Overview

Kailua-Kona Condo Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom condo 30 feet from the ocean. Sleeps 4. Free WiFi, A/C, full kitchen.

Condo D-24 at the Kona Reef is an absolutely oceanfront, 3rd floor, fully furnished, non-smoking, one bedroom condo with a complete kitchen. The lanai (balcony) is located only 30 feet from the ocean. There is terrific tide pooling and exploring in the lava rocks. And if it's sand you want, you need to walk only a few hundred feet to the sandy park next to the condo complex (ocean swimming at the park is for experienced swimmers only.)

D-24 is a recently renovated and fully furnished condo that provides a wonderful place to just sit and relax. From your lanai, watch the surfers during the day and the sunsets at night. You'll also see jet boats, parasailing, and huge cruise ships. During the winter months. you may see whales passing by and it's not unusual to see schools of dolphins. Large turtles are permanent residents in the tide pool area and shoreline.

The Kona Reef is a low-rise oceanfront condo complex located close to the center of Kona. While away from the center of activity, it's an easy 2 block walk from the condo, along the waterfront to shopping and restaurants. Fresh produce, flowers, and macadamia nuts are available at the nearby farmers' market. The Kona Airport is about 8 miles away. Kahalu'u Beach Park, one of the best snorkeling areas in Hawaii, is just a few miles from the condo.

A large oceanfront pool, Jacuzzi, and chaise lounge area makes the Kona Reef a relaxing place to stay. Four gas-fired barbecues provide a great place to cook dinner, which you can eat at the tables and chairs in the barbecue area or take back to your private lanai.

Our condo is fully furnished and stocked with our guests in mind. The bedroom has a brand new king-size bed, tropical furnishings, plenty of storage, and a TV. The newly remodeled kitchen has granite counter tops, a refrigerator with icemaker, a new electric stove, dishwasher and microwave, plenty of cookware (for barbecue or stove), and dishware/silverware for 8. It also has a coffee grinder, a rice cooker, and a blender, as well as a toaster. The living room has comfortable furnishings, including a brand new queen sofa/sleeper. There's a TV with DVD player. A cabinet contains an extensive collection of books, puzzles, and DVDs. You'll also find coolers, a boogie board, and other toys for water play. A sliding glass door covers the full width and height of one wall of the living room. And directly outside that door is the private balcony and the ocean.

Our guests have been delighted with the condo and we think you will be too.

NOTE: If our D-24 condo isn't available for your desired dates or if you'd prefer a first floor condo, please go to VRBO 308090 for information about our Kona Reef D-3 condo.

About Jan

We bought this condo a couple of years ago after owning another condo (D-3) at the Kona Reef for many years. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and try to come for long visits to our condo a couple of times a year. While there, we usually buy some new furnishings or make some other improvement in the condo as we want our guests to enjoy the space as much as we do. We remember what it was like to rent someone else's condo for our vacation and we try to make sure that all the little things (i.e. beach chairs, coolers, etc.) are available for our guests. We also never forget that a trip to Hawaii is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of our guests and we want them to be thrilled with the condo they've selected.

Jan purchased this condo in 2011

Why Jan chose Kona Coast

We bought this condo a couple of years ago after owning another condo (D-3) at the Kona Reef for many years. We were getting requests for reservations that we couldn't accommodate in D-3 because it was already booked. Now that we have D-24, we are able to accommodate more guests, particularly during the busy times.

After visiting each of the Hawaiian Islands, we found that we enjoyed the Big Island the most. The variety of scenery throughout the Island is amazing and we still love to travel over to Hilo side or to the volcano or north to the beautiful beaches in the Waikaloa area. But we were especially drawn to Kona because of the sunny weather and all the ocean activities. We love to snorkel and swim and we've also done some kayaking in the area.

What makes this condo unique

Despite the many visits to our condos at the Kona Reef, we still are amazed when we arrive, go out on the lanai, and find the ocean right there. We don't feel like we have to do much to have a true vacation at our condo; just relaxing on the lanai or by the pool is vacation enough. One of the reasons we wanted to buy at the Kona Reef is because it's so close to the activity of downtown Kona without being in the middle of the noise. As we're walking the 2-3 blocks downtown, we see the car traffic and people having trouble parking and are so glad we don't have to drive and park, which most visitors to Kona have to do. Another thing we like about the Kona Reef is that we've found the other condo owners and the guests to be especially friendly so we enjoy the general atmosphere. And the condo association is constantly making improvements to the complex so we always feel that everything is being well-maintained.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We truly enjoyed our visit to Kona and the condo was fabulous. We spent hours on the lanai enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean. We were a bit disappointed that we never saw any sea turtles basking on the rocks as we had read in other reviews. We still loved the place and also fell in love with the Big Island. We will surely be back.

