Why Ken and Cheri Hunt chose Texas Gulf Coast

I discovered this wonderful, peacefull, remote, quite little slice of heaven eleven years ago. For the first year we spent the week ends in our motorhome. Ten years ago we built our home, it is copied from the lighthouse keeper's house located in Mandiville, Lousiana. The house is very unique and offers a comfortable and enjoyable haven away from the daily grind of every day life.

What makes this house unique

Being located on Follett's Island, which is a barrier island and free of polution, the night skys are a sight to behold. The stars are so bright they appear to be dangling from a string. It is not unusual to see several shooting stars at night. Wheather you are chasing trout, redfish, flounder or taking a nap in one of the hammocks you will feel like you are a million miles from the grind of your daily life. Time passes quickly and you will be looking forward to your next stay as I always do.

Awesome Family Weekend in Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this property. Not only is it an extraordinary property, the owners are so pleasant and make the experience very "user-friendly". So many beach rental properties have crazy rules (cannot check-in until after 4:00pm and must check-out by 11:00am, no more than 4 cars at any time, etc.). These owners respect your time and really work with you to make things uncomplicated. The property is easy to access and is not in a congested beach house neighborhood. Being on the canal makes it easy for everyone to fish from the pier or drop the kayak/boat into the water and head out to the bay. The home is beautiful, and the owner adds lots of "touches" to really make it special. The beds are premier hotel quality-so we slept soundly after playing all day. The photos don't do the house justice. The home is large, and so nice. This is the ticket for a great, private vacation beach home.

Fishing Weekend

  • 5 of 5

There is not much to say besides this house was AWESOME! It is very well kept, in great shape and off of the main drag. The house is as close to the beach as you can get without the waves hitting the porch and the fishing was excellent in the canal behind the house. We had no intentions of trying until we started seeing reds and trout swimming in the light and in about an hour of playing around caught over 15 reds and some keeper trout. It is a great place to relax and forget about life for as long as you want to stay. I will be coming back... not soon enough. I also want to thank Cheri as she was very easy to deal with and a very pleasant person to rent from.

Truly a little peice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here for the weekend 9/30/11-10/2/11. We had the most wonderful time. The house was very clean and beds extremely comfortable. The kids absolutely loved the loft area. We cought fish and crab in the canal and took the dogs and kids across to the beach. If you plan on fishing at night I would bring a spot light for the boathouse, there are lights up under the house but several of them are out. The neighbor was extremely nice and he let us use his dock/fishing area at night with the lights. Also if you like to eat outside and play games outside as we do I would bring another fold out table or 2. there are plenty of chairs and hammocks but we could only find one small table for the deck underneath the house. We couldnt find a trash can for the outside as well so had to use trash bags instead. I do not have much negative to say about this place. You get the best of both worlds, the bay to fish in and the beach as well which you have views of both from the top deck. The only negative for us is that a weekend is way to short, we did not want to leave and cannot wait to go back. The owner was very helpful and a pleasure. Thank you soo much for sharing your home with us. It truly is a little peice of paradise!!!!

Truly, A Little Piece of Paradise!!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed with another family at this house in July of this year. We had an absolutely wonderful time!!! We crabbed with the nets provided from the dock, enjoyed time at the beach with the dogs, cooked, played games, and relaxed on the porch. I took pictures of the birds and sunsets. The home was well equipped for cooking and the family area large for the group dinners and after dinner games. We did not fish, but I saw a lot of people wade fishing in Christmas Bay. The owners were absolutely delightful and we would definitely rent this house again.

Best you can get

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this home and LOVED IT. The house has everything that you need for a relaxing time at the ocean. We loved that the girls could be out fishing until late in the evening and they loved catching crabs off the dock. Lots of great dinners! We will be back for many years to come. Thanks for sharing your love with us. See you soon.

Owner's Response: Our home is located in Key Largo, the canal offers easy access to Christmas Bay, Drum Bay, Galveston West Bay, San Luis Pass, a ten minute ride to the Gulf of Mexico or the Intercostal Waterway. This area offers some of the best fishing on The Texas Gulf Coast, producing large redfish, trout and flounder. Night fishing in the canal under the lights is also very productive. Abundant amounts of crabs using the crab trap provided or hand lines. Our hope is that our home will provide unforgettable memories for your family as it has for ours.
