About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2 TOT#1096N

The Speakeasy Cottage is located one hour north of San Francisco nestled on a 20 acre private ranch off of Scenic Hwy 12 in Kenwood, CA. Our late Aunt Sally Stanford purchased the ranch in 1961 as a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. She was San Franciscos's most famous Madame and Sausalito's former Mayor. We named this rental 'Speakeasy Cottage' as a tribute to her illustrious career.

The cottage is located right in the heart of Sonoma County wine country in an area that is well known as the Valley of the Moon.

We are registered with the county and our Transient Occupany Tax Number is # 1096N.

- The quite hours (10pm-7am) to be observed by all guests.

- 1 vehicle per bedroom allowed.

- Maximum of 2 guests inside the rental are allowed.

Lovely Kenwood

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed my stay in the Speakeasy cottage on the Sally Stanford Ranch. The property is studded with really old oak trees and deer who kept me company in the morning outside my bedroom window. You have privacy but also the comfort of others nearby in the other houses and cottages on the property. Judy was a wonderful hostess and was available for any questions I had. And you are near wineries, restaurants, Glen Ellen and so much more. I will be back soon!

2nd Stay At Same Location!

  • 5 of 5

Yes, this was my second stay - If you like to travel int he way I mention below, then look no further and book the Speakeasy Cottage ;)

Have no agenda, the cottage is perfect for staying in or going out. Full kitchen so you don't have to eat every meal out, heating and cooling for perfect temps, robes for after a hot shower, outdoor patio for stargazing and grilling, comfortable bed and very quiet for a great night's sleep, PLENTY of room inside the cottage and cozy to stay in and watch a movie, also great internet to work remotely.

The location is just above Sonoma, Glen Ellen and Kenwood, just below Santa Rosa. Right up the road is hiking and running trails and right down the road is Chateau St Jean for an excellent white ;) Book a Sonoma wine tour for a day or head up to Sonoma Lake for breath-taking views. Head over to the ocean, explore the different wine regions, it's all within access to you here. (I do prefer the Sonoma side to the Napa side, I find it a bit more relaxed and less commercialized - but I could be wrong, just my perspective.)

So if this is how you like to travel, book the Speakeasy, you'll love it.

Great cottage in great location!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have loved our stay in the Speakeasy Cottage more! It's a wonderfully kept and well appointed cottage -- spotlessly clean; well stocked; a good size; with a nice enclosed backyard. The owners are very kind and responsive and attended to every small detail/request. It's on a lovely lot - the family ranch - great for walking around and the kids biking out front. The location can't be beat - easy access to all of Sonoma Valley, with wineries and restaurants right nearby. We will definitely be back!

Charming, cozy ranch cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the one bedroom cottage, "Speakeasy." Each of the cottages on the ranch has a name, relative to the history of Sally Standford. The ranch is very quiet and there is a lovely walking path around the property. The cottage is clean and comfortable, bed is comfortable with plenty of linens and toiletries provided. The deck is secluded and private with a grill and heater available. The owners also provided a welcome package of wine and cheese! The ranch is located across the highway from several wineries and is situated appx midway between Old Sonoma and Santa Rosa, and we were able to go to many towns and attractions in about 20 minutes. The owners provide much information about the area including nearby restaurants. Owners are also very responsive to e-mails and text messages. Loved our stay here and would book again if we have an opportunity to visit Sonoma again. The day we left to return home is the day the fires started, and the owners were kind enough to keep us posted on the condition of themselves and the ranch. All safe thank God!!!

Beautiful one bedroom cottage equipped with everything you could possibly need during your visit.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was in the perfect location. Several of the most popular Sonoma winners were within a five minute ride from the property. Kunde, Saint Francis, and Kenwood vineyards were across the street. Fabulous local restaurants and markets. We even enjoyed barbecuing and dining outside on the patio area behind the cottage. The cottage itself was nicely decorated with high end furnishings. The mattress on the bed was very comfortable, which is always important to know when traveling. The cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owner Judy was available and very accommodating to our needs. In addition to the convince to some of the best wineries several state parks were also within a five minute ride. We enjoyed getting up early and going for a hike and than coming back to the cottage for breakfast. We arrived to the refrigerator being stocked with breakfast essentials, a lovely bottle of wine and local cheese as well. If you’re looking for the perfect location to enjoy a very relaxing visit to wine country don’t miss an opportunity to stay at The Sally Stanford Ranch. We’re very glad we did.!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the Speakeasy Cottage and we could not have been more pleased! It was clean, spacious and really just perfect! So many nice, personal touches! Fresh flowers on the table, a bottle of wine waiting for us in the refrigerator as well as coffee, half and half, cheese, crackers, cereal, milk, juice...the list goes on! The location was great! We loved that we could come back to the cottage at the end of the day and sit outside by a fire sipping a glass of wine. There was everything you could possibly need there and then some! They really thought of everything! We would highly recommend it!!
