Overview

Utah Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Gorgeous Cabin, Beautifully Furnished. Great Location!

This light-filled and airy cabin, Red Pines Lodge, radiates hospitality and comfort, and is the essence of 'roughing it in style'. The cabin is situated in a beautiful forest of tall Ponderosa pines, firs, and aspens, just 1.5 miles from the heart of Duck Creek Village. Outside you’ll appreciate the rustic log construction, and plenty of parking. The enormous wrap-around covered deck features a gas grill, dining for 6, and seating for all to enjoy the cool breezes, glimpses of the Pink Cliffs, or morning coffee while watching the sun rise. In the evening, sit around the backyard firepit on log benches, and make s'mores and memories under the stars.

Inside, you’ll love the striking tongue and groove knotty pine walls throughout the house, as well as the columns and railings made from native aspen. Cathedral windows bathe the Great Room in light. Here you can enjoy a cozy fire in the woodstove that sits on its stone hearth, while you relax with a book, TV, or surround-sound music. Also on the Main Level you’ll find the outsized and well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, and a gas range for the gourmet cook; the Dining area with seating for 6-8; a pretty guest bedroom with a queen bed and private door onto the deck; and a full bath.

On the upper level is a beautiful loft area overlooking the Great Room, and featuring a computer work center ready for you to enjoy the high-speed wireless (throughout the house). Also on the upper level is the huge Master Suite, with its en suite bath including a tiled jetted tub, and a separate shower.

On the lower level is a large and comfy Family Room with tv and lots of seating, and access to the outside patio area. Also on this lower level is the third bedroom (the Buckaroo Room) with two twin beds; a full bath; and the laundry room with washer and dryer.

This cabin can sleep 8 people, using the two queen bedrooms, two twin beds, the queen sofa sleeper in the Great Room. Two additional are possible using a comfortable queen-size inflatable bed that can go anywhere (although we recommend this for children rather than adults). Any occupancy over 8, however, must be approved by the owner prior to rental. Absolutely maximum occupancy is 10, including all children. With three full baths, one on each level of the cabin, there is plenty of access for all. Red Pines Lodge is perfect for a family gathering or a group of friends.

The cabin sits on a level, forested lot, with easy year-round access. National Forest land is only a couple of hundred yards away, and ATV and snowmobile trails are right at hand. Hiking, fishing, biking, skiing, and a myriad of other outdoor activities are all in close proximity as well. Duck Creek and the surrounding area are truly a natural outdoor paradise.

Please note: The cabin has an 10 person maximum, including children and infants, unless approved by owner. A per person charge may apply. We do not rent to “house parties” or unruly groups. We welcome those who will respect our cabin, and the natural environment of Cedar Mountain. If you are looking for a cabin for a smaller number of people, please ask us about Cedar Hollow, our log cabin in Strawberry Valley that accommodates 4-6 people.

Further Details - And Things to Do: Hiking, bicycling, fishing, hunting, ATV fun, snowmobiling, skiing, and horseback riding are just a few of the activities in the area. Aspen Mirror Lake and Duck Creek Pond, popular fishing spots for all ages, are just outside Duck Creek Village and within minutes of the cabin. Navajo Lake, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Brian Head Ski and Summer Resort, and Lake Panguitch are all a short drive away. The many marvels of Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Monument are each less than 45 minutes away. And only a little further away are such amazing spots as The Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (about 2 hours to the North Rim Lodge and Bright Angel), and Capital Reef National Park. For antique shopping and theater, visit Cedar City (30 mile drive), renowned for its annual Utah Shakespeare Festival in summer and early fall, held on the lovely campus of Southern Utah University.

