About The Owner

Mike and Annette have resided in Medford for 40 years. Mike was raised in the Klamath Basin so developed a love for hunting and fishing.

The Owner purchased this house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Oregon

When the opportunity arose to purchase a “piece of paradise” in Fort Klamath, Mike felt like he was returning home. Coupled with Annette’s interest in renovating old houses, the property, with it’s panoramic view of the Cascade range and Crater Lake Rim, was perfect for offering lodging to visitors coming into the area.

What makes this house unique

Since the property is fairly new to us, Annette is still enjoying the renovation and redecoration of the house itself. When Mike isn't helping with renovation, he slips away to enjoy the natural setting and plan future hunting and fishing trips.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The place is so comfortable, homey and exceptionally clean. Really appreciated.

We had a great time in the park and lovely stay here.

Great Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our 3 nights at this property! It was convenient to Crater Lake and is located in a great setting with wonderful sunsets! Mike and Annette were very friendly and Mike built a fire every night. We forgot marshmallows for s'mores and Annette gave us a bag our first night there. They have fixed up the house very nice. Our son slept on the sofa bed and the mattress was very comfortable! The stairs are steep and narrow going upstairs, but there is a railing and automatic lights, so it wasn't bad. If we're back in the area, we would want to stay here again!

This house was fantastic. Had everything we needed and we loved the view of the countryside. There's a nice little picnic table outside to eat at. Its very close to Crater Lake so we loved that. The owners were very helpful!

Picture perfect setting near Crater Lake

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Mazama house for one night in June while visiting Crater Lake. The house itself is very clean and is as shown with a queen size bed downstairs and 2 twin beds upstairs. The owners are very gracious hosts and we loved the bonfire at night. We had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend this to others. The location is beautiful!

Cute and Close

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 2 nights in August, and used it as our Crater Lake National Park base.

There are 3 rental units on this property, I was able to get a peak of the bigger one of the 3 when we first arrived, before the other guests arrived. Very spacious!.

We stayed in the Mazama house, which is the medium sized rental. The house itself was great, plenty big enough for the 2 of us, or for a family with 2 kids, as there is an attic room with 2 twin beds.. The stairs up are steep, so be careful if you have small children.

There is also a 3rd unit, which is a smaller, but I didn't get the chance to look in that one.

The unit we stayed in was very clean, and had nice touches... washer/dryer in unit, comfy bed, great Kitchen, and although we don't drink coffee, the Keurig would be great for those that do.

On the evenings Mike and Annette, (the owners) had a fire pit that they lit, inviting the guests to join. This was a nice touch, and gave us the opportunity to get to know them a little, plus the are happy to give you any tips and information on the local area.

Annette gave us a great tip about some waterfalls to check out on the drive home.

From the research that I had done on vacation rentals around Crater Lake, I would say this one is one of the closest to the National park itself, (about 20 miles), making it easy to get there and back.

If we decide to come down to Crater Lake again, we would definitely stay here again :)

Excellent family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We only had a few short days to spend in Crater Lake with family from out of town, and I wanted to find a cottage close to the park so that we could maximize our time. This location is in a peaceful rural area and Mike & Annette have done a great job with this property. Clean and with lots of homey touches, this cottage truly fit the bill. Coffee was provided (a big plus for me!) along with access to an outdoor grill, laundry, etc. We loved the bonfire Mike built at sunset and enjoyed s'mores while watching the stars come out. Travel to Crater Lake National Park was only about 23 miles, and we even went in at night to watch the moon rise. Thank you, Mike and Annette, for your hospitality--we hope to see you again in the near future!

vacation stay

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the Mazama House was just wonderful. The house had the basic necessities for meals and was generally as decscribed on the VRBO website. For convenience, definitely be sure to stop for provisions prior to arriving at the house. If you are looking for total privacy, do know that there are other rentals on the property. We were only a short drive from Crater Lake, which was our main destination, and it was so nice to be able to come back to such a peaceful location at the end of our day. Our hosts were very nice...the nightly bonfire is a nice touch and makes it inviting to meet the other guests. We would definitely stay here again if/when we are ever back in the area.
