Simple Home Needs Better Maintenance

My family stayed at the Solana a few years back and loved it so we decided to rent a house here again. If all you need is a place to stay the house is good. Our family likes to cook when on vacation and the kitchen was not fully prepared for it. There are limited appliances and no grill which was disappointing. No ice maker either.

When we first arrived we saw dust and crumbs on the dining table, throughout the week we found a dead flea and roaches (of all sizes) in the bedrooms and kitchen. Pest control came out the third day we were there. Pest control said there was no sign of infestation and stated they came in from us coming in and out of the house. The first day we were okay with his answer as the week went on, we believed other wise. Who told pest control to come out anyways? I think it's an ongoing issue they have.

The sheets of the cover of one of the beds was full of stains that were gone after washing them. When we used the dining the table for the first time on the 5th day we were there was a huge stain of sticky spill under one of the placemats that was removed after cleaning it. A few things are broken in the home, drawer to the dresser, pool light, back door lock. The twin beds move with any movement you make, might have something lose or broken.

The rental company was great and heard our concerns about the house just fine. They were courteous and answered emails right away. Deposit was returned within two days.

The house is good if all you need is a place to stay. The cleaning company is not doing a good job and the roaches need to be under control. We became a bit disgusted after being there a week and seeing roaches greet us every other day.

We would rent from Florida home again just because of their service if the cleaning company did a better job.

We are very sorry to hear about the cleaning issues you encountered and have already taken actions with the cleaning company as this is not the standard we want to provide to our guests. As for the bugs and the Pest Control Service during your stay, this was the regular scheduled treatment as the home is in a professional Pest Control Program. We have contacted the company to come out again and re-spray. During the Summer Month Florida some bugs might find there way inside the house, but we of course take it seriously if guests encounter multiple issues and are always just a phone call away and do have 7 days a week emergency pest control service available. We arrived late Saturday and went to the grocery store. When we returned to the rental property I found a couple roaches hiding in the pantry and crawling across the carpeted floor. We passed these off as Florida bugs that night however when we went to make dinner on Sunday the roaches became active and were crawling up the wall, across the countertops, on the cooking utensils sitting on the cabinet. I contacted the rental company via email and didn't hear back (I did not call because they asked not to call unless it was an emergency). This morning we turned the stove on and again the roaches came out. I called the rental company and was told they never had this complaint. I had to follow up to make sure pest control came out and received a response that we may see some dead roaches from them being sprayed, instead of, we will send a cleaning crew out. We returned back to the rental late after spending all day in the park to roaches on the countertops and floor...they were not dead but alive! I contacted management again, no response via email since we returned after hours. Who wants to cook in a kitchen with roaches (no bleach to clean the counters).

Not only is the home unsanitary but it isn't clean. I went to use a towel and found "black hair" on it...the kind of hair you only find in certain body areas, the dust on the door frames are think and nasty. We pulled the cover back on the pool and it appeared to have stain lines (as a pool owner that occurs with algae). The carpet is stained up and dirty. Smoke detector batteries are not updated as the detectors were going off.

I am very disappointed in this property as well as the management as they did not offer any restitution for our inconvenience. I hate to give a bad review but when you go on vacation you shouldn't have to worry about killing roaches, afraid to sleep in the beds in fear that they may not be as clean as they should be, making sure you do not take your shoes off, not being able to use the kitchen and just feeling like bugs are crawling all over your skin.

I booked this home because it had good reviews and because my prior rental had conflict with booking between the owners and management. I will not book another property thru this management company. I would have left a better review if management would have rectified the situation other than calling pest control and telling me we may have dead roaches laying around when we actually had live ones crawling all over the kitchen.

As per our communication with you Management was looking into compensation as soon as the problem came up and we had notified you BEFORE we received your review, with the confirmation that a partial Refund will be issued, which you have received. We understand that the situation with the roaches was very disappointing, and we had responded right away once you notified us of the problem, the Pest control Technician came out same day and we have gotten back to you before the end of business day confirming that the home has been sprayed. This was the first time anything like this has happened as the homes are on a regular Pest Control Schedule and we do take this very seriously. Unfortunately we did not have any other home to move you to as everything was booked, otherwise we would have certainly offered that option. It certainly is not that we do not care, but understand your frustration. The home is professionally cleaned after each guests departure and all beds, linen and towels are washed every time. The carpets are periodically steam cleaned, but unfortunately not all guest are as respectful and not all stains will come out. Owner just renovated and painted the entire kitchen, living room area etc during his stay this January...and we had no roaches, not even the guest that stayed the weekend before you had any problems, so we were not aware, otherwise we would have taken action before your arrival.