Places to Go: Duck Creek Village is 1.5 miles to the west of the cabin. Distances from Duck Creek Village to: Aspen Mirror Lake 1/4 mile; Brian Head 23 miles; Bryce Canyon NP 42 miles; Zion Natl Park 45 miles; Cascade Falls 4 miles; Cedar Breaks NM 15 miles; Cedar City / I-15 29 miles; Escalante-Grand Staircase NM (Cannonville entrance) 57 miles; Highway 89, 8 miles; Kanab 49 miles; Las Vegas 198 miles; Mammoth Cave 5.5 miles; Navajo Lake 7.5 miles; Panguitch Lake 32 miles

Just ask us about things to do and places to see in the area. We enjoy being your 'tour guide', and we keep lots of guide books and information in the cabin for your use. Welcome to Duck Creek, and welcome to Red Pines Lodge!

About Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners

We live near San Diego, California, but we love this area and will never tire of exploring it. And there is no end to the wonders available to explore! This photo of the owners was taken as we hiked in one of hundreds of slot canyons in Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument, east of Bryce Canyon.

Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners chose Utah

We have visited and enjoyed many of our nation's parks and wilderness areas. We think Southern Utah is one of the most spectacular areas in the country, with an array of what are some of the most beautiful and accessible national parks and monuments. We have been coming to the area for several years, drawn by the beauty and wide variety of outdoor activities. Five years ago, we finally decided we needed to own a little piece of this incredible place. That was such a good purchase that in 2013 we bought this cabin, our second cabin in Duck Creek, with an eye to living here some day. With breathtaking natural wonders any way you drive, all within close proximity, you can't beat this location. Red Pines Lodge is in a great location, near the Village, and with easy access. It's a beautifully built cabin, has the amenities that make it comfortable, yet it has that rustic, warm feeling we enjoy in a cabin - and think others will too. We love both our cabins - both are welcoming, wonderful places. If you love nature and experiencing the outdoors, as we do, you will be amazed at this part of southern Utah. If you love the feeling of being in a beautiful cabin in the forest, then you will love Red Pines Lodge.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the majesty and beauty of Southern Utah so much that we purchased Red Pines Lodge, our second cabin property in Duck Creek. We also own Cedar Hollow log cabin (also listed on Homeaway/VRBO), in the Strawberry Valley area. It has a special place in our hearts. Most of all, we love sharing this special area with others! We enjoy extending hospitality, sharing our vacation cabins, sharing our knowledge of the area and it's attractions, and making all who stay at our cabins feel welcome and at home. That's our philosophy: to ensure that our guests are comfortable, and welcome, and have a memorable experience. Our brand of hospitality is what makes a stay in either of our cabins unique.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a WONDERFUL stay in this beautiful cabin. Thanks for all your advice on good places to go. We saw Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Red Canyon,Cedar Breaks, and Cascade Falls. So much more to see, as well. None of us want to leave!

Beautiful, clean, quiet!

  • 5 of 5

Wow!!! What a great house!!! It’s just as beautiful as the pictures! I rented this house with 5 other friends. We spent a week there on a mountain biking/hiking vacation. The location was perfect; on a quiet tree-lined road and just a 3 minute drive to Duck Creek Village. Two of our cars were hatchbacks; I am happy to say we had no trouble driving up the road to the house.

The owners Jan & Jim provided us with a wealth of information on the area. Where to buy groceries, places to eat, places to hike. I called them several times leading up to the trip and once while up there in the house. All my phone calls were either answered right away or returned within 30 minutes.

Most nights we cooked in the house. The kitchen has beautiful granite countertops and beautiful new appliances. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook several meals. There were even plastic containers that we could pack lunch in and take on our adventures.

In the evenings we relaxed in the great room and watched DVD’s that we brought from home.

The bedrooms were decorated really nice and the entire home was spotlessly clean. I would definitely rent this home again or recommend it to anyone.

Delightful place!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin exceeded all our expectations! From the log fire to the comfy beds the whole experience has been a delight. It's very welcoming as you walk in the door. The cabin is spacious and well appointed. We enjoyed a well earned respite after our daily exploration of Zion and Bryce National Parks.

