Spend your relaxing beach getaway in our recently remodeled and updated 2 bedroom, 1 bath property on the water in San Diego's unique beach community of Ocean Beach. This lovely space includes a private, completely fenced back yard with patio and gas grill, off-street covered parking ,private secure WiFi, and quick Dog Beach access. There is never an extra charge for pets!
For your comfort and protection, ALL linens (sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads, zippered pillow covers, bedspreads, throws and throw rugs) are clean and fresh for each new guest. This is much higher than the industry standard, but do you want your kids and pets on anything less?
This beautiful apartment begins with a cozy living room just off your carport. It features cushy chairs with ottomans, an electric fireplace/heater, and a 32' flat screen TV with DVD player and ATT Uverse HDTV plus DVR. The hope chest contains beach towels and there are beach bags and hats for your use by the back door so you can grab them on your way to the beach!
Down the hall is the larger of the 2 bedrooms with a queen sized bed, 21' flat screen TV with DVR access and a large closet complete with an assortment of fresh robes and slippers. There are extra blankets/pillows in closet.
Further down the hall is the apartment's spa bathroom complete with tub/rain shower, vanity space for 2 and a
fabulous glass pedestal sink. The shower is lined in slate style ceramic tile trimmed in slate and limestone and the vanity area and back splash are glass mosaic tile. There are plenty of fluffy towels to pamper you and a powerful hair dryer.
The metal dining table sits under a casual nickel chandelier and seats 6. The adjacent lounge has a small couch, lounge chair and a wicker rocker, and another flat screen TV with DVR access. This area can seat 6 comfortably. Also in this open area is a brand new kitchen with glass doored cupboards, a very deep stainless steel sink (for bathing small dogs and children?) and new stainless range and refrigerator. The countertops are Italian porcelain tile. There is also a pull-out pantry, as well as dishes, glasses and crystal stemware for at least 8 people.
The smaller bedroom houses adult extra-long bunk beds along with a built in desk and another closet complete with fresh robes and slippers. Its window looks out onto the patio and back yard. There are also 2 twin air beds with linens.
Walk out the back door and you will find a covered patio and landscaped 'beachy' back yard covered by shade sails and decorated with old surfboards. There is an outdoor lounge area with comfy Adirondack chairs. The back gate opens onto a paved path, the San Diego River estuary (a wetlands sanctuary for birds such as blue herons, snowy egrets, pelicans and osprey) and then the beaches. The beach on the left is for people and the beach on the right is a unique off-leash area for dogs to run, swim and socialize!
All beds have Select Comfort Sleep Number mattresses (queen with dual controls) so you can adjust the firmness to any degree and as often as you like. These mattresses can also be dry cleaned as necessary. The pillows are encased in hypoallergenic covers that are washed after each use.
The simple, tasteful decor features original works by local painters and sculptors. The dog-proof, kid-proof floors are concrete which has been stained and sealed and are textured to be slip-resistant. The throw rugs are washed after every use. To help circulate the ocean breezes, there are ceiling fans in every area of the apartment.
We are long-time Ocean Beach residents, having raised our children here. We are semi-retired and enjoy an active lifestyle with participation in local events and culture.Ask us about local restaurants!
Brita Ferm purchased this condo in 1995
Staying in our property for a weekend or 6 months, lets you have the bona fide beach lifestyle. It is super clean and comfy, practically kid- and dog-proof, and has the best neighbors in OB...us!
Bird sanctuary just beyond your back gate, steps to Dog Beach and other wide sandy beaches, top notch restaurants, and a small town atmosphere greet you in one of Southern California's few remaining authentic beach communities. This location and the potential to remodel into living quarters both practical and cozy are what sold us on our property. We hope you'll agree!
Brita's property is very clean and well stocked. She made check in/out very easy.
We had a BBQ, went to the beach daily, and only had to drive (maybe 10 minutes) to spend an afternoon in Old Town. If you're a runner, walker, cyclist, etc you will appreciate the location a bit more. Perfect family vacation spot!!
We spent the last 2 months in Ocean Beach at Richard and Brita's lovely downstairs apartment that backs up to Dog Beach. Our dog loves the beach and it took all of a 5 minute walk to get to the ocean front or the San Diego river portion of Dog Beach. Brita and Richard are great owners. You wouldn't know they live above the apartment except on rare occasions when you meet them in the parking space. If you need anything at all, Brita is just a text away and truly "johnny on the spot". We loved the apartment and location. Due to the constant rain this winter, we didn't get to experience the beautiful back yard as much as we would have liked, but it sure made getting to Dog Beach easy. We were a bit disappointed to hear that the apartment was already rented for next year, but I am sure the people staying there will enjoy it as much as we did.
I would highly recommend this location. Very clean and pleasant, wonderful owners.
I cant say enough about this cozy and practical gem by by the beach. The accommodations were perfect for our family and dogs. I love the ability to access the path and dog beach out the back gate. Even though we had 2 dogs and three kids, my husband and I felt as though we had our own space with having the two separate living rooms. The kitchen was fully equipped and we were able to prepare many meals to save money on eating out. I especially enjoyed the cement flooring. I didn't have to worry about getting sand everywhere as it was easy to sweep up.
Brita was a gracious host and check in was a breeze. The decor is very "beachy" and I really enjoyed all of the original artwork created by Brita herself, I would recommend this rental to anyone looking to get away from it all and especially to those who have children and pets. We are already planning our trip back to San Diego and we will definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay at Brita"s property. The dogs really had a great time playing at the dog park. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful little beach house.
Brita's appartment was the perfect place for our stay during a conference in San Diego. Brita made our arrival easy and welcomed us to her comfortbale place. As we were just 2 people, the appartment was incredibly huge so we had to invite all our friends over for one evening to make use of the space. :-) Having breakfast in the morning sun outside iin the cute backyard is absolutely amazing! The beach is just behind a fence. In spite of all scepticism, getting downtown using public transport was no problem at all. To sum up, Brita's place is amazing for a relaxed stay in San Diego! We defintely can recommend it to everyone!
We enjoyed our stay, including our Dog Bodhi who didn't have any problem wearing himself out on the beach. The back yard is very nice with comfortable seating and a nice grill. Our timing was good and we had mostly very nice weather with a reasonably comfortable water temperature for swimming and surfing.
The bathroom and kitchen areas were nicely remodeled and very functional.
On the downside the parking spot was very tight, although I did manage to squeeze my Tundra into it so it is fine for an average car. Also, the living room furniture wasn't very comfortable, but the idea of being at the beach is to get outside so it wasn't a big deal.
You should also know that much of OB is in the direct line of the airport traffic so you do have to put up with some serious jet noise. The neighbors path does go straight by the master bedroom, which also added to the noise at night. We do live on 2 acres in the mountains so admittedly are used to a very quiet environment.
Overall though we had a very enjoyable time and had a nice visit.
