Welcome to 407 Westbourne located just steps away from the world famous Wind’n’sea Beach in La Jolla California. This charming 2,800 square foot three bedroom three and a half bath single family home with detached casita boasts charming Spanish influenced architecture and is within easy walking distance to the La Jolla Village – home to some of the finest restaurants, shopping and art galleries in all of San Diego.

This private residence is impeccably maintained and has interiors designed by renowned artist and designer, Dana Balaban. Once inside the front gate, you will enjoy a well-landscaped courtyard with a bubbling fountain serving as a focal point and a seating area to soak in the afternoon sun.

The first level of this two story home has floors of stone with a inviting fireplace in the living room opposite two sectional sofas that easily convert into a sleeping area for four complete with Tommy Hilfiger comforters and down pillows.

Moving into the dining room, you will enjoy family meals at a custom, handcrafted table for ten with bench seating and bar area.

The galley style kitchen has the most rare blue and green granite countertops, top of the line stainless steel appliances complete with double oven and warming drawer, and large walk-in pantry behind a custom stained glass door. Just above the pantry is the front gate monitor for your added security. With service for 10, you will enjoy your family meals in this wonderfully comfortable area.

Just off the dining area is the powder room and a few steps further down the hall is the media room. Enjoy watching your favorite surf movie, baseball game or cable show on a huge built in 65-inch rear screen high definition flat projector. Or, plug in the Karaoke machine and host your own AMERICAN IDOL contest. There’s plenty of room for everyone on a custom built sofa that seats ten comfortably.

Upstairs you will find all bamboo wood floors and two large master suites. The front suite, with its Asian influenced décor, has a queen bed, fireplace, separate seating area with futon chair that converts to a bed, two large closets with plenty of drawer space and views of the pacific ocean. The private bathroom has a tub/shower combination and the same blue and green granite as downstairs.

The other master suite is a bit larger and has a white washed, Tommy Bahama feel. With a California king bed, futon lounge that converts to a bed, TV, and large walk-in closet, you will quickly feel at home. The bathroom is finished in gorgeous stone accents with a large fully enclosed shower. The large casement windows overlook private back courtyard and casita.

And therein lies the real beauty of this residence. Enjoy the best of indoor outdoor living in the fantastic rear courtyard complete with palm thatched covers, eating area, configurable seating including a colorful oversized chaise lounge, fire pit, built in BBQ, outdoor shower and spa.

Walk into the two-car garage with enough room for the largest of SUV’s and go for a ride on one of the eight beach cruisers or bogie boards. All the beach toys are there and available to you and there are plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas for you to enjoy your lazy days at the beach. The large front-loading washer and dryer make doing laundry a breeze.

Above the garage is a cozy one-bedroom casita that sleeps three and is appointed with its own kitchenette and bathroom with shower.

This lovely beach home has distributed audio in every room, including the rear courtyard, and is operated by an easy to use hand-held controller from Sonos. You can easily dock your iPod to the system or use one of the built in music sources such as Pandora or Rhapsody. Literally ANY song you wish to hear is at your fingertips. With the controller, it’s simple to adjust the volume in the different rooms and even have separate music playing in each room.

Some additional benefits of this home are central air-conditioning and heat, wireless internet, free unlimited long distance, satellite TV with all the HBO channels, and fax machine and printer.

Perfect Vacation Property!

We cannot say enough good things about our wonderful experience at this beautiful property! The location is ideal - the ocean is at the end of the block. There are several restaurants within walking distance, and downtown Lajolla is only minutes away.

David has the house completely furnished with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We especially enjoyed the private patio area with hot tub, where we could spend evenings relaxing, grilling and visiting with each other. Our group included children ages 10-20, and the house was perfectly equipped for them also. The garage had bikes, which the older ones took to go to Starbucks in the mornings. There were also knee boards, umbrellas and all the other equipment which you would want for fun at the beach.

The furnishings in the home are beautiful, impeccably clean and comfortable. The kitchen and dining areas are spacious and large, allowing the entire group to comfortably dine together or enjoy games in the evening.