We had a very nice 3 weeks in this condo. The location to both on the beach and a short walk into Kona were great. Everything you could possibly need are in this condo. The pool and BBQ areas were a big plus.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay in Jan's condo. It was all we expected and so much more. The condo was well appointed and had everything we needed to enjoy the island! I truly felt at home in her condo and treated it like it was my own. We cooked most evenings and always had everything we needed. Previous guests had left some spices and seasonings and even a bottle of almost full olive oil. We didn't shop the day we arrived so we were able to inventory what we might need. It was awesome. We paid it forward and left some spices and popcorn that we had left for the next guest, in addition to some rum!

The view! All I can say is AMAZING! We sat and watched the surfers for hours every morning and evening. This was why I rented this condo and it didn't dissapoint! The complex is very clean and everyone we encountered was very nice. It was fun bbqing in the evening and chatting with the other guests and residents. It was also a very quiet complex which we really enjoyed.

Kona Reef is walking distance to the shops and eateries and running along Alli Drive was great. I was able to run for miles along the ocean.

Oh and great tips in the snorkel book Jan left in the condo. Make sure you check it out! We found some great beaches and snorkel sites out of this book.

Our stay was an absolute joy. Being ocean front and close to all the amenities that Kona Reef and Kailua have to offer makes this condo great. Jan is wonderful to work with. We will be staying here again.

Fabulous Views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 6 nights in September 2015. The condo was very clean and well stocked....We only cooked breakfast in the unit a few time but we had plenty of plastic wear for the pool, beach towels and chairs for the beach. Condo was nicely stocked with everything you could need. Had very nice linens...The thing we loved most was just sitting on the lanai the view was amazing......So thankful for the AC it kept the unit nice and cool and they also had two ceiling fans and a portable fan....it was extremely hot. Locals said hottest it had ever been. I would stay here again in a heart beat. Beautiful unit, thank you for sharing it with us....Will be back.....

Great condo, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 8 nights in this excellent, well-equipped, super clean and nicely decorated condo. Off the lanai, the view of the ocean and the spectacular nightly sunset was exactly what we wanted. We saw spinner dolphins several times in the morning and there were usually people surfing or body boarding or SUP boarding. We watched lots of outrigger canoes go by. One morning a huge cruise shipped had sailed in overnight and stayed all day. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to prepare meals though we only made coffee and breakfast. The laundry is equipped with detergent and dryer sheets for the large stacked washer and dryer and there is a full size iron and board. There is a full size hair dryer in the bathroom and small hotel-type toiletries. There are plenty of bath towels and beach towels and extra sheets and pillows. The condo has a wall AC unit but we only needed it once for a brief time. The rest of the time we just kept open the lanai doors and ran the ceiling fans. There is also a stand-up oscillating fan which we used overnight in the bedroom.

The screen door at the front door gives nice cross-ventilation.

The condo is a great "base camp" for everything we did --- we had a rental car (and there is covered parking available on-site) so easily visited half a dozen different beaches for snorkeling and swimming. The airport is only about 8 miles to the north. Hawaii volcanoes national park is a 2 hour drive to the south and you'll pass South Point along the way --- must see!! (The road there is paved all the way now). We took the tour up Mauna Kea -- about 1 1/2 hours away and drove to the NE side of the island to hike in the Pololu Valley area -- about 1 1/2 hours away. There are easily a dozen places to eat a 5-10 minute walk away. Grocery store and drug store a 10 minute drive from the condo.

We saw the pool area and grilling area and they looked super nice but we didn't use them. The beach area is small but nice right next door, but we were told by locals that the current is very strong there so we didn't swim it - didn't want to be shredded by the coral or lava. The entire place is very quiet as a whole. The only noise was the crashing surf right outside our lanai and we loved it. We highly recommend this condo and Jan the owner is extremely nice and helpful!

2nd time in Kona

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at your condo. Two other couples were also vacationing with us in the same complex, so it made it nice for barbequing together. This was our second time to Kona, and it was just a great as the first. Watching the whales and dolphins every day was the most enjoyable, and being able to walk downtown to all of the shops and restaurants was very convenient.