Jan was super helpful and provided tips about grocery shopping, hiking and dining. We enjoyed the hikes and our lunch at The Lodge in Zion. Our family members from England said they would definitely recommend this cabin for anyone heading this way. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!

Owner's Response: Thank you, May, for such a lovely and helpful review. We really enjoyed having you and your family from the UK as our guests at Red Pines cabin. And I'm especially glad you found my "travel tips" helpful, and that you really enjoyed the Parks and other delights in the area. I hope you'll be able to join us here again sometime - you all are welcome back any time!

This placed has it all - great location, cabin and owners!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect for our needs - two couples, teenager and granddad. We arrived in the snow and loved that the steps had warmers that kept ice from forming. The neighborhood was plowed before everyone had even gotten out of bed in the morning. We greatly appreciated the owner having the driveway plowed too! The owners called to make sure we knew the best route to take in the snow. The kitchen was well-stocked with anything you might need. We cooked several meals and used the grill one evening. The cabin was very clean and comfortable.

The cabin was also centrally located for us. We flew into Las Vegas and went by Hoover Dam, Seligman, AZ (Rte 66) and the Grand Canyon on our way to the cabin. We used Duck Creek as home base to explore Zion Nation Park, Bryce Canyon and Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ. If going through Page, definitely stop at the Wahweap Overlook. Beautiful view! My husband and I would like to come back when we can spend more time hiking. Each park had 1/2mile trails that my dad (82, limited mobility) could do. Definitely book Antelope Canyon tours ahead of time. We had to show up in the morning and come back several hours later for the tour. We enjoyed every restaurant we tried: Oscar's Cafe in Springdale (outside Zion), Strombolli's in Page, AZ and Cafe Adobe in Hatch (on way home from Bryce Canyon). We also stopped in for coffee at the hardware store in Duck Creek. They were very freindly and helpful.

Owner's Response: I'm so happy to hear that your trip to our cabin, and this lovely area, turned out so well. And even the big late season snow didn't cause you any problems - that's wonderful news - but you still got to experience a taste of our early spring "winter weather". As I tell guests, any kind of weather is possible in the Spring on our mountain! I know your Dad was probably thrilled to be able to fulfill his "bucket list" ambitions by seeing the parks and sites here. I hope you and your husband do indeed get to return here for more hiking and exploring. We'd love to welcome you - all of you - back any time! Thanks for being terrific guests, and for the nice review!

Beautiful house in gorgeous part of the country!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five stayed here in June and found the house to be beautiful and the surrounding area to be breathtaking! The house was well-equipped and spacious enough for us all to spread out and rest after all our adventures! We used it as home base to see Cedar Breaks National Monument, Zion Canyon (LOVED the Canyon Overlook trail and the Narrows trail), Bryce Canyon (the horseback ride is another must-do), and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We also squeezed in a visit to Hoover Dam on our way to Duck Creek. The trip was unforgettable and I am finally getting a chance to put together a photo book of all our amazing pictures, so I realized I had to post a review about this beautiful property! Jan was such a helpful owner and we appreciate the opportunity we had to stay in her wonderful home! We would love to stay again!

Beautiful and centrally located

  • 5 of 5

A total of 7 of us stayed in this house, and used it as "headquarters" for day trips to the nearby national parks. The house was amazing--stocked with everything we needed (and didn't even know we needed!) and wanted, and provided a quiet environment to plan our adventures, watch the wildlife, and just breathe. We went to Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and Cedar Breaks National Monument. We also explored Panguitch and Kanab (best restaurant: The Rocking V Café!). We did a lot of our own research, but also used the house owner's massive amount of vital information to plan our trips. The house was centrally located between Bryce and Zion, with a little further drive for the Grand Canyon. We bought an annual park pass, as we knew that would be the most cost efficient.

The owner had such pertinent information that we used to plan our adventures, but was also kind enough to call us when a mud slide could have potentially interfered with our way to the house. She obviously is attentive to details, and wants her guests to make the most of their visits.

We would definitely recommend this house to others, and would also make a return trip.