We enjoyed going into downtown LaJolla, a very short drive, and visiting all of the shops and restaurants. We especially recommend the locally owned bookstore.

For delicious yet inexpensive dining within walking distance, we recommend Rigoberto's, only a block away. They have terrific breakfast burritos and nachos. It is so close and delicious the kids made numerous visits.

The house had wireless internet, which of course is a must when travelling with kids. It also allowed the adults to keep up with work in a beautiful setting.

As indicated, the ocean is at the end of the block. The beach was never crowded, and the kids and adults alike had a ball. It was a wonderful place to watch gorgeous sunsets!

David is terrific to work with. We will definitely be back!

The house on Westbourne in Lajolla is perfect. The outside welcomes you with a beautiful private courtyard and a fountain. The back is a very large private patio with a grill, comfortable seating, and a large jacuzzi. The inside is lovely with very nice furniture, large televisions, well appointed kitchen, and enough sleeping room for over 12 people if needed. The beach is just at the end of the street, and great restaurants and shopping are nearby. The oner, David, is very helpful. I can't wait to come back

Luxury and Convenience at its Finest

We had an amazing vacation! We have rented several places in the San Diego area and this one has been the best so far. House has been nicely furnished and was able to accommodate our large family with room to spare. Property is within walking distance to the beach and several great bars and restaurants. This will be my first pick for our next trip back!

Very disappointed

Upon arrival we found the AC was not working. Nothing was done to rectify this problem. Since we had to leave the windows open, we were disturbed two nights by drunk people shouting obscenities in front of the house. Next door neighbors were also doing construction and we were awakened at 7:00 am two mornings by jack hammering, which proceeded to last throughout the entire day. While this isn't the fault of the owner, if the AC had been working, the noise could have been reduced by being able to close the windows. The washer stopped working mid-week. A repairman was sent. A part had to be ordered that wouldn't be in for at least a week. Nothing was done to compensate for this either. Cleanliness was not up to our standards: dirty floors, vents, window ledges, stained couch cushions, cupboards and fridge also dirty. Not terrible, but definitely not clean. Cleaning lady showed up unannounced while we were still on the premises. She said she needed to start cleaning for a party that would happen the following day after our checkout. Poor timing! Upon leaving we were asked to leave cash for cleaning lady. We didn't, feeling that we had paid the fee upfront. The owner took it out of the security deposit and did not refund the entire amount. I would not recommend staying in this vacation home and we obviously will not be returning.

Owner's Response: I'd like to respond and set the record straight as it can be very misleading when half truths are presented. Air conditioning was working PERFECTLY once renter reset thermostat per my instructions. Also, as soon as renter informed me that the washing machine had stopped working, I immediately called a repair person who came out the very next day. Turns out there was NOTHING wrong with the washer and I did NOT charge the renter the service fee I had to pay. This renter received my standard one-page rental agreement prior to check-in which clearly talks about leaving cleaning fee in envelope for the maid. Renter also insisted that they were over charged and never received a breakdown of fees they paid thru VRBO. When I referred them back to the line itemed quote they received from VRBO they simply had no response. This renter (they had 4 young children with them) also broke a screen door and never responded to me when I asked them about it. I elected not to charge them for it and refunded all of their security deposit less the cleaning fee that they did not leave upon check out. My home is in one of THE best neighborhoods in La Lolla (WindnSea/Beach Barber Tract ), has a value of over $2mm and is surrounded by multi-million dollar properties. As this is my personal home vs an "investment" property that I simply rent out, I pride myself on the maintenance of my home and fix ANYTHING as soon as I learn about it. My cleaning lady has been with me for 12-years and does a FANTASTIC job! This renter was upset because I withheld the cleaning fee, that they were contractually obligated to (sorry but them not reading the agreement is not an excuse) from their security deposit and in my opinion are being spiteful and less than truthful. I am glad that VRBO now allows owners to leave feedback and rate their renters. Please consider all my reviews prior to making a judgment.
