This newly built house provides the ease of the Caribbean indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Tropical hardwoods, beautiful design and modern amenities make Casita Bonita an ideal destination.
There are two bedrooms one with queen sized bed, one double, 2 private ensuite bathrooms with hot water showers, fans, shelving for hanging/storing clothing and luggage, and a safe.
Sit back in the covered living room area on love-seat adirondac couches, or in the hammock, and watch toucans and monkeys pass overhead. Fully stocked kitchen with gas range.
A tropical sanctuary, the lot at Casa Bella has fruit trees, flowering bushes, ylang-ylang, open spaces and shady zones. Perfect for flowers and bird-watching. Two hammocks out front of the casita await you.
The house is on both municipal and well water systems. Water is abundant and clean.
There is secure parking at the rear of the main house.
From the lot is a 3 minute walk to the public access path to Playa Chiquita Beach, rated the best beach on this side! Playa Chiquita Beach is sheltered by an off-shore reef making it a kid-friendly place to swim. With series of sandy coves you can splash and swim, or wade and wallow in the coral fringed pools that decorate the points.
Centrally located in Playa Chiquita Village, Casa Bella is tucked away in its private spot a mere 1 minute walk from the main road. Just turn in next to Alice Ice Cream Bar.
We are on site and happy to help you find what you need in Playa Chiquita. We are very approachable and full of local knowledge. Looking for a new experience? Ask about the many different tours our friend Fred offers...he can customize to meet individual needs and interests.
Playa Chiquita is minutes from Puerto Viejo, Limon. This area is an off-the-tracks surfing destination in winter months, and snorkeling and diving in the summer. People come here all year round to view wildlife and experience the Caribbean culture through music and the colourful character of the region.
Another reason to visit? Food!!!
Food is the best reason to come here! From Puerto Viejo, through Cocles Beach, Playa Chiquita to Manzanillo you can savour local Caribbean delights and world-class cuisine. Italian, Argentinian, French, Thai, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Indian, Jamaican...the flavours abound. People are coming to experience the best eating in Costa Rica, and some of the best eating in the world! (see owner profile for some of my 'best of').

That photo is of me with my niece and nephew when they visited!
We are from Canada where my husband is a carpenter/contractor. We have combined the endurance of Canadian building standards with the beauty of local tropical hardwoods and other artistic touches to create a house that is suited to the Carribean, comfortable, bright and clean. This project has brought us to Costa Rica for the past 9 winters and we have fallen in love with the place.
One of the main reasons we've stayed is the food. Foodies of the world should be put on notice, this is a destination for all who love to eat! Some of my favourite meals: Ceviche from Marisqueria Mopri, Shawarma Pita from Pita Bonita, Asian Buffet Night at Chili Rojo's, Tenderloin in Green Peppercorn Sauce from Pura Gula, Prawn and Papaya salad from Jungle Love, any of the curries at Loco Natural, Cappuccino and Banana Chocolate muffin from Caribbean's Coffee House, and anything on the menu from Bread and Chocolate. That's just the international flavour...the local cusine you can experience at sodas like Selvin's , Tamara's, Miss Lidia's and Maxi's is phenomenal. Try a whole grilled red snapper with all the fixin's, chicken is caribbean sauce, or 'rondon' seafood soup. Wash it down with a mojito or a pinacolada and you'll know you're in paradise.
Erinn purchased this house in 2006
Playa Chiquita is a special place. International flavour blends here with an established local population to create a funky and colourful community - and it is a real community of friendly and creative people.
For us the beach is a real draw. Playa Chiquita beach is sheltered by an off-shore reef making it a kid-friendly place to swim. From a series of sandy coves to the coral fringed pools that decorate the points you have your choice: swim, snorkle, wade or wallow.
We like to walk the long lonely stretches of beach from here at Playa Chiquita to Manzanillo (2 hours), ending the day with a legendary seafood platter at Maxi's Restaurant.
When I first saw our lot I knew we'd hit the jackpot. Tall trees, lime trees, clusters of flowers and sunny open spaces make an ideal spot for birds, sloths and butterflies to drift, fly or hang about.
I feel most at home when I'm lounging on the deck, drinking my mojito with limes fresh from my trees and eating fresh cut salsa with wild cilantro picked from my own yard.
With 8 restaurants/cafes, a grocery store, clothing store, massage spa, martial arts studio, yoga centre, Wednesday farmers market, chocolate art cafe and bakery a flip flop away, Playa Chiquita is a small but vibrant village.
