3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath Villa In Eat, Prey, Love Country (Sleeps 8)
About Joanne Woodward
We are a British couple, based in China for the last 10 years before relocating to Singapore in 2014, who spent a long time looking for the perfect rural retreat with rice terrace, jungle and mountain views to escape the concrete jungle and non stop pace of Shanghai! Having found Villa Abadi we now regularly spend quality time away from the frenetic pace of life in Asian cities and find real pleasure in our new found passion of identifying projects to improve Villa Abadi to not only increase the quality of the experience for ourselves, but also that of our guests.
Joanne Woodward purchased this Villa in 2011
Why Joanne Woodward chose Tabanan Sub-District
Bali is an easy sell as a holiday destination with its tropical weather and fantastic surf and beaches, but all too many visitors only get to experience the 'tourist trail' Bali that has grown up around the popular locations of Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Sanur, Kuta etc. Villa Abadi is only 20 minutes from Canggu but is in a different world, set in a small rural village on the edge of rice terraces, jungle and with views to Batukeru, Bali's 2nd highest mountain, in the distance. Ubud is just 20km away yet the villa is still less than 10 minutes from deserted paradise beaches. For the more adventurous, the much quieter Western part of the island, much of which is National Park, becomes much more accessible as do trips to the center and North coast of the island.
What makes this Villa unique
Ideal for those looking to relax in a rural tropical location where the traffic noises of the main tourist hubs are replaced by crowing roosters, bird song and the occasional village festival and the views of villa compound walls by working rice terraces, jungle, mountains and local village scenes. It is also a great base from which to explore greater Bali including central areas such as Bedugal and the north coast as well as the very quiet western parts of the island. With a variety of great dining options within 20 minutes of the villa and a similar trip time back to the bustle of Seminyaks bars & beaches we believe Villa Abadi offers the best of both worlds.

Lovely villa, but you'll need a car!
We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Abadi. Its a really beautiful villa, with lovely Balian style grounds, and a great pool (which our kids loved). Locally there are are a couple of street vendors selling sate, and bakso ayam (chicken ball soup), and there's two small warungs (local style restaurant). There's a lovely beach which you can walk to from the villa, which took me 40 minutes at a brisk stroll. You'll need to hire a car (or scooter, if you dare), or use the local drivers recommended by the owners (which we did) as the location is a little isolated from other towns and beaches. The communication from the owner, Joanne was second to none both before and during the holiday. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Hi Gary, thank you very much for your kind review. We’re delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Part of Villa Abadi’s attraction is its rural setting, but to get the most out of its location having access to transport options is definitely recommended & we’re always happy to assist in arranging. With kindest regards, Joanne
What Vacation is All About!
This villa is absolutely beautiful! My boyfriend and I came to Bali for the first time, and this place was perfect. My boyfriend is a Dive Master, so it was a bit out of the way for lots of diving....but this villa was so relaxing and stunning that it was worth the commute! The villa staff was so sweet and accommodating. We took advantage of the private chef who made us some delicious meals! We also paid for the private driver, which we recommend if you want to explore without having to personally brave the crazy Bali traffic! Rafael the driver was super helpful and shared lots of stories and gave us a nice insight into Balinese culture. We had massages right by the pool 3 separate times because they were so relaxing. Can’t beat the price! We absolutely fell in love with this villa and Bali and are already planning on making it an annual destination. The people here are so kind and it made us never want to leave! Joanne, the owner, was absolutely amazing at helping us book our stay and answering our questions. One night there was a tiny power issue, and she was quick to email me and give us a bottle of wine for our troubles. She went above and beyond! Stay here, you won’t regret it! :)
Hi Susie, wow, thank you so much for your amazing review of your stay at Villa Abadi! It really does mean so much to us when our guests enjoy the villa as much as we do. We hope that you will visit Bali again in the future and come and see us again! With kindest regards, Joanne
Beautiful Location in Bali Countryside
Beautiful Villa in lovely countryside location. Local people friendly. Some grocery shops and local eateries within walking distance. Nice pool - good temperature - in pretty garden with sun loungers. Large gazebo for shade and outside dinning. Wifi excellent. Photo's of villa are accurate.
A car is useful and google maps gives accurate travel times, however, if you want to just sit and soak up ambience then local drivers are available.
Hi Jenny, thank you so much for your kind review. We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Abadi. With kind regards, Joanne
Great value Villa with Luxury hotel feel
Beautiful villa, in a countryside setting but still accessible to Tanah Lot, Seminyak and Ubud. What I loved most were the views over the rice fields from the pool, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms which all have a luxury hotel feel, and the gallery looking down on the lounge area. Staff were lovely too. It’s great value for money. If I were looking for any negatives, I guess I would say it’s probably not particularly toddler friendly.
Hi Karin, thank you very much for your kind review. We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Abadi and look forward to welcoming you back if you return to Bali in the future. The views from the balcony, bedrooms and garden played a very large part in sealing the deal when we were looking to buy Villa Abadi 6 years ago! With kind regards, Joanne
An oasis of tranquility.
The villa is beautifully situated amongst lush rice terraces with the friendly local village at the end of the of the lane.
The villa and the guests are tended to by delightful staff for who nothing is too much effort. Beautifully furnished and equipited to the very highest of standard the Villa Abadi makes you wish the holiday would never end.
From booking the private Chef to cook a Favourite meal or a local delicacy to having a treatment whilst gazing at the pool, all your needs and wishes are catered for simply with a phone call. Villa Abadi met and exceeded every expectation and I will certainly return.
Thank you very much for your kind words & review! We're glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

The villa is located in a small traditional Balinese village approximately 40 minutes drive from Denpasar airport, in the heart of eat, pray, love country.
The villa is located on a small hill in the rural traditional Balinese village of Bengkel. The village has a few small local shops (where you can buy fresh eggs and basic provisions), rice and small hold farming and some cottage industries such as clay roof tile manufacturing from clay and coconut husks. The villa is set back over 100m from the road accessible by a private driveway and is located on the edge of rice terraces on 3 sides with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and jungle to the mountains in the distance. The location is very natural and the villa is not overlooked at all.
There is private parking and a car and driver can be arranged at a very reasonable cost.
There is a lovely secluded beach within 5 minutes drive and the world famous Echo Beach is 10km from the villa. Seminyak can be reached in 20 minutes and Kuta and Sanur slightly longer.
Dining options within 20 minutes of the villa include Joshua's, just 5 mins from the villa, serving a great variety of local & international dishes, with awesome sunset views. Other options include Finns (ex Canggu club), Soori resort, Nirwana Pan Pacific resort (including Bali's top golf course) as well as an array of local restaurants. Alternatively, pour a glass of wine, relax on the balcony watching the sun go down and let the villa chef create some amazing local and international cuisine!
