a romantic getaway, this is for you! For small families, it is a cozy spot if you love the river and relaxing on the screened-in porch, set for privacy and relaxation. Fishermen welcome. No pets please.

The cottage rents for $825 per week, $325 per weekend, and $100 for each additional night. The cottage will accommodate 4. Go to vrbo to view Call My Bluff. Enter the #359773. If you would like to see the larger cottage next to Call My Bluff, go to vrbo and enter the # 245297 to view Journey’s End Cottage which accommodates 8. Journey’s End is the oldest structure along this stretch of the Neuse River. Old but equipped with everything that you need to make a week or weekend vacation optimal.

What makes this cottage unique

Relaxation, fishing, a sunset walk on the waterfront, meals with a view of the Neuse River, kayaking, shopping, and dining in Oriental, Beaufort or New Bern.

Relaxing!!!

  • 5 of 5

Hi Terry, As always we had a great time. The cousins stayed at Journey's End and we were in Call My Bluff. One of the cousins took a kayak at and paddled upstream with the dolphins!! Needless to say it was the highlight of his week.... I saw a couple of hummingbirds and thought about buying a feeder. I did get a sock feeder for the finches. :) Watching the river was so relaxing that we didn't want to leave....we just know we'll be back again.

Relaxing and Unique Retreat for Mother-Daughter Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I went to this beautiful retreat for a Mother's Day weekend getaway. We could not have asked for anything better! The view from above the bluff is unique and makes it seem as if you are floating above the water. The charming nautical and rustic touches made it seem like we had stepped back in time, but with all the conveniences of the modern world (without any of the stress!). The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we could have needed and all the furniture was comfortable and inviting. Although the bathroom was located in the enclosed porch, that was just another touch that added to the uniqueness of the cottage! We loved the original touches from the fisherman's cabin, such as the hardwood floors, exposed beams, and original hardware. Terry was a joy to communicate with and made sure we had everything we could possibly need, including recommendations for places to dine and fun outings to experience around the area. Our favorite activity at the cottage was sitting in the screened in porch and on the bluff, enjoying the view of the water as we talked and read.

This was my second time enjoying the relaxing experience of staying at Call my Bluff. The first time I went with my husband for a second honeymoon and it was just as perfect as this time! For a romantic weekend or a mother-daughter weekend, you could not ask for anything better. Call My Bluff will always hold a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to return!

What a Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

I felt like I had gone back in time with breezes blowing through the screens all through the cottage--so quaint, pristine and stylish and such lovely, spacious grounds surrounding Call My Bluff. Lunch on the screened porch was a delight but the VIEW was spectacular! Very comfortable--all the amenities at one's fingertips!

Quiet Relaxing Time

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I went down for a quiet relaxing weekend and that is exactly what we got. The cabin is perfect for us. We like rustic and simple. We spent a lot of time just sitting on the porch staring at the water and reading. The uniqueness of being on a bluff above the water but being right on the water allowed us to have a much better view. We had all the doors and windows open at night with the cool breeze blowing through and listening to the water lap on the shore as we cuddled under the warm quilt. We are going back this weekend and spending three nights and we have it rented for a week in the summer also. We have found our rustic quiet getaway cabin without the costs and labor of ownership. It is so good to get out of the city and away from our constantly busy lives. I am looking to bringing my double kayak down and getting some on the water time. Many relaxing thanks.

A cottage that's a work of art!

  • 5 of 5

Call My Bluff is as designer-perfect as anything I've ever seen. The rustic aspect has been turned to pure charm and every time you look around, there is a special touch you hadn't noticed before. The view is stellar and the bed is comfy and the kitchen is well-equipped and the outdoor shower is a bonus! Can't imagine a more delightful cottage on the wonderful Neuse River!

Quaint and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I capped off a trip through the Carolina's with a two-night, mid-week, off-season stay at Call My Bluff. The owner, Terry, has done a masterful job of transforming this former fishing cottage into a quaint and comfortable abode. There are many nice and original touches, ranging from the nautical-themed sconces to a huge swing-up window over the kitchen sink. The bed in the master was very comfortable and a futon in the main room would make for good sleeping as well. The loft would provide a charming nest for anyone's children. And therein is what is perhaps most unique about the cottage. It is the perfect get away for couples or singles of any age, or it can accomodate a family of six (though privacy would be at a minimum). Speaking of privacy, a quirk of the cottage is that access to the bathroom is via the enclosed front porch on the road side. But, Terry spoils her guests with plush terrycloth bathrobes to wear while going to and from. And, for outdoor shower worshippers like me, Terry has a world-class one. The cool, rainy weather kept us from enjoying the screened in back porch and the exposed deck, but the river view was spectacular none the less. Despite overnight temps under 50 degrees, the cottage was so cozy, we didn't need to use the space heater that Terry had fired up for us. Communication with Terry was excellent from start to finish. She was very responsive by e-mail and phone and anticipated our every question. She also has an extensive list of recommended sights and eateries, which is especially helpful for guests like us who were first-timers to the area and had no time for trial and error. Don't-miss opportunities include eating breakfast at the Live Oak Grill, literally two minutes away on foot, and buying fresh seafood from Keith at the Endurance, just this side of Oriental. We also had a great lunch at 247 Craven in New Bern. I could go on, but suffice it to say that we plan to come back for a longer stay in season.