Lately we've become addicted to the cappuccinos at Cafe Chiquita. It's a fantastic place to hang out and watch the people flip flop or coast by on their bikes. The lemon cake is awesome. For dinner we've been spending a lot of time at Pura Gula. Pancho is such a great guy, and the food and drink are fantastic.
The road from here to Manzanillo (14km round trip) is so peaceful in the morning that we often go for runs, heading out before 7:30 so that we rarely even see a car. Boot camp or marathon training would be great goals to strive for here. The warm air keeps you loose and limber.
If you want external motivation for fitness there are yoga classes, kick-boxing, and a professional personal trainer and martial arts instructor all happy to add you to their clientelle. Then you can end your day with a massage at Body and Mind Spa. We have it all on this little half-kilometre stretch of road!
Casa Bella is a gem. Erin and Darren are such incredible hosts and they made our stay so comfortable! The place is beautifully kept, clean and has everything we needed. We initially stayed in the two bedroom smaller house, which was so much fun. We are a married couple with a 2-year-old child and we brought our nanny with us (great idea btw)! If you need a lot of privacy, this might not be the best choice, I would go with the bigger main house for that. We didn't really care and found it fun and entertaining at times...you can hear EVERYTHING everyone says or does at all times...(bathrooms...). With that said, we absolutely loved it. The outdoor kitchen and joined balcony space is perfect, and it felt like we were camping outdoors, even though we were indoors. It was a great jungle experience.
The sounds of the jungle are literally in your bedroom, for good and bad. If you are one to care about this, maybe you should rethink spending time in that region anyway because it is almost to avoid it. If you are low maintenance and don't care and actually want to experience nature, this is a PERFECT spot.
The main house is LUXURY. It is beautiful and spacious. We stayed there the last week (out of 3 weeks total) and had a great time as well though we did miss the small house at times and feeling like you sleep IN the jungle.
The place is located perfectly between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo, about 25 mi bike ride to either direction.
Rent a bike and enjoy riding on the main road, seeing wild life everywhere you look.
There is a supermarket about 5 min walk from the house which was SO convenient with a small child, we could get groceries pretty much any time we needed them. There is also an AMAZING tiny farmer market happening next door every Wednesday which we loved! The fruit and vegetables were to die for.
There are a handful of really great restaurants within walking distance and some about 10 min on the bike that were just as good as some of the places we love in NYC.
Overall, we can't wait to come back again, the experience was nothing short than excellent. We miss Casa Bella, Erin, Darren and Pipa (the dog).
Who could not want to stay in the jungle like setting where the the jungle meets the Caribbean Sea. We were on the family holiday so stayed in the big house and two of the smaller cabins. We mainly used the big house for gatherings and meals. Our accommodations were clean and well equipped. Erinn and Darren were wonderful hosts and made our visit extra special.
There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance. The beaches are spectacular. Casa Bella has lots of lush vegetation so we saw so much tropical wildlife right from our balcony. Many people pay big $$$ to see what just passes through this amazing piece of paradise.
We would love to come back! This is the first time we have gone from the Costa Rica resort experience to a vacation rental. We are so glad we did.
My family and I the pleasure of staying at Casa Bella for three glorious weeks in November. We rented both the main house and the casita. The minute we arrived we felt like we had come home. The homes are beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. The property is absolutely heavenly. Words cannot describe our experience here. Sitting on the deck each day was entirely surreal. Sloths, monkey's, toucans, parrots and humingbirds were just some of the daily visitors. The location is perfect. Minutes to walk to all amenities (restaurants, groceries, beach and bar). Bikes can be rented to venture out a little further if you feel the urge to. Puerto Viejo is nearby and arrangments can be made for a variety of adventures from there. For those who are looking for a vacation away from the resorts without sacrificing ease and genuine comfort/hospiality I cannot recommend this home enough. Erinn and Darren are amazing hosts and I cannot wait to return.
Casa Bella was the perfect house for me to settle for six weeks this winter. Casa Bella is located in the wonderful town of Playa Chiquita, offering all you need within walking distance. I rented a bike and headed out most days to explore the many beaches and communities along the coast. It was wonderful to live without needing a car! Living in this lush jungle environment, soaking in salt water, eating local fresh food, daily outdoor living, I have never felt healthier. Erinn and Darren have very high standards of property maintenance and care for their guests with utmost attention. I loved the property, the environment, the amazing and constant flow of wildlife, the adventure opportunities, and the mix of people from all over. My first Canadian Snowbird experience gets five stars!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, Tourists without a Car, Adventure Seekers
