About Serah

Hi, I'm mother of 4, jewelry designer and store owner.

The apartment I purchased originally for my own use when I come to visit my family in the Netherlands. Traveling with a family of 6, hotels are not an option for me. So I really tried to make this place as comfortable as can be. It is very well equipped, including washer & dryer, which I myself find very handy when traveling with kids.

Serah purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Serah chose Rotterdam

Location & Comfort!!

Close to everything!!

Market, shops, entertainment, tourist attractions & public transport.

Modern & well insulated building.

Parking spot available too!

What makes this apartment unique

Waking up in the morning, sipping my coffee and watching the market being set up twice a week right in front, but without hearing a sound, is what made me fall in live with the place.

Fantastic location in great city

  • 5 of 5

We loved Rotterdam! There was so much to do and see! This apartment was ideally located in the central square, with a great view of the market. It was very comfortable for the five of us and easy to get everywhere. Highly recommended!

First class accomodation in a superb location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is close enough to the city centre/ shops/ attractions/ museums to make most attractions within walking distance, but at the same time quiet and away from the traffic. Public transport links are excellent and the apartment looks directly onto Laurenskirk. Nearby restaurants and cafes are all excellent.

Needless to say, the apartment was spotless and the owners went out of their way to be helpful. I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Average apartment without air conditioning

  • 3 of 5

Having been in Rotterdam three times now, this apartment's location is close to almost everything you may need. The Markthal has manifold eateries, a grocery store, a drugstore, and a wine shop. The nearby pedestrian area offers alternate eating choices and many shopping choices. Most of the downtown area is within walking distance to this apartment, and there is a train station and tram station within 100 meters.

Having praised the location, the apartment itself could use some updating. The dining table and coffee table, made from wood, showed signs of use. There was 2 chairs and 1 sofa in the living room, neither of which were very comfortable. For a large family, some would be forced to sit at the dining table. The lighting in the main rooms was solely from suspended lights; there were no floor lamps to assist with reading. The bed mattresses were satisfactory, but the pillows were flat and needed to be replaced. The bathroom was updated and nice. Also, the Internet was too slow, especially when the tv was on, which uses the bandwidth and makes surfing slower than E service. Forget streaming a video.

When we arrived, there were dirty dishes in the sink, and the towels had not finished washing and drying, which we, as guests, had to complete prior to showering. There was also an open package of frozen chicken in the freezer, which should have been thrown away prior to our arrival. There was also garbage in the garbage can, which should have been emptied prior to our arrival, and the stove was filthy with crumbs.

The main issue we had with the apartment was the absence of air conditioning. There is solely heating from the floor. Each room has its own heating control, but in order to get fresh air, one is forced to open the screenless windows. The apartment receives direct afternoon sun, which the shades only partially block the heat. Having stayed during a warm week (25+ degrees Celsius), even with the heat at the lowest level, the apartment was constantly hot. There were no fans in the apartment. Opening the windows only provided relief after 10pm, once the sun had set. If you're lucky, a breeze will blow through the windows to circulate the air. While this might be ok for the winter months, it's not for the summer season.

Future guests should also be aware of the markets that set up Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays directly in front of the building beginning at 4am. I advise leaving the windows closed if you want to sleep.

Rotterdam beauty

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is sunny and airy and in a great location. The apartment is well appointed with everything you need to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. Perfect for 2 but easily suitable for 4. Walking out the front door , you will find the most amazing food market which is just fun to walk around and take it all in. The famous Cube Houses are only a couple of hundred meters away and are a sight to see. Rotterdams modern architecture along the river front are all within easy walking distance. And the metro station couldn't be any closer. There are a number of great restaurants across the plaza as well. Communication with Sereh couldn't have been any easier, and Ben was at the apartment to welcome you in.

Don't miss this Rotterdam gem, you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic, convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Perfect location - steps away from the new Markthal, Rotterdam Blaak train/metro station and lots of fantastic restaurants and cafes. The apartment was clean and comfortable, with anything we could have needed and lots of space. Another reviewer commented on the setup noise from the weekend market and I have to agree. That is the ONLY reason I'm not giving 5 stars. (Breakdown is in the afternoon, so not an issue.) I am a light sleeper so that made it tough for me in the morning, however noise did not bother anyone else in my family. With the apartment overlooking the market, it's fascinating to see the empty square come to life from your window. I would recommend anyone stay here, but bring earplugs if a light sleeper. :)

Owner's Response: The apartment really has a fantastic location. The triple glassing keeps the all the noise out, but yes, when they are open, you will hear the sounds of the market being set up. Most of the year the weather in the Netherlands does not require open windows at night, but sure, this August we had a few very sunny days! I very much enjoy watching the market come alive...

Wonderful apartment, great location!

  • 4 of 5

This was the perfect apartment for our stay in Rotterdam! Nice and roomy for three adults and very comfortable. The owners were wonderful with which to work! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Very convenient to transportation and shopping.

Our only real concern was the noise. setting up and tearing down the market is a very long noisy process. Also, the elevator smelled like garbage due to its proximity to refuse room.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay on this apartment and would rewind it highly!
