Stayed 02/14/17 - 02/21/17 and had a fabulous week

Ground Transportation:

The roads are narrow and drive on the left side. It's takes a confident driver to negotiate the road. There are open air taxis that are available for just $1 ($2 to airport) to get around the island. A gentleman that stays the winter doesn't have a vehicle and uses taxis for all local transportation.

Check-in:

The office didn’t have our keys but there was a door keypad allowed entry. The safe was locked and it took a day to get it open. Office provides beach towels and can be exchanged daily.

Unit:

The unit was clean and newly remodeled but dark due to décor. Speakers provided have the old iPhone port so it was useless to us (bring adapter). The unit provided snorkel equipment, etc. The full kitchen was great for cooking meals and bed was comfortable.

Sapphire Beach:

The best part was the beachfront location just steps from the water. Beautiful white sand beach is not crowded with waters-edge spots readily available. Unit had two lounge chairs in front but we used the complex's lounge chairs that are complimentary but must be checked-out. Sapphire Bay Bar is next door and has great food & drinks. However, cruise ship tours make it crowded on Tuesday and VERY crowded on Wednesday. Snorkeling is good but not great.

Pool:

The pool is small but clean with a few lounge chairs that are reserved early in the day. There is a 270 degree view of the ocean and St. John.

Restaurants in Redhook:

• Fish Tails Bar & Grill: Great food and service.

• XO Bistro: Excellent food and service but expensive.

Grocery Stores:

• Food Center: A few miles before getting to Redhook with a good selection.

• Moe's Fresh Market: In Redhook with a smaller selection.

Tours:

Booked New Horizon Charters (NewHorizonsCharters.com) departed from Sapphire Resort Marina. Visited The Baths at Virgin Gorda, Diamond Reef (snorkeling), Marina Cay (lunch) but storms forced rerouting from Jost Van Dyke (Soggy Dollar Bar) to Norman Island (Pirates Pub). Jeff, Brad & Sean were great.

Beaches:

Both are part of the National Parks System with showers & bathroom. Food & drink available. Costs are per person:

• Megans Bay: Mile long beach with calm waters. $5 fee & $8 chair.

• Truck Bay (St. John): Great snorkeling and incredible sand & scenery. $14 ferry (round trip), $6 taxi, $5 fee & $8 chair.

Highly recommend Sapphire Beach Condo Resort. The owners, Cristin & Beatrice Buiciuc, were attentive and quickly responded to our questions.

Beautiful Location

  • 3 of 5

We loved the location of this condo and it is true that it does have almost everything we needed. There was snorkel gear and noodles and the kitchen was well supplied and the bed was very comfortable. What we did not have was adequate towels in the bathroom or the kitchen. We were staying for 4 nights and had declined a mid term cleaning since we were only going to be there for 4 nights and didn't feel it was needed. What we did not expect is that we would be left one towel/hand towel/washrag for each of us for the entire 4 days and one dishtowel and no dishrag in the kitchen. My husband sent an email the day after we arrived and never heard anything. Thank goodness we were able to get new beach towels each day and were able to get an extra as we needed that to sop up the water that came out of the shower door because it did not close properly. We did not report this issue as it clearly was not something that was new and should have been addressed before we even arrived. There was also a very strong smell of mildew. There were a couple buckets of damp rid in the condo but the smell was overwhelming to me. My husband didn't even notice it so it depends on how sensitive your nose is. The pool was nice but the area around it was clearly needing work and once that is done it would be a nice area. We were able to get chairs each day for the beach and it was a very beautiful view. I would go back to Sapphire Beach but would not stay at this condo again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I do have to respond to the negative remarks you made to make you understand you are actually misunderstand the whole situation: - the shower situation is fixed for a long time now, what you don't know is that the salt that is in the air (since is a place by the ocean) eats through everything including the seal on the shower glass doors which we replace constantly every few months; - there is NO MILDEW at all, NO SMELL of mildew too! I can't believe you're trying to inspire yourself from a situation that happened almost a whole year ago... Since we have replaced the whole AC unit we did not have any problems at all. We were in St. Thomas two weeks after your staying and no signs of anything you say, we had guests as well who can testify to that too! Do not be mean intended because you wanted extra dish rags or towels. You did have enough towels for four days; fresh towels and bed sheets are provided with a fee for cleaning service. We don't believe in dish rags when is about to be shared among so many different people, I don't think it's hygienic, that's why we offer Bounty paper rolls and one roll of Bounty for four days should be enough. On top of that we do offer free daily beach towels as well. Since we were there two weeks after you, we did replace the seal for shower door again. - you also said that you found a couple of buckets of damp rid... Well, owners do place in their personal closets this product DampRid which is a moisture absorber so our belonging will be fresh by the time we get back, and my husband decided to leave one on top of the high kitchen cabinets ( not in your sight, not in your way) which helps with absorbing the moisture. Believe me, you don't understand these things like how the moisture and the salt affects your home until you actually own one on the beach. It takes continue maintenance to each item. I do not understand how this item could be in your way when we left it high up on top of kitchen cabinets ( which again, was replaced when we were there). There is no way to please everybody, but we're trying always to offer a calm and relaxing vacation to our clients. We're sad that you didn't find it a place you could return, but maybe it's better this way/ in this manner you'll get to experience other places at Sapphire and then you'll learn that the experience you had with us was actually a good one that you should have appreciated better at the right time.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Just sitting here looking at my pics from our trip, wishing I was back again! We had a great stay and our condo was awesome. Having the beach as your backyard is incredible.

The condo is very nice and has everything you need to enjoy your visit. We loved having the blender for our own frozen drinks. We made good use of the kitchen and it was well supplied. The bed was very comfy, I slept like a dream which is unusual.

Will def be back in the spring. Thanks again.

Location is perfect.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in St Thomas. The location of the condo is perfect. We loved being able to step out the door onto our patio and right on to the beach. The beach is great and the snorkeling right there was awesome. The condo came with enough snorkeling gear for all four of us. (Three adults and one teenager) You also have access to beach chairs and floats and a volleyball net right there on the beach. We spent several of our days visiting St John and the British Virginia Islands. Sapphire Beach is a great location for this. It is located on the east end of the island right next to Red Hook, which is where you catch the ferries to the other islands. There is also a grocery store and many restaurants in Red Hook. Plus there is a marina right there on the property which is where one of our excursions to the BVIs was based. (New Horizon and Breakaway Charters does a great excursion to the BVIs) So we literally just walked out our door across the lot and to the marina.

The condo has been updated, it is nice and very clean. The four of us slept comfortably. The owner, Beatrice, was very helpful and replied quickly to the questions we had before we went and anything we needed while we were there. The only issue we had during our stay was that the internet went out the day before we left. I contacted the person I was supposed to for this issue and did not hear back from him, but we left early the next day and I understand that it was taken care of that day.

If we were to go back to St Thomas we would definitely stay in this condo again.

Fantastic studio

  • 5 of 5

This condo is updated and well taken care of, it walked straight out to the beach. She had snorkeling gear and floaters available, we could see the attendant for beach chairs, and clean beach towels daily. We would definitely go back. Not much amenities at the resort, pool, snack shop and a dive shop next door. We had everything we needed. Thank you it was fabulous.
