|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Come and enjoy the charming Great Brook Cottage located approximately ten minutes from Sunday River Ski Resort, ten minutes from Bethel and four miles away from the Grafton Notch State Park.
It has two small bedrooms, a loft which we use as a sleeping den (our kids' favorite place), cozy living and dining areas. It is tastefully furnished for year round enjoyment. It also has an over-sized back porch with charcoal grill and a fire pit.
Ski at Sunday River, Mt. Abram, or Black Mountain of Maine, until you can't walk any longer, then come back and sit by the fire in the large, beautiful, stone fireplace in the center of the cottage, built with stones from the Great Brook. We supply the firewood, stacked on the front porch, and more in the shed.
Snow shoe on the property or head towards any of the mountains for a challenging adventure. One of our favorite places is Rt. 113 in Gilead (20-minute drive from the house), which is closed for traffic in Winter. Enjoy the completely frozen world alongside the Wild River.
In early Spring, listen to the Great Brook, which runs from the Puzzle Mountain, and occasionally breaks through the ice. Fish for rainbow or brook trout in the Bear river a short walk away.
Summer is a great time for kayaking or canoeing on the Androscoggin river and the Umbagog lake, mountain biking and hiking as well as golfing at the Sunday River resort.
Our house is located on the Scenic Byway (State Rt. 26) which connects with the New Hampshire Scenic Byway and passes through Grafton Notch State Park. The Bear River parallels the road for much of the way. Enjoy spectacular scenery and foliage viewing; stop by for a short hike to Screw Auger Falls and Mother Walker Falls.
So much to do, welcome to the Great Brook Cottage!
This A-frame house is a quaint and Bert well kept little treasure. Great lay out for a couple with two or theee kids. We spent our X-mas eve and cooked dinner in the well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the books, artwork and fire place a lot. We'll come back for trout fishing in the summer!
We had a great experience staying for an anniversary weekend at Great Brook Cottage! Everything was super clean and ready for us, only 10 minutes from Sunday River! We loved the fireplace and cozy atmosphere at the cottage.
Thank you for a wonderful experience we would love to come again!
Property is very conveniently located for discovering the White Mountains and Bethel, ME areas. Cabin is unique, comfortable and adequately furnished (except silverware which could be updated and expanded). If utilizing the upstairs MB, take care in navigating the stairs at night to the bath downstairs. 'Thought we might miss having cable tv but Wi-Fi was sufficient to access our UVERSE service for watching baseball playoffs. If looking for something adventurous, try the Eyebrow Loop hike at nearby Grafton Notch State Park. We would certainly return to the property if in the area.
My boyfriend and I and another couple stayed at Great Brook Cottage for Labor Day Weekend. It was a trip to remember. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck, with a grill and fire pit (and fully stocked wood pile!) We took turns enjoying peaceful moments on the hammock next to the brook in the backyard. The location is excellent as it took us only a little while to arrive at hiking spots and swimming holes. Miroslav is an excellent host and the house had what we needed. I loved cooking in the kitchen and marinating meat during the day so we could come home hungry and grill out! The best part of the trip - My boyfriend proposed to me at a swimming hole near Sunday River which made the trip one that I will never forget!
It was a pleasure to stay at such a wonderful cottage. It was extremely clean and everything was there that we needed, from a BBQ grill,firepit and all the wood needed. Spent the weekend exploring the various waterfalls that were so close by. Surely will be back!
This was a wonderful place to stay and possibly my favorite vacation rental ever. The property is gorgeous and well kept inside and out, and completely surrounded on three sides by beautiful tall trees. A running brook borders the property near the house to one side and can be heard from inside the house with the windows open; it's a wonderful way to fall asleep each night. We enjoyed cooking inside (the kitchen is stocked with tools for that), making a fire in the pit outside, and playing badminton in the back yard. We looked forward to coming back each day after our hikes and wedding festivities in the area. Ours was a summer stay, but the cottage is clearly also intended to be a cozy winter retreat, and it seems like it would be wonderful for that too. The hosts are thoughtful, gracious, and very responsive. I'd take this over the beach any time of year.
