Just a 1 hr/45 min drive from Manhattan, this charming 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom rustic cottage nestled on 2.5 wooded acres in Sullivan County retains all the character of it’s 1940’s origins while still satisfying urban-weekender expectations with a clean & artful recent renovation.
Set at the lush-fern edge of a pristine, trout-stocked lake, the gentle waterfall rush under the covered bridge just off the back deck will soothe your troubles away in between the swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, skiing & tennis playing – yes, work on that back-hand in a mixed doubles match (deer vs people) or just catch some rays as an observer on the private regulation size court.
The property also features a 2 car garage, hi-speed DSL, phone, TV-DVD only, large open living area with fireplace, open eat-in kitchen, rec room with pool table & outdoor patio facing the water with gas grille. Other accessible amenities include 1 rowboat (seat 5 max), 1 canoe, 2 kayaks & 1 fishing rod.
Nearby activities & points of interest abound, including the Delaware River with rafting & canoeing (7 min drive), NJ High Point National Park, Bethel Woods Arts Center, Kadampa Meditation Center, Malibu Dude Ranch with horseback riding/rodeos & an endless list of quaint towns with unique, boutique main streets offering area goods, crafts, organic foods, art galleries & a diverse array of restaurant cuisine, both fine-dining & casual.
This property is located as part of the historical 3,000 acres known as Brookwood Farms upon which Brookwood Manor --a distinctive Tudor-style mansion-- was built along with it's architectural companion boat house --the only original structure remaining today of a by gone era. Some of the history of this unique area --once the playground of the ultra New York City rich at the turn of the 20th Century-- can be enjoyed here: http://sandpond.org
Lovely back deck with BBQ overlooking an historic property, lakeside access with kayaks and fishing plus a tennis court all 10 minutes from the Delaware River for more river rafting fun.
Wonderfully quiet home with serene surroundings! This home has it all. We enjoyed the peaceful long walks on secluded country road, boating, fishing, shopping at quaint antique markets or just lounging by the outdoor firepit. Our stay here was the perfect vacation to relax in nature but still with the comforts of home. The property and home are very clean and had supplies on hand for all our needs. Ann was more than helpful and we appreciated her taking the time to send me information on the history of the area. We would absolutely stay again.
We spent a lovely and relaxing week at the end of August and utilized the canoes almost every single day. The house is absolutely beautiful with lake access right off the property (a stream that leads to the lake within a minute or two). The back deck is so peaceful with a perfect view of the stream and the charming covered bridge. It is the perfect combination of quiet and private but not isolated. The kitchen is spacious and very well stocked with pots/pans etc; there is a grill and a fire pit in the back which we used regularly (smores!). The house was very clean and comfortable - we felt right at home (Anne has great taste, you will love the sophisticated, eclectic decor). The surrounding area is just stunning - lots of places to hike, canoe/raft down the Delaware and just enjoy the scenery. We only stayed for one week but will probably stay for two weeks next year - we were not ready to leave! Ann was very easy to work with and quick to respond. We definitely recommend this property!!!
Went up Labor Day weekend 2016 with my two kids and a few friends. The house was a terrific country house. The stream was 100 ft from the house and it kept my 11 yr old son and 15 yr old daughter entertained for 3 days with canoeing, kiaking, and fishing. The house was clean and had everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The owner Ann responded to the emails whenever there was a question in a quick and timely manor. Would definitely recommend this place to others.
We spent two weeks at Pine Knot and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The house is modern with 2 full baths and a fully equipped kitchen. The location on a little tributary makes it easy to jump into a kayak and paddle up to the lake - which while not huge - is beautiful. We played lots of tennis and spent lots of time outside. The area is quite rural and there is not a lot to do or see in the nearby towns. We did drive up to Bethel woods (about 30 minutes away) to see the Woodstock Museum and the beautiful grounds. There were no concerts while we were there but we hear that they have them often. All in all - perfect.
The property itself is enchanting. The photos don't really do it justice: the decor is ecclectic and tasteful, and the stonework surrounding the property is really something. Given the proximity to the tri-state cities, we were surprised by how utterly quiet the area was. It's a hidden gem, with some small-town quaintness and plenty of access to nature.
The nature might be the highlight of this property. We were able to observe many birds, a family of chipmunks, numerous bunny rabbits, an adorable fawn, a turtle, a frog, and countless other scurrying creatures. If you have kids and would like them to get a window on cute wildlife, it's a major addition.
Ann's home is really a high end luxury home at an affordable price. The home itself has several interesting rare finds. Ann was a great host, available whenever we had a question. The property is amazing and I highly recommend taking the boats out onto the lake. This is by far the best VRBO residence that we have used and am planning on booking again. This is a,rare find.
