About Paula Knauft

Paula and Robert live in Laguna Beach, California and enjoy good food and wine. We travel extensively ourselves and enjoy experiencing new places including the unique wines and food of the location.

Paula Knauft purchased this house in 2011

Why Paula Knauft chose Willamette Valley Oregon

For several years we looked for a second home in the wine country. Finally we found the ideal location our Maison Vigneronne - vineyard home. Now we have a place to stay when we visit our daughter and grandkids and a place to share with others who enjoy the beauty of Oregon and the fine wine and food produced there.

What makes this house unique

We love the beauty and serenity of our home and gardens. We are surrounded by nature and active vineyards. Most times of the year we can forage something from the land: herbs, walnuts, cherries, berries, apples, pears and much more.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Each sunrise was a joy and the mist rising every morning reminded us of Brigadoon. Loved the roses and the wines - especially Stoller (a new one for us). Great food at the Dundee Bistro and La Rambla in McMinnville. Hope to be back again - and again.

Great house with wonderful views!!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better location to visit the beautiful Willamette Valley! The house sits in a great spot and feels like you are in your own world up there but still close to everything. The house itself was great. It really does have everything you need and the owners were great to work with! We were very comfortable and I would stay here again as well as definitely recommend to others. It was just my husband and myself for 3 nights (6 nights in the area but 3 nights at this property) and we were in and out a lot so we didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked taking advantage of this great property. We really would have liked to enjoy the great fire pit and the beautiful area at the top of the hill, but we did spend time in the evenings and in the mornings on the deck taking in the beautiful views! As far as location, it really is right in the middle of everywhere you want to go especially if you are there as we were to visit the awesome wineries in the area. We have been to Napa many times but I have to say the Willamette Valley is just as beautiful, maybe even more so. We spent one day at Cannon Beach on the coast - a drive I highly recommend (eat at the Wayfarer!) - and another day driving to the Columbia River Gorge and the beautiful falls. Wow there really is no bad or boring drive in the state, just more beautiful scenery everywhere you go. Area restaurants we liked, Babica Hen, for breakfast and lunch especially. Ruddick/Wood Grill, Jory at the Allison Inn and Tina's. Red Hills Market is great for sandwiches and snacks- we stopped in there a lot! Oh the wineries - Some favorites -Archery Summit, Domaine Serene, Sotor, Lange, Alexana and a little further away towards Salem I recommend Illahe, Cristom and St. Innocent. While in this area I highly suggest, if you are a cheese lover, a visit to the Willamette Valley Cheese Co. You can taste everything before you buy -and the list is long. Crazy good. We froze what we bought, packed it in our suitcases the morning of the flight and by the time we got home everything was still good and cold to go back in the fridge. Such a wonderful trip, we can't wait to visit again! Thank you Robert and Paula for sharing your beautiful home!

Great house (minus some adjacent construction)

  • 5 of 5

First, the owners are great. Sent all the info we needed in the days before check-in. Followed up upon check-in and just before check-out as well.

House is nice. The yard and grounds are fantastic.

The only complaint - and by no means the fault of the owners - is construction on what appears to be a new house across the street. Made the morning coffee on the deck not quite as quiet as we had hoped.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Unfortunately our neighbors are remodeling, the framing is just about complete, which will quiet things down in the future.

Great views and location

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time to Oregon wine county and we were pleasantly surprised by the magnificent location of this lovely home. Our hosts provided multiple recommendations for local wine tastings, site seeing, things to do, etc. This home is centrally located to at least a dozen wonderful wineries and has views that go on forever! The hot tub was perfect after a long day and the home was well-appointed with all you could ask for in a home away from home. The wood-burning fireplace was romantic and fit the bill on the cool nights, while the wood-burning fire pit outside provided warmth and stars in the sky we so desperately needed. A day at the coast and a day hiking the Columbia River Gorge proved to put our love of Oregon over the edge -- as if the delicious wine alone didn't do that! At least 5 wine clubs later, food we fell in love with...and we are hooked. Thank you, Paula and Robert, for such a wonderful oasis.

Wine Country Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Not only near all the best wineries but situated in the their vineyards! Warm and immaculate with everything to make a wonderful escape. The kitchen has all the tools to enjoy meals at home with pretty china and glassware. The linens and towels are fresh and fluffy like you would experience in a hotel. You can take a picnic to a winery with the cooler or relax by the fireplace with abundant wood. The restaurants in the area take pride in their ingredients and presentation. A great place to relax and have fun!

Super convenient, well maintained home

  • 5 of 5

This is a very well maintained, centrally located home for wine touring. The home has beautifully views - and on a clear day, you can see Mt. Hood. We watched several beautiful sunrises! The property is well manicured, and has an excellent fire pit area to enjoy each others company while sipping on wine. The owners are very responsive and check in at the beginning of your stay to ensure everything is satisfactory. We found this well suited for two couples. Living room seating area is somewhat limited, so larger groups may not have adequate space indoors if weather is inclement. The house is isolated (no neighbors; adjacent house was in the process of being renovated, but, no work was being done during our stay) - so, it's very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed day trips to the coast (about 2 hours away) and the gorge area (about 1.5 hours away). The rest of the time, we spent visiting many of the conveniently located wineries.
